India Star Faces Brutal Criticism Ahead Of 2nd Test Against England: 'Not Finished Player...'
"I was talking about Thakur there; you've got to get 20 wickets. Thakur is not the finished player around. He's an all-rounder; he's been given enough opportunities. This is one thing that frustrates me. Virat Kohli, a fitness pro regime when he was captain; he led from the front both on and off the field. Thakur has got his opportunities. He's been in and out,' Hogg said on his YouTube channel.
'He's been dropped from IPL teams as well where he has nearly missed out on contracts there. If you really want it, you've got to have that desire. If you don't have the desire, well, you're not gonna make it to the top of your game. That's one thing that frustrates me because there's so much talent, but I just don't think he's looking after his body well enough, making those sacrifices that you need to make… to get the best out of your skills."
And I don't wanna be very hard on him, I've been very hard on him, but he could be a genuine all-rounder in Test cricket. He's got the ability with the bat, ball, but he just lets himself down,' he added.
Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar also said that Kuldeep Yadav should play ahead of Shardul.
'I'm sorry, but Shardul Thakur has to go out. I think Kuldeep Yadav has to come back. I'm sorry to say, but that is one change India will have to make.'

India will have to invest in a player to master the catching part in gully area says Sanjay Bangar
New Delhi [India] July 2 (ANI): Former Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar spoke about the importance of not dropping catches and said dropping chances makes the job of the bowling department much tougher. India dropped several catching opportunities throughout the opening Test against England, which conspired against them during their five-wicket defeat at Headingley. 'It's very important not to drop catches. It makes the job of the bowling department that much more tougher. But here I would say that this is also a fresh step forward for India. And wherever Yashasvi actually fields--basically, gully is a position in cricket which is a very, very specialised position,' JioHotstar expert Sanjay Bangar said while speaking on 'Follow The Blues'. India dropped as many as eight catching opportunities, which tipped the scales in England's favour. The eight dropped chances cost India a whopping 250 runs, a valuable tally that held the power to change the visitors' fate. Yashasvi Jaiswal was the prime offender with four dropped chances, followed by other top fielders. Bangar felt India would have to invest in a particular player to master the catching part in the gully area and praised former Indian skipper Anil Kumble, who did well in gully when he was playing. 'And that's where I think India will have to invest in a particular player to master the catching part in the gully area. I don't really remember too many great players who were consistently staying in the gully area. In my memory, Anil Kumble did that really well for India when he was playing,' he added. Bangar also highlighted the need to prioritise developing a skilled gully fielder, as this area sees a high volume of catches. He believed that the best fielder on the team should be positioned in the gully or in the wider slip cordon, such as the four-slip area. 'Ajinkya Rahane made that spot his own. But after that, there has to be a real focus on developing a good gully fielder. Because that's where a lot of catches go, and it's a position that should actually go to your best fielder. As we say that the point fielder has to be your best fielder. But your best catcher actually has to be slightly wider in the slip cordon--maybe that four-slip area or even the gully region. And that's where a lot of those catches go,' Bangar said. Ben Duckett's fiery 149, Joe Root's composed 53*, and Jamie Smith's swashbuckling 44* fuelled England's hunt to pull off a 371-run target at their favourite playground on Tuesday's final day of the Test. With this win, England go 1-0 up in the five-test match series. The second test between the two sides will be played on July 2 at Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham. (ANI)

IND vs ENG 2nd Test: 'Daftest selection decision' - Social media goes bezerk after Bumrah, Kuldeep and Sai absences
Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav and Sai Sudharsan are not in the squad for the 2nd Test (Image via Getty Images) India have rung in the changes for the second Test against England at Edgbaston, with batter Sai Sudharsan dropped and the exclusion of Kuldeep Yadav stirring debate among fans and pundits alike. England, who lead the five-match series 1-0, won the toss and opted to bowl first on a pitch expected to assist early seam movement. Sudharsan, who scored 0 and then 30 in the first Test at Headingley, has made way as India sought to recalibrate their top order. The 23-year-old's debut outing was underwhelming, and with the pressure of a must-win encounter, the management opted for a reshuffle. Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has also been rested, as part of his workload management. His absence has opened the door for the inclusion of Akash Deep, with Shardul Thakur also making way. The duo's exit has seen Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy included in the XI, bringing in both versatility and fresh energy. However, what has caught the most attention is the continued omission of wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav. Despite conditions that could assist spin later in the match, Kuldeep was once again left out. Fans took to social media expressing disbelief over the call, particularly with the team seeking wicket-taking options on a wearing surface on Day 4 and 5. EXCLUSIVE | David Gower on Shubman Gill, Bumrah & India's England Tour The squad decisions meant that hundreds of reactions poured in, with one tweet reading that India would need '650 and then some magic' to win. Another argued that Sai Sudharsan being dropped was a mistake and that he should have been given more time. Being dropped the very next game after his debut did not sit well with many. Gill explains why Kuldeep isn't part of India XI for Edgbaston Test: 'We were tempted to play Kuldeep but...'
Kuldeep Yadav was widely expected to make India's playing XI for the second Test against England at Edgbaston after the five-wicket defeat at Headingley, only for the visitors to pick Washington Sundar along with NItish Reddy and Akash Deep. Captain Shubman Gill explains why… read more India's decision to make multiple changes to their combination for the second Test against England at Edgbaston was along expected lines, with Jasprit Bumrah widely expected to be rested in order to stay fresh for the third Test at Lord's. Bumrah was indeed rested in the second Test in Birmingham, with the Shubman Gill-led visitors including two all-rounders – Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar – in addition to pacer Akash Deep, picked as Bumrah's replacement. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD There had been plenty of chatter over left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav's inclusion after the five-wicket defeat at Headingley. Gill, however, justified Kuldeep's exclusion by stating that the team needed solidity in the batting department, especially in the lower middle order that had crumbled twice at Headingley. More from First Cricket 'Spoke to players who were part of 2018 series': Shubman Gill reveals strategy behind playing two spinners in Edgbaston Test 'We were tempted to play Kuldeep but looking at the last match, our lower order didn't do well, so decided to add some depth to the batting,' Gill said during the toss, in which his English counterpart Ben Stokes opted to field. Instead, Sundar was included as the second spin-bowling all-rounder along with Ravindra Jadeja; solving India's need for two spinners and extra batting support. To accommodate Sundar however, Karun Nair has had to be shifted to the No 3 spot. B Sai Sudharsan had made his Test debut batting at that position in the first Test, but was benched after getting dismissed for 0 and 30. Reddy, meanwhile, replaced Shardul Thakur, who had been preferred for the series opener due to his bowling skills but failed to impress either with ball or with bat.
