IND vs ENG 2nd Test: 'Daftest selection decision' - Social media goes bezerk after Bumrah, Kuldeep and Sai absences

India have rung in the changes for the second Test against England at Edgbaston, with batter Sai Sudharsan dropped and the exclusion of Kuldeep Yadav stirring debate among fans and pundits alike.
England, who lead the five-match series 1-0, won the toss and opted to bowl first on a pitch expected to assist early seam movement.
Sudharsan, who scored 0 and then 30 in the first Test at Headingley, has made way as India sought to recalibrate their top order. The 23-year-old's debut outing was underwhelming, and with the pressure of a must-win encounter, the management opted for a reshuffle.
Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has also been rested, as part of his workload management.
His absence has opened the door for the inclusion of Akash Deep, with Shardul Thakur also making way. The duo's exit has seen Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy included in the XI, bringing in both versatility and fresh energy.
However, what has caught the most attention is the continued omission of wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav. Despite conditions that could assist spin later in the match, Kuldeep was once again left out.
Fans took to social media expressing disbelief over the call, particularly with the team seeking wicket-taking options on a wearing surface on Day 4 and 5.

The squad decisions meant that hundreds of reactions poured in, with one tweet reading that India would need '650 and then some magic' to win. Another argued that Sai Sudharsan being dropped was a mistake and that he should have been given more time. Being dropped the very next game after his debut did not sit well with many.

Vinnie Pasquantino, Royals salvage split with Mariners

(Photo credit: Steven Bisig-Imagn Images) Vinnie Pasquantino's two-run single broke a tie in the seventh inning as the Kansas City Royals defeated the host Seattle Mariners 3-2 Thursday night to earn a split of a four-game series. Seth Lugo (6-5) pitched 6 1/3 strong innings for the Royals, who won for just the third time in 12 games. The right-hander allowed one run on six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Carlos Estevez got the final four outs for his 24th save of the season despite a harrowing ninth. Dominic Canzone led off with a homer to straightaway center to pull Seattle within a run. Pinch hitter Miles Mastrobuoni blooped a hit to right, and J.P. Crawford lined a one-out single to left, with a wild pitch advancing both runners. Estevez caught Julio Rodriguez looking at a called third strike and got Cal Raleigh, the American League Player of the Month for June, to ground out feebly to second to end the game. Seattle's Jorge Polanco went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a homer leading off the fourth inning that opened the scoring. The Royals trailed 1-0 heading into the seventh before scoring three times. Kyle Isbel and Jonathan India drew one-out walks off reliever Casey Legumina (4-4), who was replaced by Carlos Vargas. Bobby Witt Jr. greeted Vargas with a line-drive single to left-center, knocking in Isbel with the tying run as India advanced to third. Witt stole second, and Pasquantino grounded a single to right against a drawn-in infield to plate two more runs. Mariners starter Logan Evans, recalled from Triple-A Tacoma earlier in the day, pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings. The right-hander allowed three hits, walked one and fanned three. Evans retired the side in order in each of the first three innings before walking India leading off the fourth. After striking out Witt, Evans grazed Pasquantino on the back foot with a pitch and Maikel Garcia grounded a single to left to load the bases. Evans got Salvador Perez to pop out and John Rave to ground out, ending the inning. Evans was replaced after allowing a two-out double to Perez in the sixth, with Legumina issuing a walk before Nick Loftin flied out to right to complete the inning. --Field Level Media

Reds' Brady Singer looks to right ship in first start vs. Kansas City

(Photo credit: Charles LeClaire-Imagn Images) The Cincinnati Reds acquired Brady Singer to provide durability to their pitching staff after being a dependable starter for the Kansas City Royals. Though it's been a stilted start to his Reds' tenure, Singer should be amped for a return to Kansas City when Cincinnati tries for a second straight win over the struggling Royals on Tuesday night. Singer (5-3, 4.88 ERA) spent his first five major-league seasons as a Royal and, while he posted just one winning campaign in Kansas City, he made at least 24 starts in each of the last four. Singer, who was honored for his Royals service with a video tribute in Monday's series opener, set career highs in 2024 for starts (32), innings (179 2/3) and strikeouts (170). All were key factors in the Reds trading talented second baseman Jonathan India -- a college teammate and good friend of Singer -- for the right-hander during the offseason. Coming back to Kansas City this week already has been emotional for Singer, who understands where his focus needs to be. 'I'm still here to do a job,' Singer said. 'Put the emotions on the backburner. Enjoy it ... but (Tuesday) we're going to work to win a game.' As a Red, Singer went 4-1 and posted a 3.24 ERA in his first six starts, but has gone 1-2 with a 7.85 ERA in his four since. Singer allowed four walks and five hits on Wednesday at Pittsburgh in his last outing, but only two runs while grinding out five innings of a 3-1 loss. 'Just trying to battle,' Singer said. 'That's what I've kind of been doing the past couple of outings. Just trying to make pitches. Work through it.' India, the NL Rookie of the Year for Cincinnati in 2021, never achieved the same success over the next four seasons. He is 2-for-5 with a walk against his buddy. 'I don't know how to explain it until I'm in that moment -- him in the red, I'm in the blue,' India told 'All we can do is just be ourselves and push forward.' India is 2-for-21 in the last six contests, with one of those hits coming in Kansas City's 7-4 loss on Monday. The Reds got seven solid innings from Nick Martinez and three hits, including a two-run homer, from Tyler Stephenson to win for the second time in three games after losing three straight. Kansas City's Vinnie Pasquantino had three hits Monday and is batting .425 during a 10-game hitting streak. Teammate Maikel Garcia is batting .381 during his 11-game hitting streak. However, the Royals have been held to fewer than five runs 13 times during their current 5-10 rut. 'We've got to be better than that,' Pasquantino said. The Royals appear set for a bullpen game Tuesday, with Daniel Lynch IV (3-1, 1.57 ERA) getting the ball first according to Kansas City pitchers will again try to contain Cincinnati's TJ Friedl, who has recorded four straight two-hit games. He's batting .419 over his last seven contests. Teammate Austin Hays had a triple with an RBI on Monday and is batting .321 in 29 games this season. The Reds have split their last four games, but totaled 27 runs in the process. 'Very encouraging,' Cincinnati manager Terry Francona said. --Field Level Media
