West Indies cricket bodies to review player safety after harassment allegations

Reuters21-03-2025

March 21 (Reuters) - The West Indies Players' Association and Cricket West Indies said on Friday they would review safety protocols following allegations of sexual harassment during the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in 2020.
"WIPA and CWI will come together to review all aspects of player protection within West Indies cricket. This joint effort reflects our commitment to upholding the highest standards of player welfare and ensuring that all safeguards remain robust and effective," the two bodies said in a joint statement.
The review follows previous measures, including new safety protocols for women's tours introduced in 2021 and the provision of single-room accommodation for the senior women's team on international tours from 2023.
They also highlighted the creation of the CWI Women's Cricket Transformation Committee to further the development of women's cricket.
Both organizations reaffirmed adherence to UNICEF's Child Protection Policy, ensuring that minors are never housed in the same room as adults, and confirmed the continuation of mandatory training for officials to maintain player welfare standards.

Bryan Kohberger accepts plea deal & will admit guilt in murder of 4 Idaho students to swerve death penalty in huge twist

IDAHO murder suspect Bryan Kohberger has reportedly accepted a plea deal in order to avoid the death penalty for the murder of four students in 2022. Victim Kaylee Goncalves' family confirmed the deal offer on Monday night, saying they were "beyond furious." 3 Bryan Kohberger is accused of fatally stabbing four University of Idaho students Credit: Reuters 3 Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin were brutally stabbed to death in 2022 Credit: Instagram/kayleegoncalves 3 A selfie Kohberger allegedly took on November 13, 2022, hours after the murders Credit: AP A letter had been sent to the four victims' familes about the deal on Monday, ABC reported. "It's true!" Goncalves' family said in a Facebook post. "We are beyond furious at the State of Idaho. They have failed us. "Please give us some time. This was very unexpected. We appreciate all your love and support." Kohberger is expected to plead guilty to the brutal killing of the students in their own home in exchange for live in prison, NewsNation first reported. The four consecutive life sentence comes with no possibility of parole and he must reportedly waive his right to appeal, according to ABC. A court hearing over the bombshell u-turn is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, where a judge will decide whether to accept it. Kohberger, 30, was due to go to trial in August for the fatal stabbings of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin in an off-campus home in Moscow, Idaho, on November 13, 2022. Tyson Fury's staggering 9-figure fortune revealed as Gypsy King, 36, banks £195k PER DAY

BOXER Tyson Fury has made £186million, from the sport, accounts show. The Gypsy King turned over a heavyweight profit last year, with his main business banking £71million — £195,000 per day. 2 Tyson Fury has made £186million from boxing accounts show Credit: Reuters The former champ, 36, who has said he wants to make 'as much money as I can until the wheels fall off', recorded a huge turnover at his company Tyson Fury Ltd. The business handles boxing and sponsorship earnings and was worth £186.1million last September. But Fury only paid himself £100,000. The year before he paid himself £150,000. The new accounts show Fury's firm had funds of £162million after settling bills. The firm's turnover included Fury's purse from his fight with Francis Ngannou and split decision defeat to Ukraine's Oleksandr Usyk, 38 in May last year. But the figures do not include Fury's purse from his last fight in December when he was beaten for a second time by Usyk in a Saudi Arabia bout. His fortune is set to soar further if he agrees to a showdown with Anthony Joshua, 35. 2 Fury's main business banked £71million last year Credit: Getty Rare footage re-emerges of 19-year-old Tyson Fury brutally knocking out rival and leaving him in crumpled heap Unlock even more award-winning articles as The Sun launches brand new membership programme - Sun Club.

Emma Raducanu strolls past Brit Mimi Xu, 17, and sets up second round against former Wimbledon champion

Mimi Xu, a South Wales schoolgirl, was sent back to the classroom she lost 6-3 6-3 to the former US Open champion on her debut. Yet Raducanu's supremacy, particularly when it came to serving, saw her advance comfortably to round two and she showed no signs of any back problems that had plagued her summer plans. In fact, the biggest challenge she faced was evading a cork that flew out of a champagne bottle and on to No.1 Court turf. This happened after Raducanu had taken the first set and she comically offered it back to the culprit in the crowd. Champagne tennis from the British No.1 will have to wait for another day but this was an encouraging start to her campaign. It was a sticky 31.7 degrees in south-west London by the time Raducanu began her eleventh singles appearance at Wimbledon. This arena brings back uncomfortable memories as it was here that she suffered an anxiety attack in her debut year in the last 16 against Australian Ajla Tomljanovic. Back then, she was an unknown teenager, thrust into the spotlight of Wimbledon while in the middle of her A Levels. Xu is in a similar situation to the pre-famous Raducanu verison from that early part of 2021. Earlier this month, the Swansea star sat her biology A Level and when she came out of the room, she discovered she had received a All England Club wildcard. The pair both have Chinese parentage – Raducanu speaks to Xu's mum in Mandarin. And Xu is coached by Nigel Sears, who was in Raducanu's box four years ago. They even dress the same, with similar Nike white clothes, golf visor and hair in a ponytail – though Xu had green underwear on – and celebrated key points in identical manner. 3 Wimbledon 2025 LIVE - follow all the latest scores and updates from a thrilling fortnight at SW19 After breaking the Xu serve inside two minutes, Raducanu was instructed by coach Mark Petchey to get her racquet restrung backstage. That break proved decisive as she moved one-nil up after 36 minutes and then dominated the second set to win her fourth match on grass this month. The next match will be against Marketa Vondrousova, the 2023 Wimbledon champion from the Czech Republic, and that will be a far harder proposition. Provided they can both stay clear of champagne corks that is. Post-match, Raducanu said: 'I'm super pleased to have come through that match. It's so difficult playing another Brit in the first round, when the draw came out. 'I can't say I was loving it. Mimi is a really dangerous player. She's so young. Got some amazing weapons at her disposal. 'I am really happy to have come through that and I want to thank everyone for their support on both sides. It was a really nice atmosphere. 'Sometimes it's difficult (to find rhythm) in the moment with nerves and adrenaline, you don't have an idea of what is going on. I think I had some really good patches. 'And some moments where I lost my focus and Mimi was able to come back. 'I'm really happy with how I toughed it out in the really crucial games and won the important points today. 'Well, I'm glad people were having fun today. I mean I saw a champagne cork fly on to the court – glad you guys are having a good time. Cheers to you. 'It's really nice to be back and I just use it as support. I love it. I love playing in this atmosphere. It's my favourite tournament by far. I'm just so happy to get another match here.'
