In a candid conversation on the latest episode of her podcast 'Michelle Obama: The Light Podcast' — co-hosted by her brother Craig Robinson — the former First Lady said that although the decision wasn't easy, it was necessary for her own well-being. During a discussion with actress Taraji P. Henson, Michelle explained that skipping the event was a personal boundary, not a political stunt.
She shared that she intentionally made the choice impossible to walk back by not even preparing an outfit. 'I basically tricked myself,' she said. 'I told my team, 'Don't get me a dress. I don't even want the option.'' Michelle admitted that if she had gotten ready, the pressure to attend might have overtaken her instincts. 'If I had a dress, I probably would've gone and done the 'right' thing,' she said.

The public, however, speculated otherwise. Rumors swirled that her absence was a sign of trouble in her marriage with Barack Obama, who did attend the inauguration. Michelle set the record straight, making it clear that her decision had nothing to do with their relationship. In fact, she emphasized that after everything she's done in service to the country, she shouldn't have to constantly prove her patriotism or perfection.
'If after all I've done, I still have to prove I love this country, that I'm doing the right thing, then all I'm doing is keeping up with that unrealistic bar our mothers and grandmothers had to meet,' Michelle explained.
The 61-year-old author of Becoming said learning to say 'no' has been a major part of her growth, calling it a 'muscle' that she's just now beginning to build. She hopes her decision encourages young women to practice setting boundaries — even when it's uncomfortable or goes against public expectations.

Michelle, who also opted out of President Jimmy Carter's funeral earlier this year, says she's not trying to be a rebel — she's just being true to herself. Sources have noted that she's been quietly stepping away from the political spotlight, choosing instead to live a more intentional and private life outside of Washington, D.C.
As for her marriage, Michelle and Barack are still going strong after 32 years. Despite spending more time apart publicly, she recently shared on another podcast that their bond is unshaken. Barack even joked at a college appearance that he tries to plan fun activities with her to make up for the strain the presidency placed on their relationship.
Michelle and Barack tied the knot in 1992 and share two daughters, Malia, 26, and Sasha, 23, who now live together in Los Angeles.

Charlize Theron takes dig at Bezos wedding while Mia Farrow celebrates his charitable ex-wife
Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos became husband and wife over the weekend with a host of celebrity friends witnessing their vows in Venice, Italy. The Amazon billionaire and former journalist tied the knot in grand fashion, hosting a whirlwind three-day affair complete with a lavish welcome party, wedding and black-tie ceremony on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore. While the newlyweds celebrated overseas with their friends and family, Hollywood stars at home hit back at the nuptials in subtle – and not-so-subtle – ways. Charlize Theron took aim at the Bezos event on Saturday while hosting the fifth annual Block Party for her Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project on the Universal Studios backlot. Before diving into immigration policy issues, the Oscar-winner slammed the Bezos bash and its attendees. "I think we might be the only people who did not get an invite to the Bezos wedding," Theron told the crowd, per The Hollywood Reporter. "But that's OK because they suck, and we're cool." Mia Farrow shared an image of Jeff's ex-wife, MacKenzie Scott, on Jeff's wedding day, and praised the billionaire for her charitable efforts. "How awesome is MacKenzie Scott! (Jeff Bezos first wife & mother of his 4 children)," Farrow captioned a post featuring Scott. "As of mid-December 2024, she had given a total of $19.3 billion to over 1600 charitable organizations." More than 20,000 people "liked" Farrow's post, including a handful of high-profile stars. "Truly incredible," Olivia Munn wrote. Rosanna Arquette commented, "She's a force of humanity and good." Scott, 55, and Jeff, 61, met in 1992 as coworkers and married one year later. The couple announced their separation in January 2019 after 25 years of marriage. "If we had known we would separate after 25 years, we would do it all again," they wrote in a Jan. 9, 2019, post on X (then Twitter). "We've had such a great life together as a married couple, and we also see wonderful futures ahead as parents, friends, partners in ventures and projects, and as individuals pursuing ventures and adventures." Jeff didn't have a prenup with Scott, and the separation left her with a 4% stake in the online shopping giant, or around $36 billion at the time. The former couple have four children together. When the marriage ended, they shared transparent posts about their settlement online. "Grateful to have finished the process of dissolving my marriage with Jeff with support from each other and everyone who reached out to us in kindness, and looking forward to next phase as co-parents and friends," Scott wrote. "Happy to be giving him all of my interests in the Washington Post, Blue Origin, and 75 [percent] of our Amazon stock plus voting control of my shares to support his continued contributions with the teams of these incredible companies. Excited about my own plans. Grateful for the past as I look forward to what comes next." Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos were married Friday, June 27, on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore with a number of celebrities invited to attend their black-tie ceremony. Orlando Bloom, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Tom Brady and Sydney Sweeney were just a few of the A-listers in town for the Amazon founder's wedding.

Donald Trump Spotted Wearing Glasses
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. President Donald Trump was spotted wearing reading glasses in his motorcade over the weekend, a rare sighting of the president who reportedly avoids using them in public. A photographer based in Northern Virginia captured the images and shared them on X, formerly Twitter. According to the photographer, the photos show Trump departing Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia, on Sunday, a day after a round of golf. Why It Matters Trump, 79, who was the oldest president ever elected to a second term, has long been known to be very careful and savvy with his public image. While it isn't uncommon for somebody his age to require glasses, there are few publicly available photos of Trump wearing glasses during his presidency. Sunday's images appear to mark the first such instance during his second term. What To Know President Donald Trump was spotted wearing reading glasses on June 29, 2025, as he departed Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia. President Donald Trump was spotted wearing reading glasses on June 29, 2025, as he departed Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia. Supplied/NorthernVirginiaPoliceCars "President Donald J. Trump departs Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia following a round of golf with CIA Director John Radcliffe and Senators Lindsey Graham, Rand Paul, and Eric Schmitt," professional police, fire, & EMS photographer, Northern Virginia Police Cars, posted on X on Sunday. "POTUS is seen reading the paper in the back of his newer low-profile Suburban." USA Today reported that Trump had played golf with the senators and Radcliffe before a Senate vote to debate the "Big Beautiful Bill." The images show the president wearing his reading glasses, a white shirt, and a cream-colored "Make America Great Again" cap while seated in the back of the Chevrolet Suburban presidential limousine. While it's unclear what he is reading from the photos, the president, according to a New York Times report in November 2019, has refrained from using reading glasses in front of others and rarely writes tweets himself in public. Instead, then White House social media director Dan Scavino would draft and send tweets on Trump's behalf, often enlarging printed drafts to extra-large fonts for the president to review and approve. One single-page article reportedly expanded to six pages once the font was enlarged to suit Trump's preferences. Sunday's sighting marks what appears to be the first time in years—and the first during Trump's second term—that he has been publicly photographed wearing reading glasses. He was also pictured in October 2017 wearing glasses while on his way back from the Trump National Golf Course. Before that, in January 2016, he wore glasses while campaigning in Cedar Falls, Iowa, as he read the lyrics to an song released by Al Wilson called "The Snake." What People Are Saying The images drew attention on social media. Some reactions on X included: "Has ANYONE seen him in glasses before?" "One of the few times I ever saw him with glasses on in public was his first 'The Snake' speech in Jan. 2016. I thought they looked good on him but he probably sees them as a sign of weakness." "GLASSES?!? I've often wondered if he wore one." "Rare glasses form." What Happens Next According to Trump's public schedule, he's due to sign executive orders in the Oval Office Monday afternoon.

Netflix drops major ‘Squid Game' spoiler on social media 72 hours after season 3 debuts — because screw you if you haven't finished it yet, I guess
If you haven't finished, or even started, "Squid Game" season 3, then here's a word of warning: Avoid Netflix's official social media accounts right now. In its infinite wisdom, the streaming service has taken to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to spoil the finale episode of "Squid Game" season 3 around 72 hours after the popular series returned for its final run of six episodes. As somebody who hasn't binge-watched it yet, I'm pretty unhappy. You can see the post in question below (spoiler warning, obviously), and my colleague, who has already polished off the season, informs me that not only is the surprise cameo from Hollywood titan Cate Blanchett part of the final episode, but it's the very last scene of the very last episode! 30, 2025 Considering the show's third (and final) season only debuted last week, on Friday, June 27, this feels like a huge blunder on Netflix's part. I personally haven't had the chance to start watching yet, as I was on vacation last week, and while I live in the real world, so I knew that spoilers could crop up on social media at any moment, I never expected Netflix itself to do the spoiling. I'm sure it would have been a pretty cool reveal to witness unspoiled, but thanks to Netflix's ridiculously rash social media post, I guess I'll never know how I would have reacted to the moment. I probably need to take a 'sick' day now to quickly binge the whole season because the streaming service might just spoil all the major character deaths next. In my opinion, this social media post speaks to Netflix's approach to its content. Watching six episodes in 72 hours isn't exactly an impossible task (assuming you don't, you know, have weekend plans, or other life commitments), and I'm sure many subscribers have finished "Squid Game" season 3 already, but to post a major spoiler just a few days after the premiere suggests the streaming service views its content as completely disposable — something to be consumed as quickly as possible, never savored, or enjoyed over a longer period. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Has this post made me want to skip "Squid Game" season 3? No, I'm a huge fan of the show, and I'm still looking forward to getting started on the finale season (trust me, I'll be watching it sooner rather than later now). But this has left a pretty sour taste in my mouth. I'm shocked Netflix didn't even give me the chance to watch it with fresh eyes before spoiling what I'm sure is one of the season's most memorable (and sure to be most talked about) moments. Let's just say, later in the year when "Stranger Things" final season drops, I'll be either watching it all on release day, or failing that, at least temporarily unfollowing Netflix across social media to avoid having that much-anticipated finale ruined in a similar fashion. Apparently, Netflix does not care if you have other things going on in your life; you must binge its biggest shows in days. And for those who have already watched 'Squid Game' season 3, check out our comprehensive coverage, which dissects the show's most 'emotional chapter' in full detail. Oh, and don't worry, unlike Netflix, we've marked spoilers so you won't have anything ruined if you're still making your way through the show.
