Sandler tees off again: 'Happy Gilmore 2' is equal parts mayhem and moving moments
Image: Netflix.
After decades away from the golf course, iconic actor Adam Sandler is back on the green in the highly anticipated sequel to the 1996 sports comedy classic, "Happy Gilmore".
This time around, Happy (Sandler) is the opposite of what his name suggests.
He's a washed-up, legendary world golf champion who is now an alcoholic. He has liquor stored in canisters shaped as a TV remote control to a cucumber, and even a cellphone.
If you're worried about not having seen the original film, fear not! "Happy Gilmore 2" begins with a recap that perfectly captures the essence of the first movie, making it easy for newcomers to jump right in.
Happy's journey continues as he grapples with the loss of his wife and the challenges of raising five grown children, Gordie, Wayne, Bobby, Terry and Vienna, while trying to make ends meet at a local grocery store.

After vowing never to pick up a golf club again, Happy finds himself in dire financial straits.
He's forced to get back into the profession to rake up $300K so that he can send Vienna to a prominent ballet school in Paris.
Reluctantly, he dusts off his golf clubs, but during his first game, he drinks too much, falls asleep while driving the golf cart and crashes into another.
This gets him fired from his job and in legal trouble.
A jury agrees to remove all charges if he completes an alcohol treatment program and refrains from any physical altercations.
This marks the start of his redemption journey, in which viewers are taken on a rollercoaster ride of emotions.
"Happy Gilmore 2" doesn't simply replicate what made the first a hit, it builds on it.

The film's narrative captures the underdog spirit that made the first movie a hit, and the introduction of fresh faces, including the young pro, played by Bad Bunny, ties in perfectly.
With cheeky callbacks to iconic lines like "Go to your happy place", the film pays homage to the original while paving its own way.
Sandler delivers a hole-in-one performance that feels authentic and relatable, reminding us why we fell in love with his character in the first place.
The laughs are plentiful, the stakes feel real, and above all, the soul of the film is undeniably uplifting.
Sequels often struggle to live up to the original, but "Happy Gilmore 2" does and, while doing so, brilliantly explores themes of redemption, family and resilience.

Coco speaks out on her fallout with Nozipho Ntshangase
Former The Mommy Club star Nozipho Ntshangase's stepdaughter, Coco, is trending after dropping explosive details about her strained relationship with her. Coco left tongues wagging after taking to Instagram to post a selfie with her new stepmother, Misokuhle. The 25 year old recently married her father, Zola Ntshangase in a stunning traditional and white wedding. On The Mommy Club , Nozipho opened up about how deeply hurt she was by Zola's decision to take a second wife. She shared that she didn't support the idea of a polygamous marriage and chose to walk away. Coco's post sparked harsh criticism from former Real Housewives of Durban (RHOD) star Ameigh Thompson, who appeared to suggest that you can't change a child you didn't birth. The remark didn't sit well with Coco, who has since released a statement addressing Thompson's comments. She further opened up about her complex relationship with her stepmother. Coco shared that she moved in with Nozipho in 2023, but their dynamic has since changed. 'Regarding my relationship with Mama (Nozipho), things have changed. The last time we spoke was when I told her I'll be attending the wedding, and after that, there was silence.' Coco stated their father didn't suddenly decide to marry again but they were misled, but now they know the truth. She hinted that certain details were hidden and implied that the whole story is not yet public knowledge. She believes that one day, her brothers will also speak out and share their side of the story. Coco said attending her father's wedding to Misokuhle was entirely their decision; no one forced them. She said they chose to attend the wedding because they genuinely wanted to support their father. 'We went because we love our father deeply and genuinely wanted to support hmi, during this time. It wasn't about choosing sides, it was about showing love to our parents, simply,' she said. DO YOU THINK COCO WAS WRONG FOR SHARING THE SELFIE? Lupita Nyong'o shares her journey with uterine fibroids and advocates for awareness
Lupita Nyong'o opens up about her struggles with fibroids. Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o took to Instagram to share her deeply personal struggle with uterine fibroids, revealing she underwent surgery in 2014 to remove 30 benign growths. She aims to spark a much-needed conversation about a condition that is common yet often unspoken. The 42-year-old Black Panther star hopes it will resonate with anyone who has felt "dismissed, confused or alone". Nyong'o first discovered she had uterine fibroids in 2014, the same year she won the Oscar Award for Best Supporting Actress for her debut film, 12 Years a Slave. In the post, she explains that fibroids are non-cancerous tumours that develop in or on the uterus, capable of causing debilitating symptoms such as heavy and prolonged periods, pelvic pain, and bladder issues. Nyong'o herself experienced painful periods, which she, like many women, initially believed were "simply part of being a woman".
