Iraqi PM presses US to honor security pact amid regional tensions
Shafaq News/ Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has sent a formal reminder to the United States urging adherence to the bilateral security agreement between Baghdad and Washington, a senior source revealed on Tuesday.
The source told Shafaq News that al-Sudani delivered a message to the US State Department through Iraq's Foreign Ministry, reaffirming Iraq's expectation that the security pact be "honored," particularly in light of escalating regional tensions.
'Participants in the latest meeting of the Iran-aligned Coordination Framework, which included al-Sudani, reached a unanimous consensus that the United States must uphold the terms of the agreement.'
Notably, the security partnership between Iraq and the United States is grounded in key agreements, particularly the 2008 Strategic Framework Agreement (SFA) and the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA), which govern military collaboration and troop presence.

Ukraine targets Russian Su-34 jets in rare long-range strike
Shafaq News – Kyiv/ Moscow Ukraine struck four Russian Su-34 fighter-bombers at Marinovka airbase in southwestern Russia over the weekend, in one of Kyiv's deepest reported air attacks since the start of the war. The airbase, located near Volgograd and roughly 900 kilometers from Ukrainian-held territory, was targeted in a long-range operation confirmed by Ukraine's armed forces. Kyiv did not specify the weapon system used. Ukraine's air force also reported it intercepted 359 out of 363 drones and six of eight missiles launched during an overnight Russian barrage, underscoring the continuing intensity of aerial combat between the two sides. Israel says senior Hamas commander killed in Gaza strike
Shafaq News – Gaza The Israeli military announced on Friday that it had killed Mohammad Issa Al-Issa, a senior commander in Hamas's military wing, during an airstrike in Gaza City. In a joint statement, the Israel Army and the Shin Bet described Al-Issa as one of Hamas's founding members and a central figure in the group's military leadership. He was said to have served as the head of combat and logistical support operations within the organization. Israeli authorities stated that Al-Issa had previously led Hamas's force-building programs in Gaza, headed the group's military training command, and was a member of its General Military Council. He was also reportedly involved in planning and executing the October 7 attacks, which resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Israeli civilians and soldiers. According to the statement, Al-Issa continued to operate in a senior capacity during the current conflict, promoting what it described as 'terror plans from air and sea' targeting both Israeli civilians and troops.
