Martha Stewart questions Meghan Markle's lifestyle brand's authenticity

Express Tribune3 days ago
Martha Stewart has voiced skepticism about Meghan Markle's new lifestyle brand, As Ever, questioning the Duchess of Sussex's expertise in the space. In a recent interview with Yahoo Lifestyle, the 83-year-old media mogul and domestic icon commented on Markle's entry into the wellness industry, saying, 'Meghan I don't really know very well, and I hope she knows what she's talking about.'
Stewart emphasized the importance of authenticity in the lifestyle business, stating, 'Authenticity, to me, is everything, and to be authentic and knowledgeable about your subject matter is extremely important.'
While Stewart's remarks about Markle were restrained, she expressed strong admiration for another actress-turned-entrepreneur, Gwyneth Paltrow. Speaking about Paltrow's Goop brand, Stewart said, 'Gwyneth has been very successful; she created quite an interesting body of businesses,' and added that the Oscar winner is 'pretty powerful' and 'admired.'
Stewart noted she doesn't mind having successors in the lifestyle industry and wished them 'good luck,' though her comments hinted at a higher standard for credibility and expertise.
Markle, who transitioned from acting to royalty and later entrepreneurship after stepping back from royal duties in 2020 with husband Prince Harry, launched As Ever earlier this year. The brand sells products such as rosé, teas, honey, cookie and crêpe mixes, and fruit spreads. She also stars in the Netflix series With Love, Meghan, which has been renewed for a second season despite mixed reviews.
Markle's apricot fruit spread has drawn criticism from industry professionals, including Donna Collins of Jelly Queens. 'It's a real disappointment,' Collins said, arguing that a spread 'is what you make when your jam fails.' She added that the product's quality suggests 'whoever is making [Markle's] spread doesn't know what they are doing.'

Kim Kardashian's latest SKIMS product, the Seamless Sculpt Face Wrap, has gone viral — and even attracted the attention of legendary actor Sir Anthony Hopkins. I'm already feeling 10 years younger,' before mimicking Lecter's signature slurping noise. He captioned the post with a playful warning: 'Don't be afraid to come over for dinner.' Netflix explores 'KPop Demon Hunters' sequels, live-action remake and spin-offs after record success

Netflix is reportedly planning an expansive future for KPop Demon Hunters, following its status as the platform's most-watched original animated film to date. According to The Wrap, the streaming service is in discussions to develop two sequels, aiming to establish a complete trilogy. Released in June 2025, the animated film follows Kpop girl group HUNTR/X as they battle supernatural threats while maintaining their pop stardom. Since its debut, the characters and their music have become global hits, with the fictional group and their in-universe rivals, the Saja Boys, gaining real-world popularity. Beyond sequels, Netflix is also considering a television series, a short film, a live stage musical, and a live-action adaptation. The platform reportedly views the film as its own version of Disney's Frozen, suggesting ambitions for a multimedia franchise. Merchandise sales have already surged, and the film is regarded as an early contender for the Best Animated Feature Oscar in 2026. While the co-directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans have not yet confirmed involvement in any follow-ups, Kang noted in a previous interview with ScreenRant that there are "a lot of pockets that we can explore," hinting at further storylines not fully addressed in the first film. Despite the live-action remake being somewhat at odds with Netflix's praise of the original as an 'original animation – not a sequel, not a live-action remake,' the commercial success of similar projects may be influencing the platform's direction.
