Olaplex's new shampoo and conditioner gave my hair 'instant volume'
Now, less than three months since the launch of Olaplex's No.0.5 scalp longevity treatment (£41, Sephora.co.uk), the brand has treated us to two more 2025 releases designed for fine hair. The new drops are variations on the existing No. 4 and 5 shampoo and conditioner (£56 for both, Cultbeauty.co.uk), swapping heavier conditioning ingredients like amodimethicone (a type of silicone) for lighter alternatives such as behentrimonium chloride (derived from rapeseed).
I wanted to see how this change, alongside more than 50 other ingredient modifications, impacted the feel and appearance of fine hair. As one of the first people to get my hands on the new fine bond maintenance formulas (£30 each, Olaplex.com), I did just that. Scroll on for my first impressions after several weeks of hair washing.
How I tested
After receiving Olaplex's new formulas, I immediately got to work using the fine hair-specific shampoo and conditioner. I solely used these products on wash days for several weeks and made sure to rinse and repeat at the shampoo stage. As I do in my usual conditioning routine, I then left the No. 5 fine bond maintenance conditioner on my hair for two to three minutes to do its thing while combing through any tangles in the shower. I then rinsed and blow-dried as normal.

Asia's 50 Best Bars 2025: Six bars in Singapore make it on the 51-100 list
It's that time of the year again: Asia's 50 Best Bars 2025 is drawing near, and ahead of the top 50 announcement ceremony on July 15, the academy has first released its usual extended 51-100 list last evening. This year, Singapore sweeps the charts again with six of our bars making the extended ranking. We may be two short of last year, but the good news is that we're still the city with the most bars on the list. In particular, we celebrate a fresh face: Side Door steps straight into the spotlight with an impressive debut at No. 53. Tucked away inconspicuously along Neil Road, Side Door is the brainchild of acclaimed bartender Bannie Kang (anyone remember her Bartender's Bartender win in 2021?) and chef Tryson Quek. The cosy space fuses Bannie's clean, minimalist cocktails with thoughtful small plates – and evidently, the judges noticed. It's not the best day for everyone else on the list, with some major tumbles from last year's top 50 rankings. Following closely behind Side Door is Sago House at No. 56, slipping from last year's 15th place on the main list. Pause the panic though – the gritty, graffiti-splashed dive bar is still a long-time favourite for its fuss-free drinks and relentless charm. There's also Origin Bar (No. 60) which placed at No. 32 last year, known for its transportative, travel-themed menu. Night Hawk (No. 77) also takes a hit – it ranked at 16th place last year – but the bar is still making waves with its cinematic speakeasy concept and excellent drinks. Rounding off the list for Singapore: OG stalwart Employees Only (No. 89) slips off its 38th place from last year, and Fura (No. 95 this year, No. 42 in 2024) bags the final spot for Singapore with its planet-friendly cocktails and bar bites. This year's extended list spans 23 cities in Asia and 14 new entries, reflecting the region's dynamic cocktail landscape. The main Asia's 50 Best Bars 2025 list will be revealed live in Macau on July 15, marking the first time the awards touch down in the city. Fingers crossed that we'll see even more Singapore bars make the final cut, especially after a particularly stellar performance last year. A HAIRDRESSER has revealed the three things clients do that give her the "ick" - and eye contact is a major issue. Danielle said: "I thought it'd be fun to share my top three client icks because I'm a hairdresser and I have been for like 18 years. "This is light hearted, it's just a little bit fun." First up, she poked fun at clients with "floppy necks" - including her own mum. She explained: "Every hairdresser has experienced this. Doesn't matter how lightly you put your comb or your brush on your client's head, they just lose all strength in their neck. I don't know why. FYI, my mum is one of them." Next, Danielle revealed that clients running late can be an ick if they finally arrive with a specific item. "When a client arrives late with a takeout coffee, you guys are bold", she laughed. "When I was younger, that used to p*** me off, but see now, I love it. Cause I'm like, you don't give a f***. "You're like, 'yeah I'm late, dare you to ask me where I was'. And I do not." And the hair expert has pleaded with clients to stop doing the final ick on her list which she insists that hairdressers find "creepy AF". I'm a hairdresser & it's controversial but I hate the Dyson Airwrap - a £20 buy is just as good… Olaplex is rubbish too She said: "When you are lying in the basin, you don't have to shut your eyes, but what you do not do is like lean all the way back and stare at us. "Like don't, don't make eye contact. When you're in the basin, we do not appreciate eye contact. "Don't know what it is, but it's like, just, it's intense. Relax, close your eyes, zen out for a few minutes, but do not stare at us." Other hairdressers immediately flooded Danielle's comments with their thoughts on her list. "Number 1 is 100% the worst", one insisted. A second added: "When they come in with the take away coffee! Like babe if your gona be late at least bring me a coffee!!" "Haha the basin one I would never", added a third. A fourth wrote: "Omg the floppy neck gets me every time and the basin stare." A fifth cried: "The basin eyeball, cannae cope with it!!! Always worry I have visible snotters on show. Actually had a client tell me one day that 'I had a bat in the cave'," Meanwhile, a sixth echoed: "Ahhhhhh don't stare at meeeeeee hahahahah it's the worst isn't it." Danielle earlier revealed the big mistake people make when washing their hair - and it could be wrecking your locks. She said: "If you shampoo the ends of your hair, you are doing it wrong. "Shampoo is for cleaning your scalp and roots of your hair. "Shampooing the ends can cause tangling and possible breakage." She also revealed the three shampoo brands she swears by that she always recommends to customers. As well as in-salon hair services, Danielle offers online tutorials to help her fellow hairdressers perfect their colouring skills - in particular, bleaching and balayage.
