Ford is the champion of champions
Published on: Wednesday, July 23, 2025 Published on: Wed, Jul 23, 2025 By: Lorena Binisol Text Size: The Sabah contingent at the national championship in Melaka. Kota Kinabalu: Sabah athlete Michael Ford, 36, secured the coveted title of 'Champion of Champions' (Right Arm) at the 2025 National Arm Wrestling Championship, held last weekend at Aeon Mall, Melaka. His victory brought national pride to Sabah and reaffirmed his status as one of Malaysia's top arm wrestlers. Ford's triumph followed his international success earlier this year, where he clinched the super heavyweight title at the prestigious Arnold Classic Arm Wrestling Championship in the United States last February. His performance in Melaka further solidified his legacy, showcasing the skill and consistency that had earned him global recognition. The event was organised by the Malaysia Arm Wrestling Federation, with hosting duties by the Melaka State Arm Wrestling Association. Sabah sent a strong delegation of 41 participants, including officials, competing across various age and weight categories. The team's medal tally was impressive with 25 golds, 18 silvers and 10 bronzes. With a total of 53 medals, Sabah emerged as one of the most successful teams in the championship, earning the title of overall winner. Ford shared that this year's prize included cash awards and trophies. 'What's interesting about the Right Hand Overall Finals is that champions from eight senior categories compete for the national title and out of those eight, four were Sabahans,' he said proudly. Overwhelmed with emotion, Ford expressed deep gratitude to his teammates, family and friends for their continuous support throughout his journey. Meanwhile, Sarawak also delivered a commendable performance securing 7 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze medals. Looking ahead, Ford is set to compete in Denver, Colorado on August 15, representing Malaysia on yet another prestigious international stage. 'I've been officially invited to compete in Denver this August. It's a great opportunity to raise the Malaysian flag on an elite global platform,' he said. To make the trip possible, Ford is seeking sponsorship or assistance from fellow Malaysians or corporate bodies to help cover his expenses which include flight tickets (RM8,000), accommodation (RM8,500), and meals, transportation and entry fee (RM4,000). For further information, Ford can be contacted at 016-8806757. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
