Telangana farmers, buyers await Rs 120 cr refunds; Dharani delays drag on for 3 years; legal action likely
HYDERABAD: Even as the Telangana govt claims to have addressed several glitches in the Dharani land registration portal, a major problem remains unresolved: Refunds for cancelled slot bookings.
Thousands of farmers and property buyers are still waiting for their money-an estimated 120 crore-to be returned for transactions that never went through. This is confirmed by official sources themselves.

Take the case of Jakkula Sugunavathi from Medchal district. She booked a slot on Dharani in May 2022 to purchase four acres of land and paid 8.4 lakh towards stamp duty and registration charges. However, she had to cancel the transaction a month later, in June 2022, due to unforeseen reasons.
Despite multiple follow-ups over three years, Sugunavathi did not receive a refund. Left with no option, she finally approached the high court, which recently directed the govt to refund the 8.4 lakh within a month.
"As per the rules, if the slot is cancelled within six months, the district collector is responsible for processing the refund. After six months, it is the duty of the inspector general and commissioner of the registration department," Gummi Rajkumar Reddy, a lawyer and social activist, told TOI.

Rajkumar Reddy, who sought information from the chief commissioner of land administration through an RTI application, said, "Since the launch of the Dharani portal in 2020, refunds were issued in only two cases, and both came after court intervention."
The Congress govt, after coming to power, replaced the previous BRS regime's Dharani portal with a new land administration system called Bhu Bharati. The move was aimed at addressing long-standing complaints about Dharani, including lack of transparency, technical glitches, and difficulties faced by farmers during land transactions, official sources said.
Insiders said the state's ongoing financial crunch is a major reason why refunds have been delayed, and there's no timeline for when they will be cleared. With registration costs running into lakhs in Hyderabad and even significant amounts in rural areas, affected citizens say the delay is causing serious financial strain.
"The govt fixed technical issues in the Dharani portal, but what about the money it owes the people," asked an aggrieved farmer. Despite repeated requests, many of them have been waiting to get back their registration fees and stamp duties.
There is growing frustration that burden is being unfairly shifted to individuals who followed due process. Many are considering
legal
action as their only option to recover their rightful dues.

Pharma sector: Firms to clock 11% sales, EBITDA growth in Q1FY26; hospitals, diagnostics segments to outperform
This is an AI-generated image, used for representational purposes only. India's pharmaceutical sector is likely to record a steady 11 per cent year-on-year growth in both sales and EBITDA for the first quarter of FY26, supported by sustained market traction across geographies, a new report by Kotak Institutional Equities has said. However, the report warned that muted domestic demand in April and March may partially offset the gains, as per news agency ANI. 'For pharma companies, we expect continued traction across most markets to drive 11%/11% yoy growth in overall sales/EBITDA in 1QFY26,' the brokerage noted in its sector outlook. The hospitals segment is expected to outpace the broader pharma industry, posting a robust 17 per cent growth in both revenue and EBITDA, aided by higher patient footfalls, new bed additions, and a moderate increase in Average Revenue Per Occupied Bed (ARPOB). Meanwhile, diagnostics firms are projected to see a 14 per cent jump in sales on the back of better test mix, organic volume expansion, and recent merger and acquisition activity. India's pharmaceutical market stood at $50 billion in FY24, with exports contributing $26.5 billion and the domestic market valued at $23.5 billion. Globally, India ranks third in production volume and 14th in value, with a strong portfolio of generics, over-the-counter drugs, vaccines, biologics, and biosimilars. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo According to the National Accounts Statistics 2024 by the ministry of statistics and programme implementation, the gross output from pharmaceuticals, medicinal and botanical products was Rs 4.56 lakh crore in FY23 at constant prices, with Rs 1.75 lakh crore in value addition. Cyber fraud case: Telangana elderly man loses Rs 2.7 crore on fake trading platforms; invested money over 6 months
HYDERABAD: Cyberabad police have registered two cyber fraud cases after a Kondapur family alleged that sham stock trading platforms siphoned off nearly 2.73 crore from a 73-year-old retired employee. According to the first information reports (FIRs), the victim had joined a WhatsApp (WA) group operated by the fraudsters with the name of a known stock trading platform on Dec 23, 2024. They later floated an invite-only VIP group, insisting on big deposits. Investigators said ordinary trading access was gradually curtailed, forcing the investor to borrow and transfer fresh amounts in a bid to qualify. By June 21, 2025, he had pumped in 2.07 crore, with the overall amount in his virtual account showing over 3 crore. The operators then demanded another 17 lakh as profit share, yet blocked every withdrawal request and never issued account statements. The family finally discovered that the webpage and mobile application were fake. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025년 가장 여유 넘치는 농장 게임. 설치 없음 Taonga: 아일랜드 팜 플레이하기 Undo The victim also lost over 65 lakh to fraudsters operating a WA group in the name of another stock trading platform. The sequence began on April 28, 2025 when the retiree enrolled with an entity posing as a Sebi-registered broker. Over the next two months, representatives demanded repeated payments, culminating in a 16 lakh tax call and an additional 15 lakh fee citing a low credit score. After deposits worth 65.03 lakh were made through multiple bank accounts and UPI IDs, the platform stalled payouts.
