NEP making contribution to holistic development of students: PM Modi
In a message on the completion of five years of NEP, Modi noted that the Ministry of Education is organising Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam (ABSS) on Tuesday and new initiatives will be launched in the field of education during the programme.
"Education is the medium that makes a person self-reliant and a nation strong. Our aim is to ensure such an education system in which students can move forward according to their interest, ability and dreams. Today, the country is moving on the path of progress by equipping the education related to the glorious Indian culture with technology and global standards.
"There have been many positive changes in the field of education during the last five years. Whether it is education in mother tongue, strengthening school education or giving special emphasis on skill-based education, the National Education Policy is making a significant contribution to the holistic and multidimensional development of students by encouraging research and innovation," Modi said.
The prime minister noted that in Amrit Kaal, India is rapidly moving towards the creation of a grand and developed country.
"During this period, the role of National Education Policy-2020 will be important in promoting the confidence, curiosity and creativity of our youth. The shiksha samagam is a symbol of our shared resolve and spirit of cooperation.
"I am confident that this event will not only give educational institutions an opportunity to share their best practices, strategies and achievements, but will also further strengthen the continuous efforts for the successful implementation of the National Education Policy," he said.
The Ministry of Education is organising the ABSS on Tuesday to coincide with the fifth anniversary of NEP, when academicians, policymakers, educators, industry leaders and government will review the progress made so far in implementing the ambitious policy.
The deliberations during ABSS 2025 will focus on making education more accessible, practical, skill-oriented and seamlessly integrated with employment opportunities, ensuring students are equipped for a dynamic global economy, they said.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is scheduled to inaugurate the conference that is scheduled to be held at Bharat Mandapam.

US tariff shock jolts Punjab exporters
The 25% tariff announced by US President Donald Trump has come as a big blow to Punjab's exporters, many of whom depend heavily on the American market to run their businesses. 'The tariffs announced by the US President are not just disappointing but very worrying,' said Amit Thapar of Ganga Acrowools Limited in Ludhiana, which exports yarn to the US. Thapar, who is also the chairman of CII's (Northern Region) export committee, said, 'Textile exports worth approximately $10.05 billion were made from India to the US last year and this year till May, the exports have already grown by 13 %.' Punjab contributes a significant 28% to India's total textile export of $36 billion. 'But the problem now facing the industry in the state is lower tariffs on competing countries like Turkey (15%), Vietnam (20%), Pakistan (19%), Bangladesh (20%) and Sri Lanka (20%), all lower than India. This puts Indian exporters at a huge disadvantage. Buyers have been calling us. We will start holding meetings to chart the future path amid uncertainty. I hope the situation improves,' he added. SC Ralhan, president, Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO), who is the managing director of Ludhiana-based Sri Tool industries, said the tariffs were a major setback for the hand tools industry in Punjab that annually exports machinery worth ₹3,000 crore to the US. 'Our government is negotiating with exporters on this front. They are likely to compensate us, but if the tariff is implemented, it will be a huge setback. Countries like Vietnam and Turkey are set to benefit straight away,' he said. Upkar Singh Ahuja, president, Chamber of Commercial and Industrial Undertakings (CICU), said the industry in Punjab will be adversely hit, as besides textiles, hand tools machinery and auto parts were exported in huge quantities to the US. 'We are hopeful that the Indian government will provide a respite soon,' he said.

"For my family members in Kashi, tomorrow, August 2, is a very special day. Around 11 in the morning, I will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for several projects related to education, health, sports, tourism, and connectivity. On this occasion, I will also have the privilege of releasing the 20th instalment of PM-Kisan," PM Modi wrote on X. Road and connectivity PM Modi will inaugurate the widening and strengthening of key roads such as the Varanasi-Bhadohi road and Chhitauni-Shool Tankeshwar road.
