Legend's daughter steals show at Wimbledon

It's been a star-studded affair at the All-England Club this year – but not everyone was so thrilled. Boxing champ Anthony Joshua sat with football great Gary Lineker. Lineker sat with the hulking boxer and said it was an uncomfortable day — physically at least. 'I went to Wimbledon the other day,' he told the Rest Is Football podcast. 'We sat next to Anthony Joshua and Eddie Hearn and we had a laugh watching some great tennis. I was sitting in the seats next to Anthony, and he's obviously huge. His legs … and the only way he sits, because there wasn't enough room, was he had his legs wide open. And I was forced, for like seven hours, whatever it was, to put my legs to the … it got to the stage where I was getting cramp in my inside thigh so badly. And the game was going on and I wanted to shout. But I never had the balls, at any point, to tell him, 'Will you f***ing move your legs over a little bit, give me some room?'' Photo by

Farrell keeps it in the family with Lions captaincy

Coach Andy Farrell has named his son Owen to captain the British and Irish Lions against the First Nations and Pasifika XV in Melbourne on Tuesday. Playing his 20th match for the Lions on his fourth tour, Farrell will lead the Lions for the first time as the tourists turn out at Marvel Stadium in the last of their six tour matches. It's his first start since being drafted into the 2025 squad late as injury cover, with the 33-year-old coming off the bench in the Lions' one-sided win over the AUNZ invitational XV in Adelaide. The Lions are 6-0 on their Australian tour, including a 27-19 victory over the Wallabies in the first Test at Brisbane last Saturday. Backrower Ben Earl and inside backs Alex Mitchell and Marcus Smith have been included in the reserves three days after being involved in the 23-man squad for the first Test. Former England captain Farrell will partner Irishman Jamie Osborne in the centres while Scotland No.9 Ben White will combine with England's Fin Smith in the halves. Blair Kinghorn will return from a knee injury to play fullback in an all-Scotland back three with wingers Darcy Graham and Duhan van der Merwe. Welsh blindside flanker Jac Morgan will start, as will exciting young England No.8 Henry Pollock. Ireland centre Garry Ringrose has overcome concussion symptoms to take a spot on the bench. Jamie George will start at hooker after joining the tour group from Argentina after playing with England. Three other Scottish reinforcements -- lock Gregor Brown, hooker Ewan Ashman and prop Rory Sutherland - were named on the bench. Wallabies veteran Kurtley Beale will captain the inaugural First Nations and Pasifika team. Andy Farrell said the match would give all players a chance to push their case for selection for the final two Tests, the second of which comes on Saturday night at the MCG. "The coaches' minds are open when it comes to selection, they have to be with so many players performing and pushing for places," Farrell said in a statement "This fixture gives players another opportunity to put their hand up for selection for the final two Tests. "This group know the level of performance that we will require against a First Nations and Pasifika team that is packed with talent and power." Lions: Blair Kinghorn (Scotland), Darcy Graham (Scotland), Jamie Osborne (Ireland), Owen Farrell (England, captain), Duhan van der Merwe (Scotland), Fin Smith (England), Ben White (Scotland); Henry Pollock (England), Josh van der Flier (Ireland), Jac Morgan (Wales), Scott Cummings (Scotland), James Ryan (Ireland), Finlay Bealham (Ireland), Jamie George (England), Pierre Schoeman (Scotland). Reserves: Ewan Ashman (Scotland), Rory Sutherland (Scotland), Tom Clarkson (Ireland), Gregor Brown (Scotland), Ben Earl (England), Alex Mitchell (England), Marcus Smith (England), Garry Ringrose (Ireland).

WNBA stars unite in powerful six-word statement over CBA ahead of All-Stars clash

The WNBA All-Stars wanted to send a clear message to the league on the game's brightest stage. All players on Team Clark and Team Collier warmed up for Saturday night's WNBA All-Star Game in shirts that read 'Pay us what you owe us.' 'We get a very tiny percentage of all the money that's made through the WNBA, which obviously is made through the entertainment we provide,' Napheesa Collier said on the decision to wear the shirts. 'So we want a fair and reasonable percentage of that.' The idea was hatched Saturday morning at a players meeting. The demonstration comes after the players and the league failed to reach a new collective bargaining agreement at an in-person meeting Thursday. The league's players opted out of their last CBA in October, and are looking for a better revenue-sharing model, increased salaries, improved benefits and a softer salary cap. After the failed negotiations, many players said there was a large discrepancy between what they wanted and what the league was offering. If a new CBA is not reached by October some players, including All-Stars Collier and Angel Reese, have mentioned the potential of a walkout. At the end of the game, chants of 'Pay them!' broke out in the arena. Some fans held signs that read 'Pay the players,' during the game. 'We had no idea that they were in solidarity with our demonstration,' said Nneka Ogwumike, president of the WNBPA. 'I've been hearing it all weekend at the fan events, supporting us and wanting us to get our fair share of the value.' This was potentially the last time that so many players would be together in one place before the season ends — a fact not lost on the union leadership. 'This is a perfect opportunity to raise awareness for what we're doing and do it together,' Collier said. The players aren't decided whether they'll wear the shirts on their own teams over the course of the second half of the season which begins Tuesday. They hope that fans will wear them as the union announced on social media during the game that the shirts were on sale. Ogwumike was unaware that the shirts were already on sale. 'You put it out there, and you stand on business,' Courtney Williams said about the shirts. 'And we're standing on business.'

Melbourne defender Steven May sent straight to tribunal for rough conduct on Francis Evans

Melbourne star Steven May faces a lengthy ban for a controversial collision that concussed Carlton's Francis Evans after being referred directly to the tribunal. Despite Melbourne and Carlton's coaches defending May, the All-Australian defender has been cited for rough conduct. The AFL's match review officer Michael Christian graded May's contact as careless conduct, severe impact and high contact. May and Evans clashed at speed while attacking a loose ball in the Blues' eight-point win at the MCG on Saturday night. Evans arrived a fraction of a second earlier than his opponent, getting his hands to the ball before May caught him high. Blues coach Michael Voss believed May's act was fair. 'Both players were in line with the ball and seemed to be attacking it,' he said post-match. 'Both sort of making a play at the ball, maybe one person was one step late, and obviously then the incident happens. 'But for Frankie (Evans) to be able to hold his line with a pretty strong man coming the other way was a pretty important moment in the game.' Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin said May's intent was 'clearly' to win the ball. 'If you just look at his pure intent, it was purely for the ball and it was unfortunate,' he said. Goodwin said the AFL was doing an 'unbelievable' job in trying to eradicate concussion from the game. 'It's important that we limit it as much as we can but there will be football incidents where someone is concussed,' he said. Fox Footy commentators Jason Dunstall and Nathan Buckley initially wondered what else May could do in that situation. 'It's a tough one isn't it. He didn't lift the arm, he was desperate to go for the ball, he kept the hands down for the ball ... probably these days you have to step out of the way don't you,' he said. Buckley said it came down a split second and May might have thought he was going to win the ball. 'I don't know whether our game is capable of allowing that anymore. We're trying to legislate that outcome, not the intent, we're taking that outcome out of the game. I don't know, other than not compete, what can Steven May do there,' he said. 'What do we expect Steven May to do in that situation? To not compete, to not contest or is there something he could have done a split second to mitigate against that injury occurring.' But fellow commentator David King said May 'picked off' Evans and called for a six-week suspension. 'He picked him off. It's as simple as that,' he said. 'He knew exactly what he was doing and he picked him off. This is from a bygone era. This is not 2025. 'He's played his last game for the season. That's as bad as it gets, you've got a player in vulnerable position, you choose to bump, you hit nothing but the absolute middle of his face. 'This is a six-weeker for me. It doesn't get worse than that.' May will miss Round 20 regardless of the tribunal outcome after being concussed himself in a separate incident. He sustained an accidental knee to the back of the head late in the match when Carlton ruck Tom De Koning flew to take a spectacular a mark.
