Harry Potter fans divided over first image of Nick Frost's Hagrid
The 53-year-old will play the friendly groundskeeper alongside newcomer Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, who was also pictured in costume this week while filming at Warner Bros Studios in Leavesden.
Fans were left divided over Frost's transformation, with some declaring they were 'loving' the actor in the iconic role, while others said his costume looked like 'cosplaying'.
'I'm so sorry this already looks like a parody show,' one person wrote on X/Twitter. 'Who exactly asked for this?' another fan questioned. Referring to the original Hagrid actor, Robbie Coltrane, another said: 'Love Nick Frost, but no chance of out-Hagrid-ing Hagrid.'
The TV adaptation of the famous franchise, which is expected to debut in 2027, confirmed by HBO Max in 2023, aims to be a 'faithful adaptation of the beloved Harry Potter book series by author and executive producer JK Rowling'.
The series is expected to run for a decade, with each season based on one of the seven Rowling books. The books follow the story of 11-year-old Harry Potter as he learns of his acceptance to Hogwarts, the school of witchcraft and wizardry, and his attempts to defeat the evil Lord Voldemort.

In May last year, HBO announced that after nearly 30,000 auditions for the three lead roles, McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout had been cast as Harry, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley.
Casting for most of the leading characters has been announced in the last few months. Paapa Essiedu is playing potions professor Severus Snape, Janet McTeer is acting as deputy Hogwarts headmistress and Gryffindor House head Minerva McGonagall, and Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.
The actors have faced criticism from some fans calling for a boycott of the series due to Rowling's views on transgender people which many consider transphobic.
However, Frost, known for Shaun of the Dead, made clear in an interview that his opinions 'don't align in any way, shape or form' with those of the franchise creator.
Last month, Rowling, 59, delivered her early verdict on the series in a post on X.
'I read the first two episodes of the forthcoming HBO Harry Potter series and they are SO, SO, SO GOOD!' the author said.
In response, a user asked the author: 'So you are not doing the writing for this show?' to which, the author clarified: 'No, but I've worked closely with the extremely talented writers.'
Rubeus Hagrid was previously played by Scottish actor Robbie Coltrane in the Harry Potter franchise, who died from multiple organ failure in 2022, aged 72, after starring in all eight films as the beloved half-giant.

John Torode left ‘heartbroken' after learning of MasterChef sacking online
John Torode was left 'heartbroken' after discovering he had been sacked from MasterChef online. Shortly after news broke of the celebrity chef being dropped from the cookery show, he released a statement revealing he had not 'heard from anyone at the BBC' or the production company behind the series. It's now been reported that Torode's agent was called 11 minutes before his sacking was announced to the public and that his agent 'hadn't a chance to call him'. 'He read about it on the BBC News website,' a source told The Sun. 'Obviously he's heartbroken. He feels he's been made a scapegoat off the back of the Gregg Wallace report.' The Independent has contacted the BBC, Banijay UK and Torode for comment. Torode, 59, was fired for using 'an extremely offensive racist term', which the chef said he has 'no recollection' of making. The allegation against him was upheld after being made during a seven-month investigation into the show, which substantiated 45 claims of misconduct against his co-host Wallace, including one of unwelcome physical contact. Wallace, who joined the revamped version of the show with Torode in 2005, has also been fired. On Monday (14 July), Torode confirmed that he was being investigated over his language, but said he was 'shocked and saddened' by the allegation and said he knows any racial language 'is wholly unacceptable in any environment'. After being dropped from the show without consultation, he said: 'I'd hoped that I'd have some say in my exit from a show I've worked on since its relaunch in 2005, but events in the last few days seem to have prevented that.' In 2023, Ayo won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for The Bear. She was nominated in 2024 for Outstanding Leading Actress in a Comedy Series but lost to Hacks star Jean Smart. This year she is nominated again in the Outstanding Leading Actress in a Comedy Series category. And for the first time in her career, she is nominated for Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series for her direction of the episode Napkins in The Bear. Kathy Bates has become the oldest woman in history to be nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series at the age of 77, for the show Matlock. As a decorated and celebrated actress and veteran of the industry, Kathy Bates has crossed several milestones, with this one adding to it. This nomination is very fitting, considering that she is planning to retire from acting after the show ends. Big ensemble cast shows Severance and The Studio lead the Emmy nominations. While the majority of the cast members of The White Lotus were included in the award race, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Michelle Monaghan, Sam Nivola, and Leslie Bibb didn't seem to make the cut. And given the high praise for Patrick in this season, this definitely was a letdown. Similarly, Elizabeth Moss was also snubbed for the last season of The Handmaid's Tale, where she had been nominated in the past for Outstanding Lead Actress four times, and even won once. Eddie Redmayne won a Golden Globe and a SAG award for his role in The Day Of The Jackal but missed an acting nomination at the Emmys. Similarly, Agatha All Along missed out on any acting nominations, the loved show Andor missed out in the acting category, and Squid Game season 2 had no nominations, a major shock compared to the run they had in season 1. These Emmy Award 2025 nominations stand out as a testament to the fact that we are having the best television run currently. While the snubs were definitely surprising, I could not be more excited to see what other works are underway and who ultimately will walk away with an Emmy. It's moments like these that make me a true cinema and TV fan. The 2025 Emmys will be broadcast on September 24.

Primary Wave has acquired the publishing rights of Fleetwood Mac founder and original guitarist Peter Green, the company announced on Monday, with Primary Wave acquiring Green's interests in the songs he composed as well as the assets of Green's Rattlesnake music publishing catalog. The instrumental 'Albatross,' which Green wrote himself, became the band's biggest early hit, topping the charts in the U.K. 'Black Magic Woman' meanwhile, became a hit for Santana and remains one of his biggest songs over five decades later. His 1959 Gibson Les Paul is itself a legendary instrument among guitarists, known to have a unique tone because one of its pickups was placed in the guitar upside down. That guitar, known as 'Greeny,' is owned by Metallica's Kirk Hammett, who's been known to give replicas of the instrument to other guitarists. 'When I look at the definition of a musical genius, Peter Green ticks every box,' Primary Wave's Robin Godfrey Cass said in a statement. 'As a musician, songwriter, and founder of Fleetwood Mac, he is an icon. It has been over 60 years ago since he began writing his body of legendary songs which are still in use every day.
