New Bangladeshi High-Commissioner Presents Credentials to President Ramkalawan
President Ramkalawan extended his congratulations to High Commissioner Ahad upon his appointment, acknowledging the enduring diplomatic partnership between Seychelles and Bangladesh that has flourished and strengthened over four decades of sustained collaboration.
On behalf of the Government and People of Seychelles, the Head of State conveyed the country's deepest condolences and solidarity to the People and Government of Bangladesh following the tragic plane crash. 'Our thoughts are with the bereaved families and all those affected during this difficult time. Seychelles stands with Bangladesh in this moment of sorrow.'
His Excellency Ahad expressed profound honour and appreciation for his new diplomatic role, conveying the warm felicitations and best wishes of His Excellency Mohammed Shahabuddin, President of Bangladesh, to the Government and people of the Republic of Seychelles.
Discussions between the two leaders centred on strengthening existing frameworks of cooperation across key strategic sectors, including agriculture, climate change mitigation, fisheries development, tourism, and marine security. Both dignitaries also explored innovative avenues for collaboration aimed at further enhancing the longstanding and robust bilateral partnership between the two island nations.
Addressing members of the press following the accreditation ceremony, High Commissioner Ahad underscored the unwavering commitment of both governments to deepening and diversifying their bilateral relationship across multiple sectors of mutual strategic interest and benefit.
The Republic of Seychelles and the People's Republic of Bangladesh established formal diplomatic relations in February 1983, marking over four decades of sustained cooperation, friendship, and mutual understanding. His Excellency Mr. Zokey Ahad succeeds his distinguished predecessor, Her Excellency Rezina Ahmed, and will conduct his diplomatic mission from the High Commission's regional headquarters in Port Louis, Mauritius.
Present for the ceremony were the Minster for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Mr Sylvestre Radegonde, Director General Bilateral Affairs, Ms Lindy Ernesta and Second Secretary, Mr Davis Mathiot.

Swearing-In Ceremony for Four Members of the Electoral Commission
A formal swearing-in ceremony took place this morning at State House for four newly appointed members of the Electoral Commission of Seychelles. Their appointment follows the conclusion of the term of office for four outgoing members on 27th July 2025. In light of 2025 being an election year - and in a bid to ensure uninterrupted operations of the Commission - the Constitutional Appointments Authority initiated the recruitment process as early as March 2025, publicly advertising the vacant positions to facilitate a smooth transition. Four members - two of whom have been re-appointed and two newly appointed - were officially sworn in before the President of the Republic of Seychelles, Mr. Wavel Ramkalawan, in accordance with Article 115 of the Constitution. Their appointments were made following recommendations put forward by the Constitutional Appointments Authority (CAA). The four Electoral Commissioners sworn in this morning included; • · Mrs. Jenny Adrienne (being re-appointed) • · Mr. Patrick Hoareau (being re-appointed) • · Mr. Steve Pointe (new member) · Dr. Bernard Monnaie (new member) The President of the Republic of Seychelles, Mr. Wavel Ramkalawan, presided over the ceremony and formally addressed the newly sworn-in members following the administration of the oath of allegiance and oath of office. In his remarks, President Ramkalawan extended his congratulations to the Commissioners and underscored the pivotal role of the Electoral Commission in safeguarding the democratic foundations of the nation. He urged the appointees to uphold the highest standards of impartiality, transparency, and professionalism in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities. The Electoral Commission plays a central role in ensuring the conduct of free, fair, and credible elections in Seychelles - an essential pillar in maintaining public confidence in the democratic process. As Head of State, President Ramkalawan further underscored the importance of the Commission's independence, noting that its members are not appointed by the President. The outgoing Non-Resident Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Republic of Seychelles H.E. Mr. Wael M. Nasr Eldin M. Attiya, paid a farewell courtesy call on the President of the Republic of Seychelles, Mr. Wavel Ramkalawan, this morning at State House. President Ramkalawan extended his appreciation to Ambassador Khalil for his dedication and efforts in strengthening the longstanding relations between Seychelles and Egypt during his tenure. He commended the Ambassador for his active role in promoting bilateral cooperation in key areas of mutual interest, including education, health, and capacity building. 'I would like to thank you for your commendable efforts in strengthening the Bilateral relationship between Seychelles and the Arab Republic of Egypt. During your tenure, you have worked closely with various Seychelles Ministries to deepen our bonds of friendship, understanding, and cooperation in key areas of shared interest. I am confident that your successor will continue in your footsteps to ensure continuity and conclusion of the various avenues of cooperation,' said President Ramkalawan. The Head of State also expressed Seychelles' commitment to further deepening the strong ties between the two countries and conveyed his best wishes to Ambassador Khalil in his future endeavours. Liberia Secures Seat on United Nations (UN) Global Tax Committee
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), has announced Liberia's inclusion among the newly appointed members of the United Nations Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters. This milestone follows the decision of the UN Secretary-General to appoint 25 distinguished tax experts to the Committee, each serving a four-year term ending on June 30, 2029. Representing Liberia on this globally significant body is Mr. Darlingston Y. Talery, a highly respected tax policy specialist and former Commissioner for Domestic Tax at the LRA. Mr. Talery currently heads the Department of Domestic Resource Mobilization at ECOWAS Commission. Mr. Talery's appointment is a major step for Liberia, showcasing the country's growing prominence in global tax policy dialogue and reinforcing its commitment to transparent, fair, and effective tax governance. 'The inclusion of Liberia in this globally significant committee sends a clear message about the capacity, credibility, and growing influence of Liberia's public institutions,' said H.E. Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Minister of Foreign Affairs. The appointment process followed a communication from the UN Secretary-General, dated November 20, 2024, inviting all 193 UN Member States to nominate qualified candidates. Of the 58 nominations received globally, 25 were appointed, including Liberia's Mr. Talery. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this appointment aligns with the administration's broader goal of increasing Liberian representation in foreign and international organizations. The Ministry is encouraging all Ministries, Agencies, and Commissions to collaborate in identifying and nominating qualified Liberians for such positions, following the example set by the LRA in Talery's nomination. The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), acting under its Resolution 2004/69 and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda of the Third International Conference on Financing for Development (endorsed by the UN General Assembly in Resolution 69/313), mandates the formation of this Committee to enhance international tax cooperation. The 25-member body comprises experts nominated by Member States and appointed by the Secretary-General in their personal capacities, ensuring diverse geographic representation and a wide range of tax system expertise. Liberia's inclusion marks a milestone for the Government, reflecting the strong partnership between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the LRA. The Government of Liberia considers this recognition as a validation of its efforts to position the country as a proactive voice in shaping global financial and tax policies. The Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters plays a critical role in advancing global tax transparency, combating illicit financial flows, supporting domestic resource mobilization, and improving the coherence of international tax rules. Liberia's representation will ensure that the perspectives and development challenges of African nations particularly those in fragile and post-conflict contexts are effectively represented in the Committee's deliberations. Liberia now joins a diverse group of countries represented on the Committee, including Nigeria, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Rwanda, France, India, China, Belgium, Brazil, and Australia, among others.
