By moving to the Saudi Pro League, more eyes will be on the Kimberley-born Nkota. While his salary and transfer fee have not been made public, a player around Nkota's age at Al-Ettifaq can be paid as much as R6.5 million a year. According to the Capology portal, the lowest-paid player at the club earns around R2.5 million per year.
The Saudi Pro League has made headlines in recent years due to a number of high-profile transfers. One of these players is global football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. Other players who have moved to the Middle East are Neymar, Ivan Toney, and Karim Benzema.
Nkota's new club, Al-Ettifaq, who finished seventh last season, are captained by former Liverpool star Gini Wijnaldum. Former Lyon and Fulham forward Mousa Dembélé is also on their books.
Al-Ettifaq are not one of the bigger clubs in Saudi Arabia, but they have tasted silverware. They've won the Saudi Pro League twice, but the last time they lifted the trophy was in 1987, 17 years before Nkota was born.
So, what do we know about Nkota's new club?
Unlike the likes of Al-Nassr, Al-Hilal, and Al-Ittihad, they are not as cash-rich, as they're not owned by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund. However, the club is under the control of the country's sports ministry.
For the upcoming 2025/26 season, they will be under a new manager in Saad Al-Shehri. The previous manager, Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, left by mutual consent after 18 months in charge.
With more eyes on Nkota's talents, he will be hoping to earn more Bafana Bafana call-ups in the future, and perhaps one day a move to Europe.
Nkota's move is a big step for him, and it shows just how much South African talent is being noticed beyond our shores. It won't be easy, but if he can prove himself in Saudi Arabia, there's no telling where his career could go next. Fans will be watching closely, hoping he makes the most of this opportunity.

Orlando Pirates: New faces, recovery updates, transfer chase

Orlando Pirates' pre-season training in Spain is now in full swing, with the club unveiling a clear strategy of rebuilding and refreshing their squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. The addition of nine new players, including promising young talents such as Sipho Mbule and Oswin Appollis, has brought renewed energy to the camp. The coaching staff is closely monitoring their progress, aiming to blend youthful exuberance with the experience of established squad members. The mood within the squad remains professional and focused, despite the looming departure of Mohau Nkota, who is set to complete a transfer to Saudi Arabia's Ettifaq Club. Nkota's goals and attacking contributions were instrumental last season, making his exit a notable loss. However, the Buccaneers appear determined to adapt quickly, working hard to build a team capable of competing strongly both domestically and on the continental stage. On the injury front, defender Olisa Ndah is making encouraging progress as he nears a return from a lengthy layoff. His presence will strengthen Orlando Pirates' backline, which has been tested during pre-season due to absences. Meanwhile, off the pitch, reports have emerged linking the Buccaneers to Nigerian striker Etiosa Ighodaro, a player who impressed during his recent loan spell at AmaZulu FC. If completed, this signing could offer valuable attacking options, helping to fill the void left by Nkota and increase competition for starting places upfront. The future of talented midfielder Relebohile Mofokeng remains a key talking point. With interest reportedly coming from European clubs, his stay at Pirates is not guaranteed. Nevertheless, the club is focusing on assembling a balanced squad ready to challenge for trophies, regardless of the outcome. Orlando Pirates clear out as stars set to join absent winger

Orlando Pirates look set to send two more players to Orbit College, as the club continues to trim its squad ahead of the new season. Defender Yanga Madiba and midfielder Thuso Moleleki are the latest names lined up to join Monnapule Saleng at the Betway Premiership newcomers for the 2025/2026 campaign. Talks are already at an advanced stage between the Soweto giants and Orbit College. The potential deals would follow the completion of Saleng's switch, after a frustrating year clouded in mystery regarding his role at Pirates. 'Saleng now reunites with his former employers and coach Pogiso Makhonye in an effort to revive his career.' Saleng's move to Orbit offers the winger a clean slate and a chance to reignite his spark under a familiar face. His reunion with Makhonye not only signals a fresh chapter but also highlights Orbit's ambition to build a competitive top-flight squad bolstered by top talent. With Saleng's switch, Madiba and Moleleki are expected to leave on loan too. However, Pirates are intent on keeping them in the long-term picture. Insiders reveal that the club views the pair as future first-team material. And this temporary move forms part of a strategic development plan. Madiba, who spent last season at Orbit College while they were still in the lower division. Earned a senior team promotion under then-coach Jose Riveiro. Now, the club wants him to gain more experience under regular match conditions. Before potentially returning to make an impact under new head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou. 'A loan option now gives the duo a chance to impress new coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, albeit from a distance.' While the immediate plan appears to be short-term loans, sources suggest that permanent moves have not been ruled out entirely. However, the current direction indicates that Pirates want to monitor the players' progress throughout the season. Before making any long-term decisions. Is it a good idea to release these promising Orlando Pirates duo? Let us know by leaving a comment below or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1.
