‘Jurassic World Rebirth' targets $127M US Opening, over $250M globally in holiday box office launch

Jurassic World Rebirth is heading for a strong debut at the box office, aiming for a five-day opening of $127.5 million in the United States and a projected global launch exceeding $250 million. The film opened midweek on July 2 to take advantage of the extended Fourth of July holiday corridor in North America and is rolling out internationally. The seventh entry in the dinosaur franchise is performing at the higher end of expectations, with an opening day gross of $28 million, placing it among the top 20 Wednesday grosses in box office history. The film, from Steven Spielberg's Amblin Productions and Universal, features an all-new cast led by Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey. Directed by Gareth Edwards, with a script by original Jurassic Park writer David Koepp, Jurassic World Rebirth follows an extraction team racing to an island research facility linked to the original Jurassic Park. During their mission, they encounter a shipwrecked family while facing dangerous creatures left on the island. The cast also includes Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono and Audrina Miranda. Producers Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley return, with Spielberg and Denis Stewart serving as executive producers. While Rebirth is opening lower than previous Jurassic World installments, it was produced with a lower budget of $225 million before marketing costs. Previous films in the franchise grossed over $1 billion globally each, with 2015's Jurassic World opening to a franchise-best $208.8 million in the US. Spielberg remains closely involved in the franchise, with Jurassic World Rebirth setting the stage for a new era of films within the iconic dinosaur saga.

Vin Diesel teases Paul Walker return in Fast and Furious 11 with April 2027 release date

Vin Diesel has announced that the final installment of the Fast & Furious franchise is slated for release in April 2027. During a surprise appearance at Fuel Fest, a car enthusiast event in Pomona, California, Diesel shared new details about Fast & Furious 11, appearing alongside co-stars Tyrese Gibson and Cody Walker. Diesel told fans that he agreed to Universal's proposed release date under three specific conditions: returning the story to Los Angeles, reviving the franchise's street racing roots, and reuniting Dominic Toretto with Brian O'Conner, the late Paul Walker's iconic character. Walker, who died in a 2013 car crash, portrayed O'Conner from the franchise's inception. Any return for the character would likely rely on digital effects or archival footage, similar to how Furious 7 handled his emotional sendoff using body doubles and CGI. Fast X, the tenth main entry in the franchise, debuted in May 2023 and grossed over $700 million globally, despite a production budget of $340 million. The film featured Jason Momoa, Michelle Rodriguez, Alan Ritchson, Rita Moreno, and Brie Larson. It ended on a cliffhanger, originally marketed as the first part of a two-part finale. It remains unclear whether Fast 11 will directly continue that storyline or branch into new territory. However, Diesel's comments suggest the film will focus on emotional closure and a nostalgic return to the series' early themes. The studio has yet to confirm how O'Conner's reappearance will be executed, but the promise of his reunion with Dom is already generating major anticipation among fans as the franchise approaches its final lap.

Brad Pitt's 'F1' cruises to top of N.America box office

LOS ANGELES: "F1: The Movie," starring Brad Pitt as a washed up Formula One driver who gets one last shot at redemption, sped to the top of the North American box office in its debut weekend with $55.6 million in ticket sales, industry estimates showed Sunday. "This is an outstanding opening for an original action sports drama," said David A. Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research, noting that both critics and audiences have loved the racing film from Apple and Warner Bros. "How to Train Your Dragon," Universal and DreamWorks Animation's live-action reboot of the popular 2010 film, slipped to second place with $19.4 million, according to Exhibitor Relations. Brad Pitt's F1 movie set for release in June 2025 The family-friendly film tells the story of a Viking named Hiccup (Mason Thames) who strikes up a friendship with Toothless the dragon. In third place was Disney/Pixar Animation's latest original film "Elio," at $10.7 million in the United States and Canada. "Elio" tells the story of a young boy who is mistaken by aliens as an intergalactic ambassador for Earth. The voice cast includes Oscar winner Zoe Saldana. "M3GAN 2.0," the sequel to Universal's 2022 film about a murderous doll, opened in a disappointing fourth place with $10.2 million. "The idea of a child-sized humanoid robot doll powered by AI generated a lot of interest the first time, but that interest has fallen apart," Gross said. In fifth place was Columbia Pictures' zombie sequel "28 Years Later," which took in $9.7 million. Critics' reviews and audience ratings have been strong for the Danny Boyle-directed threequel, which picks up -- as the title suggests -- more than a generation after the initial outbreak of the Rage Virus. Rounding out the top 10 were: "Lilo & Stitch" ($6.9 million) "Mission: Impossible -- The Final Reckoning" ($4.2 million) "Materialists" ($3 million) "Ballerina" ($2.1 million) "Karate Kid: Legends" ($1 million)
