Saudi graduates see record job market entry in 2024

RIYADH — The percentage of Saudi higher education graduates entering the workforce within six months of graduation surged to 44.43% in 2024, up from just 13.3% in 2016, according to the newly released annual report of the Human Capability Development Program (HCDP). Youth employment for Saudis aged 15–24 also climbed to 36.2%, compared to 18% in 2020. Launched by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman in 2021, the HCDP is a key Vision 2030 program aimed at equipping citizens with the skills and capabilities needed across all life stages. The program focuses on aligning education outcomes with labor market demands, while investing in national talent to enhance Saudi Arabia's global competitiveness. In technical and vocational education, the employment rate within six months of graduation rose to 47.81%. The program launched six new strategic academies and activated four local technical colleges, focusing on fields such as tourism and hospitality. Five international academies trained more than 150,000 individuals, while overall enrollment in vocational education increased to 30.54%, surpassing the program's 2024 targets. To support quality training, more than 130 technical colleges were upgraded with training equipment, and digital platforms were enhanced to expand access across the Kingdom. On the entrepreneurship front, HCDP empowered 40 startups through advanced programs in collaboration with Stanford and UC Berkeley. These startups received executive leadership coaching, participated in 220 sessions with global experts, and gained access to Silicon Valley's innovation ecosystem. As a result, the supported startups attracted SR42 million ($11.2 million) in venture capital and created 120 new jobs. Forty founders were admitted to top-tier international business incubators, reinforcing Saudi Arabia's progress in global innovation indices. The program also helped drive momentum in Silicon Valley with 29 entrepreneurial and investment events and four investor days that connected Saudi startups with international financiers. Additionally, 120 university-based startups were supported, over 11,000 students trained in entrepreneurship, and 60 new companies launched via regional accelerators. Three new university-based incubators were also established. © Copyright 2022 The Saudi Gazette. All Rights Reserved. Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc. (

Dubai won the real estate tokenization play

Opinion by: Irina Heaver, crypto lawyer The crypto markets are undergoing a hard reset. The speculative hype of 2021 is now a thing of the past. Memecoins and DeFi derivatives no longer move markets like they used to. Investors are no longer chasing vapor; they are looking for substance. They want tangible assets, real returns and real infrastructure. This is precisely where real-world assets (RWAs) come into play. In a market that's tired of pumps and dumps and desperate for durability, tokenizing assets like real estate, luxury goods and commodities offers a rare trifecta: tangible value, yield and access. No white paper fiction with mostly fake advisers, no tokenomics that benefit insiders and early VCs — just good old bricks, gold and oil, but onchain. In the UAE in particular, among all the RWA categories, real estate stands out as the most promising, and it's not hard to see why. RWA tokenization in Dubai For the first time, owning a piece of prime Dubai real estate no longer demands massive upfront capital. Tokenization has opened the gates, allowing anyone with a smartphone and a few hundred dollars to buy fractional shares in a luxury villa, a downtown apartment or a high-yield rental property in JVC. The promise of democratized investing, an idea that has been circling the industry for years, is no longer just theoretical but a framework grounded in law. In May, Dubai's Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) introduced updated rules. The regulator created a new category of virtual assets: Asset-Referenced Virtual Assets (ARVAs), specifically designed to allow the compliant tokenization of real-world assets like real estate. Tokenized real estate in Dubai This new framework enables the issuance and trading of tokenized real estate on regulated exchanges or through regulated brokers. Issuers must obtain a Category 1 VARA license, meet capital requirements, undergo audits, publish white papers and make proper disclosures. It is a regulated, secure framework designed to support a new generation of global capital. And it's already delivering results. Last month, the Dubai Land Department, together with VARA and leading developers, oversaw the tokenization and sale of two apartments. The entire offering sold out within minutes. Buyers came from over 35 countries, and remarkably, 70% of them were first-time real estate investors in Dubai. This was not an institutional play; it was global retail, arriving with crypto wallets in hand, ready to purchase property onchain. Tokenization made it possible. The benefits aren't limited to investors. Developers finally have an alternative to traditional funding channels. Tokenization enables them to access global capital markets without relinquishing equity, incurring excessive debt with banks, or navigating painstakingly slow fundraising processes. Investors now can diversify across multiple properties rather than committing all their capital to a single deal. And with Dubai's rental yields consistently outperforming those of most major global cities, the value proposition speaks for itself. So why now? What's driving this surge in interest around RWAs? UAE's regulatory clarity around RWA tokenization In uncertain macroeconomic conditions, capital seeks hard assets. Commodities such as gold, oil and natural gas are beginning to look increasingly attractive. The UAE now offers both regulatory clarity and real market and infrastructure access. This was not always the case. The St. Regis Aspen Resort tokenization project, launched in 2018, raised $18 million and was among the first SEC-compliant real estate offerings onchain. It faced numerous challenges. The tokens were not listed on exchanges until 2020, which caused delays for investors seeking liquidity. Even after listing, trading volume remained low, and the token price dropped significantly from $1.32 to $0.85 by early 2022. Access to the offering was limited to accredited investors, and the project's switch from Ethereum to Tezos introduced additional complexity. Although many initially viewed the project as a failure, by 2024 the Aspen tokens had recovered and surged over 200%, indicating that the early struggles were more a result of the growing pains of a new model than a flawed concept. One of the most high-profile early attempts at real estate tokenization — the attempted tokenization of The Plaza Hotel in New York, powered by the same blockchain platform (Harbor) — never made it to market. Despite raising $28 million in venture funding and generating significant buzz, the project was ultimately shelved due to a web of operational, legal, and stakeholder complexities. These early setbacks revealed an uncomfortable truth: While the vision was sound, the surrounding ecosystem, technological, legal, and financial, simply was not ready. The US attempted to regulate 21st-century innovations with a legal framework built in the 1930s. It did not work. Founders looked elsewhere. And Dubai finally stepped up. The UAE didn't try to bend old rules to accommodate new tech. It built something new and that has made all the difference. Suppose you're a founder building a tokenization platform, a VC looking to back infrastructure plays, a family office allocating toward alternative assets, or a builder looking for the next high-impact vertical — if the UAE's RWA tokenization is not already on your radar, you're behind. The rails are built. The market is live. And while they used to say 'Habibi, come to Dubai' — now, Dubai is coming to you wherever you are, in the form of tokenized real-world assets. UAE summer: Some parents use holiday to teach kids budgeting, financial literacy

As travel, dining out, and summer camps fill up family calendars across the UAE, many parents are turning these holidays into something more meaningful — teaching their kids about money. Globally, concerns are rising about young adults' financial dependence. A recent 2025 report by revealed that 50 per cent of parents in the US are still covering their adult children's expenses, averaging over Dh5,400 ($1,474) per month. In the UAE, many parents are taking a proactive approach to financial education — turning everyday outings, like grocery runs or family day trips, into real-life money lessons to foster independence early on. Smart money habits With children at home and summer spending on the rise, the break offers a valuable opportunity to teach budgeting, saving, and mindful spending. From small allowances to setting savings goals, experts say the most effective lessons often come from everyday experiences. Educators said that summer presents a golden window to instil smart money habits in children. 'Summer offers students the chance to rest, reset, and reconnect with themselves, their families, and the world beyond the classroom,' said Amanda Murphy, head of Secondary at GEMS International School – Al Khail. While financial literacy is embedded in the school's IB curriculum, especially in the Middle Years Programme and Business Management classes, Murphy believes the most powerful lessons come outside of textbooks. 'Structured financial literacy programmes during the holidays may benefit some, but they should be balanced with time for real-life experiences," she added. 'Learning is never confined to school walls nor should summer feel like an extension of the timetable. At its best, it's a time for unstructured learning, joy, and making memories — because those are investments, too," she further noted. Everyday moments, lasting lessons Girish Hemnani, a Dubai-based life coach and energy healer, echoed this sentiment. 'Teaching financial literacy during the holidays is a wonderful opportunity for experiential learning,' he said. ' Summer outings, camps, and even everyday shopping trips can become powerful lessons in mindful spending, budgeting, and making purposeful choices." "These real-life situations allow children to see money not as a source of stress or entitlement, but as a tool to be used with awareness and intention," he added. Hemnani also urged parents to model healthy financial behaviour. 'It's important for parents to examine their own relationship with money. Children model what they observe more than what they're told. Being honest with your own financial mindset and allowing room for conversation rather than control creates a healthy emotional foundation for your child.' Delayed gratification pays off Ben Lebig, a registered financial planner, has been giving his daughter money lessons from a young age. Now a teenager, she's applying those skills in real life. For the Filipino expat, conversations about money are a regular part of family life. 'Since my daughter was still very young, we have already started teaching her about handling money,' he said. 'We've always encouraged her to manage her own money from allowances, gifts, or selling used books,' he added. 'Fifty per cent of anything she receives goes straight into savings. It's a non-negotiable rule.' Lebig said the payoff is clear. Now that his 15-year-old daughter's outings with friends have increased during the break, she's putting those lessons into practice. 'This is where our lesson about delayed gratification becomes handy… If she sees anything she likes, she is taught not to impulsively purchase it but to discuss it with us first.' He said this has helped her not only plan better, but also question whether she truly wants something. 'Over the years of patiently teaching my daughter how to handle her finances, we now visibly see significant improvements… She's maturing, and we involve her in family finance discussions too.' Dh30 pocket money and a sense of purpose For Arijit Nandi, father of a nine-year-old, it started with just a few dirhams a month. 'I've started giving my son about Dh30 per month as pocket money,' he said. 'He keeps it in his piggy bank and only buys something after discussing it with us. Since it's summer break and he's at home, my wife sometimes sends him alone to a pastry shop or a fast food joint while she waits in the car. She gives him cash, he makes the purchase, and brings back the change.' This small activity, he said, has made a big impact. 'We've set spending limits, which has helped him develop a strong sense of responsibility. He often spends less than he's allowed. Occasionally, he even uses his saved-up money to buy birthday gifts for friends and cousins.'
