Five fights Dana White can make for Ilia Topuria after epic UFC 317 KO, including Paddy Pimblett grudge match
ILIA TOPURIA is the new king of the UFC's lightweight division.
The Georgian-born Spaniard became only the
TENTH
fighter in the
history
of MMA's premier promotion to hold titles in two weight classes last weekend in the main event of UFC 317 in
Las Vegas

'El Matador' claimed the vacant lightweight title with a blistering first-round KO of former champion
Attention has already turned to who the 28-year-old will fight in his maiden defence of the 155lbs throne, which he'll no doubt be hoping will take place in his adopted homeland of Spain.
And SunSport is on hand with five fighters the new fan favourite could face in his
next
outing.
Paddy Pimblett
Given their long-standing beef, which stemmed from social media comments Pimblett made about Georgians, this fight is an absolute no-brainer.
The pair are currently the two biggest names in the stacked division, so pitting them together, especially when they're both in red-hot form, makes sense.
The build-up to this one would be box office, especially after their
UFC supremo Dana White has, however, already revealed he's not keen on pitting the pair against one another
next
.
But the demand for this fight, the biggest the promotion can make at the moment in time, is white hot.

So the UFC would be foolish not to capitalise while the iron is hot and book this long overdue clash of stars.
Islam Makhachev
Watch jacked Ilia Topuria complete epic UFC 317 body transformation after ditching crash diet to lose over 40lbs
Topuria, of course, moved up from featherweight in February to pursue a champion-versus-champion with pound-for-pound king
Islam
Makhachev.
Makhchev, as we all know, ended up begrudgingly vacating the 155lbs belt to pursue welterweight gold once former training partner Belal Muhammad lost the belt to Jack Della Maddalena.
The Dagestani destroyer is understood to harbour ambitions of reclaiming the belt he won in October 2022.
It would make for a fantastic storyline if Makhachev were to win gold at 170lbs and drop back down to 155lbs to try to reclaim what was once his in a super-fight fans are still pining for.

Arman Tsarukyan
The Armenian, of course, was set to challenge Makhachev for the belt in January before a freak back injury less than
48 hours
before fight night scuppered the bout.
Tsarukyan, who is on a four-fight win streak, weighed in as the backup fighter for the main event.
So it would make sense for him to be in the running to be Topuria's first opponent for his reign as king of the lightweights.

Justin Gaethje
He may only be riding a one-fight win streak, and just over a year removed from a brutal KO at the hands of Max Holloway, but there is a case for Gaethje getting the title shot.
He did the UFC brass a favour by agreeing to defend the BMF belt against Holloway at UFC 300 following back-to-back wins of Rafael Fiziev and
The promotion threw a boatload of cash at Gaethje in order to jazz up their tri-centennial card and his decision to take the fight cost him dearly.
Doing him a solid and giving him a third crack at
undisputed
lightweight gold at Topuria is the least the UFC could do.

Max Holloway
Although Topuria became the first man to crack Holloway's chin in his first and final featherweight title defence, there is still some interest in a rematch between the pair.
Holloway cut a drained figure in their fight as he was returning to the weight class having filled out his frame to face Gaethje in their BMF bout at UFC 300.

The weight cut could've played a role in his chin finally giving out, although Topuria does carry insane
power
in both hands.
Either way, should Holloway win his trilogy fight with Poirier next month in emphatic fashion, the appetite for a rematch will likely be there.

Ireland's Shauna Bannon to face Sam Hughes as UFC returns to Paris
IRISH UFC STAR Shauna Bannon will return to the Octagon in Paris on Saturday, 6 September, when she squares off with American Sam Hughes at the Accor Arena. Dublin's 'Mama B' (7-1), who showed remarkable powers of recovery to earn a second-round submission victory over India's Puja Tomar at UFC London in March, will seek to climb the strawweight rankings against the equally in-form 'Sampage' (10-6). Bannon, the second Irishwoman to fight under the UFC's banner after Aisling Daly, will meet Dallas native Hughes on a card headlined by France's top middleweight Nassourdine 'The Sniper' Imavov and fellow top-10 contender Caio 'The Natural' Borralho. Imavov-Borralho will mark the UFC's return to Paris for a fourth consecutive year, with tickets going on general sale at 8am Irish time this Friday, 4 July. Advertisement Bannon and Hughes both enter their strawweight contest off the back of two wins on the spin. Prior to Bannon's comeback victory over Tomar (previously 9-4) in March, she earned a split-decision win over Alice Ardelean (previously 9-5). The relentless Hughes, meanwhile, has earned back-to-back splits over Victoria Dudakova (previously 8-0) and Stephanie Luciano (previously 6-1-1).

Conor McGregor draws huge crowd at the beach as UFC star is filmed training in the sun
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Conor McGregor was spotted hitting the mitts on a beach in Ibiza, as a crowd of amazed spectators applauded his workout. The 36-year-old has been out of action since his 2021 loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 - a fight which led to an extended lay-off for the Notorious one due to suffering a broken leg in the first round. However, it now looks as though McGregor is now eyeing up his grand return to the world of combat sports, as he was spotted showcasing his hand speed, precision and power as the sun beamed down on him. A large crowd gathered to watch the Dubliner on the beach as he threw combination after combination, before a chorus of clapping and cheering erupted as he wrapped things up. Video footage also uploaded by McGregor shows the Irishman's fiancee, Dee Devlin, and their children were present at the exhibition. Elsewhere, footage also showed McGregor wrapping his hands under a parasol prior to the showing, with what appeared to be dollar bill designed swathes as he chucked and said: "Money in the till, baby. Money in the till." McGregor was actually set to return to the UFC last June to take on Michael Chandler off the back of their heated rivalry as coaches on season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter. However, the pugilist pulled out of the bout in the build-up, citing a broken toe as his reason for withdrawing. While McGregor seems eager to get back into the Octagon in the near future, Dana White and the UFC matchmakers have failed to announce a date or an opponent for his return as of yet. However, Chandler is still seemingly holding out hope that he will be the man to welcome the former featherweight and lightweight champion back to the promotion. Speaking to Mirror Fighting in November, the 39-year-old said: "I still believe Conor comes back at some point, and when he does, that road goes through Nashville, Tennessee, and Michael Chandler. We have to finish TUF 31, we have to get a fight poster that actually comes to fruition for a fight, we have to get a contract that actually comes to fruition for a fight but either way if the fight with Conor never happens, I am completely content - I wish him well. (Image: Getty Images) "But I have a sneaky suspicion Conor does not want to sail off into the sunset the way he has right now. He wants to come back and needs to come back for Conor McGregor 's legacy." It comes just weeks after McGregor was spotted brushing shoulders with a wealth of celebrities at Wayne Lineker's famed Ocean Beach Club, pictured with the likes of model Katie Price and Tottenham Hotspur star, Kevin Danso. McGregor was shirtless and sporting a pair of red Versace shorts as he puffed away on a cigar while entering the open-air club, playing up to an adoring crowd. (Image: Conor McGregor Instagram) And a snap shared with his 46.5million followers saw him sharing a smile with Price, as he wrote: "@katieprice forever." In response, Price also shared the photo while adding: "You legend," in adoration of the mixed martial artist. While McGregor has seemingly been more focused on promoting his Bare Knuckle FC promotion as of late, he also appears to have continued to have been invested in the UFC. Taking to X after Ilia Topuria's first-round knockout of Charles Oliveira at the weekend at UFC 317 - in which he won the lightweight title - McGregor wrote: "Congrats on winning my old titles, illia!" He added, in the post which has since been deleted: "He said he gonna rest his b**** on paddy['s] head too hahah fair play. Good LW scrap that one is as well imo. UFC is back? Or still missing something..? 3 ko's back to back is very good. No one can deny the knockout. I like."

McGregor trains on beach in front of holidaymakers as he steps up UFC comeback
Conor McGregor was seen giving a dazzling display of his boxing skills on an Ibiza beach, as an adoring crowd watched on. The 36-year-old has been out of action since his defeat to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in 2021 - a bout that resulted in a lengthy hiatus for the Notorious one due to a broken leg sustained in the opening round. But it seems McGregor is gearing up for a spectacular comeback to the fight scene, as he was caught on camera demonstrating his quick hands and formidable power under the shining sun. A throng of onlookers gathered to witness the Dubliner unleash a flurry of punches, culminating in a wave of cheers and applause as he concluded his session. McGregor also shared video clips showing his fiancée, Dee Devlin, and their children in attendance at the impromptu showcase. In other clips, McGregor is seen wrapping his hands beneath a parasol, sporting wraps with a dollar bill motif, while saying: "Money in the till, baby. Money in the till," with a chuckle. McGregor was originally slated for a UFC comeback last June against Michael Chandler following their intense stint as rival coaches on season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter. However, he withdrew from the bout in its build-up due to a broken toe, reports Dublin Live. While McGregor seems to be chomping at the bit to make his return to the Octagon, UFC president Dana White and his team of matchmakers haven't yet pinned down a date or opponent for his comeback. Still, Chandler harbours hope that he'll be the one to roll out the welcome mat for the ex-featherweight and lightweight champ's return to the fray. Speaking to the Mirror back in November, the 39-year-old said: "I still believe Conor comes back at some point, and when he does, that road goes through Nashville, Tennessee, and Michael Chandler. We have to finish TUF 31, we have to get a fight poster that actually comes to fruition for a fight, we have to get a contract that actually comes to fruition for a fight but either way if the fight with Conor never happens, I am completely content - I wish him well. The MMA superstar was topless, donning red Versace shorts and puffing on a cigar as he made his grand entrance into the open-air club, playing up to the crowd. The snap that garnered attention from his 46.5 million followers featured him with a beaming Katie Price, alongside the caption: "@katieprice forever," - a photo which was re-shared by Price as she added: "You legend," clearly showing her admiration for the Irishman. McGregor, who of late seems to be throwing his weight behind promoting Bare Knuckle FC, has also stayed tuned into the UFC. Following Ilia Topuria's stunning first-round knockout victory over Charles Oliveira at the weekend, where he cinched the lightweight title previously held by McGregor, he took to X to write: "Congrats on winning my old titles, illia!". In the now-deleted post, he added: "He said he gonna rest his b**** on paddy['s] head too hahah fair play. Good LW scrap that one is as well imo. UFC is back?
