Hayley Williams Premieres 17 New Songs on Website Audio Player

Yahooa day ago
Hayley Williams is heading back to the days of desktop files and scattered downloads. The musician kicked off the week with a surprise release containing 17 new songs. The project plays through an audio player on her official website and is only accessible with a special code available by purchasing the latest drop from her haircare company, Good Dye Young.
'Check your inbox for an email from Good Dye Young,' the website landing page reads. 'If you don't have an email with a code, maybe ask a friend for theirs.' The drop, for a bold marigold yellow semi-permanent dye called 'Ego,' is limited to only 2,000 cartons signed by Williams and co-founders Brian O'Connor.

Beyond the walls of the access screen, the webpage is decorated with a yellow backdrop made up of a repeating image of Williams' goldendoodle dog, Alf, and peppered with MP3 files. The songs aren't arranged in any particular order, in true randomized audio file fashion. Among them appears 'Mirtazapine,' the single Williams premiered this past Tuesday night on the Nashville radio station WNXP.
The station posted the news on X along with a video of a CD that listed two song titles: 'Mirtazapine' and 'Glum,' which is also available on the site. Fans have already started reacting to the album on social media. 'If anyone could inject the new Hayley Williams songs into my veins rn I would be eternally grateful,' one fan wrote on X, where another added: 'Hayley Williams welcome to my AOTY club.'
Listeners in the exclusive bubble have already dubbed 'Kill Me' an 'eldest daughter anthem,' highlighting the fearless hook: 'Go ahead and kill me/Can't get much stronger/Find another solider.' Other favorites seemingly include 'Blood Bros,' 'Hard,' 'Dream Girl in Shibuya,' 'Love Me Different,' and 'True Believer.'
The cryptic drop marks the first lead solo release from Williams since sharing Flowers for Vases/Descansos in 2021. She recently lent vocals to Turnstile's 'Seein' Stars' from Never Enough and collaborated with Moses Sumney on 'I Like It I Like It' in May. In 2023, Paramore released their sixth album, This Is Why.
'Making This Is Why was not a comfortable experience for any of us. There was already anxiety about getting back in the groove of creating stuff together after some time apart,' Williams told Rolling Stone later that year. 'It's scary shit but, again, I think being able to sit with any type of discomfort is only going to teach you things. It's only going to grow you. That's the thing I'm most sure of.'

Apple TV claims huge viewership increase for Leagues Cup. Here are the details.

Apple TV has had a 100% viewership increase during the first week of the 2025 Leagues Cup tournament compared to last year, Leagues Cup executive director Thomas Mayo told USA TODAY Sports on Saturday, Aug. 2. Inter Miami's first match in the tournament against Atlas on July 30, which was Lionel Messi's first game after his MLS All-Star Game suspension and Rodrigo De Paul's debut with the club, became one of the top three most most-viewed matches on MLS Season Pass in 2025, Mayo added. FS1 and Univision have also claimed double-digit rating gains, with official numbers expected to be announced later this week. Social media impressions have also increased by 233%, according to the Leagues Cup executive. The format is catching on: While 93% of the matches are between Major League Soccer clubs and Mexican Liga MX teams from Mexico, the teams are competing to be among the top four from their respective leagues to reach the knockout stage. Matches tied at the end of regulation immediately go to penalty shootouts, adding thrilling finishes like Mazatlán's 11-10 win over Los Angeles FC to settle a 1-1 draw. Mayo credits the players' 'energy and excitement to win' as a major factor in the first week of viewership success. 'It boils down to a positive narrative of this rivalry between the two leagues, and we're seeing that come out strong in these four opening games,' Mayo said in a phone interview. 'This is a tough competition to win. The performance levels are high, and the fans and viewers are liking it.' The buy-in from players and coaches has also been significant, with Messi delivering a glowing compliment to the tournament's format change after he delivered the game-winning assist in Inter Miami's 2-1 win against Atlas. 'It's a nice test for us too, playing against Mexican teams. Now the format has changed, and honestly, it's more enjoyable and easier to play, right? And it's a nice competition,' Messi said in an Apple TV interview. 'Though we're playing against Mexican teams, the table is on our side, and we have to score more than the others. So, winning is very important.' Messi led Inter Miami to the first Leagues Cup title, shortly after his MLS arrival in 2023. He was injured and did not play in the 2024 Leagues Cup, won by the Columbus Crew. The first phase of the 2025 Leagues Cup group stage has provided some memorable moments. Reigning MLS Cup champions L.A. Galaxy beat Tijuana 5-2 on July 31. It was a big win for the Galaxy, who rank last in the MLS Supporter's Shield standings, while both Tijuana goals were scored by 16-year-old Mexican phenom Gilberto Mora. The Seattle Sounders, who played in the FIFA Club World Cup, dominated 7-0 against reigning Concacaf Champions Cup winners Cruz Azul on July 31. Pedro de la Vega finished with a brace, but his final goal of the match may be one of the best goals scored this year. 'I didn't actually know what I was going to say to them in the locker room because it was such a tremendous win for the club. In this club's history, it ranks right up there with all of the big wins that we've had,' Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer said after the match. FC Cincinnati, led by MVP candidate Evander, won 3-2 against Monterrey, a significant win against a side that played during the FIFA Club World Cup. 'We have the chance to win the Supporters' Shield, MLS Cup [and] we came with everything to win this Leagues Cup, and we are going to go for it,' Evander said. Phase One continues with Messi and Inter Miami facing Necaxa on MLS Season Pass, while Club America faces Minnesota on FS1/TUDN on Aug. 2. The final three gamedays for Phase One are Aug. 5, 6 and 7 — when the knockout stage will be decided. The Leagues Cup quarterfinals are Aug. 19-20, the semifinals on Aug. 26-27. The final and third-place match will be played on Aug. 31. The finalists and third-place winner will receive berths to compete in the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup — a pathway to the next Club World Cup in 2029. 'For some players, the Leagues Cup is their first international tournament and some teams could win their first international trophy,' Mayo said. 'People are starting to recognize that over the next 10-20 years of how important this will become as a cornerstone of not only global soccer, but for U.S. Soccer as well.'

Complete Unseen: New Doc on History of Newport Folk Festival Announced

For anyone who saw A Complete Unknown and wondered how close it resembled the actual Newport Folk Festival where Bob Dylan amped up his music, a new documentary will help answer that question. Among the many films just announced as part of the annual Venice Film Festival in September is Newport & the Great Folk Dream, which documents the legendary (and ongoing) festival in the pivotal folk-to-rock years between 1963 and 1966. The doc includes footage of Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band — some of it from the same 1965 festival where part of A Complete Unknown was set — alongside previously unseen live clips of blues, gospel and folk legends, including Dave Van Ronk, Pete Seeger, John Lee Hooker, Judy Collins, the Staple Singers, Bill Monroe, and many others. More from Rolling Stone Margo Price Pays Homage to Bob Dylan in 'Don't Wake Me Up' Video Willie Nelson's Outlaw Music Festival Tour Hits Pause After Extreme Weather Damages Gear How Many Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen Lyrics Can You Identify in This New York Writer's New Song? According to director (and writer and historian) Robert Gordon, Newport & the Great Folk Dream had already been completed before the release of A Complete Unknown, but he waited to gauge the reaction to that film first. 'I have to praise Timothée Chalamet and [director] James Mangold for expanding our audience tremendously,' Gordon tells Rolling Stone with a chuckle. 'A year ago, my friends' kids weren't really interested in Newport, and now they know all about it.' All the footage in Newport & the Great Folk Dream comes from the archives of the late documentarian Murray Lerner, who shot Newport for years. (His footage of the 1970 Isle of Wight festival has resulted in separate docs on performances there by Leonard Cohen, the Who, Jimi Hendrix, and others.) In 1967, Lerner released Festival!, a compilation of his footage from Newport between 1963 and 1966. According to Newport producer Joe Lauro, Lerner had planned to make an expanded Newport movie himself but died in 2017, by which time he'd sold his archive to Lauro's Historic Films company. Newport & the Great Folk Dream repeats only a few clips from Festival! Most of it consists of newly unearthed and restored footage, including Hooker romping through 'Boom Boom'; Joan Baez and Mary Travers of Peter, Paul and Mary singing the traditional 'Lonesome Valley'; Van Ronk doing the Reverend Gary Davis' 'Cocaine' (familiar to those who know Jackson Browne's Running on Empty); and the Staple Singers rocking out gospel with 'I Wish I Had Answered.' 'Festival! was about 95 minutes, and Murray shot about 100 hours, so an extraordinary amount of musicians and music were filmed,' says Lauro. 'It's the greatest archive of Americana music that's existed.' Although it wasn't entirely set at Newport, A Complete Unknown recreated some of its major moments during the years Dylan first played there. Newport & the Great Folk Dream allows us to see real-life- counterpart clips of Dylan and his band warming up for his going-electric moment, a different cut of his 'Maggie's Farm' that night, and performances by a gaunt-indeed Johnny Cash ('Big River') and Baez (Dylan's 'Don't Think Twice, It's All Right') from the same festivals in A Complete Unknown. One of the Mangold film's antagonists, folklorist and Newport overseer Alan Lomax, is seen and heard debating the idea of purity vs. commercialism in folk music. 'A Complete Unknown was great, but it was a Hollywood movie,' says Lauro. 'They had the fight with Lomax and [Dylan and Butterfield manager] Albert Grossman happening during 'Maggie's Farm.' It happened during Butterfield's set, so we set the story straight.' To further tie in A Complete Unknown with his doc, Gordon moved a clip of Cash to the beginning of the film. 'It worked out great, and it's a way to connect the two films,' he says. 'There's the thrill of seeing the Hollywood film come to life in a different way. There are a lot of the same tensions.' The Newport Folk Festival first launched in 1959 and soon became a destination for anyone wanting a full immersion into folk, country, bluegrass, gospel, and other vernacular genres, although rock and singer-songwriter music also crept in. This year's gathering — taking place this weekend in Newport, Rhode Island as always — was curated by Nathaniel Rateliff and is a vivid demonstration of how much the festival's scope has expanded. Its three days are scheduled to include sets by Luke Combs, MJ Lenderman, Jack Antonoff & Bleachers, Jeff Tweedy, Lukas Nelson, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Margo Price, Bonny Light Horseman, and both Geese and Goose (the latter joined by Kenny Loggins, of all people). Future release plans for Newport & the Great Folk Dream have not yet been finalized, but Gordon feels it will have a place in today's fractured world. 'We talk about diverse groups of people, but what we see here is an extremely concerted effort to represent songs from all kinds of lifestyles, work and play,' he says. 'I know this sounds corny, but the story is about harmony.'
