Hundreds attend latest annual speedway day at Coatbridge's Summerlee heritage museum
More than 500 revved-up visitors got in gear to celebrate the latest annual speedway day at Coatbridge's Summerlee heritage museum.
The weather was kind to organisers and guests, with a warm reception given to everyone.
Visitors were treated to a vintage display of bikes, including Weslakes and Godden models, as well as archive photos showcasing the area's speedway history.
Delighted event organiser John Houston told Lanarkshire Live: "There was a good selection of bikes, such as Weslakes, Godden, Japs and uprights.
"We also had photos, programmes, badges and memorabilia on show, while DVDs were broadcast outside in the gazebo.
"It was great to see Brian Collins, Bobby Beaton and Jim Beaton - three Tigers from 73-77.
"I would like to thank Brian Collins, Alex Weir, James Culbert, William Richardson and the Blackwood family for showing their bikes, as well as Stuart Coleman who brought speedway gear.
"My appreciation also goes to David MacDonald and the staff at Summerlee, and everyone who came along, for making it such a successful day."

Tigers open it up in extras to hand Guardians tenth straight loss
July 6 - Trey Sweeney and Riley Greene each belted homers in the 10th inning and Tarik Skubal threw seven innings of three-hit, shutout ball to help the Detroit Tigers hand the host Cleveland Guardians their 10th straight loss, 7-2 on Sunday. It is the first time the Tigers have swept the Guardians in Cleveland since April 10-12, 2015. Skubal struck out 10 while allowing only three hits and no runs. In his last four starts against division opponents, he has struck out 43, allowed eight hits and one walk, and no runs. Chase Lee (4-0) pitched 1 2/3 innings and gave up only one hit and struck out one. Steven Kwan had three hits and drove in two runs for the Guardians, who have lost their most consecutive games since dropping 11 straight from July 27-Aug. 7, 2012. It is also the first time they have been swept in three straight series since that same period. Cleveland took a 1-0 lead in the eighth when Kwan doubled to right field to score pinch-runner Daniel Schneemann from second base. The Tigers tied the game in the ninth when Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase threw a wild pitch that allowed Zach McKinstry to score from third base. Cleveland had a chance to win the game in the bottom half of the inning with Angel Martinez on third base, but Schneemann's line drive was caught by Javier Baez. Sweeney gave the Tigers a 4-1 lead with his three-run homer that scored Baez and Parker Meadows. Matt Vierling later followed with a double that scored Gleyber Torres. Greene then broke an 0-for-22 hitless streak against Cleveland with his 22nd home run of the season to bring home Vierling. Kwan's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th scored Schneemann for the Guardians' other run. Guardians starter Gavin Williams struck out eight and allowed one hit and no runs over six innings. Cade Smith (2-3) opened the 10th inning and allowed six runs on five hits. --Field Level Media

Casey Mize shines as AL-leading Tigers edge Guardians
July 6 - Spencer Torkelson hit a solo home run and Casey Mize pitched seven dominant innings in a combined four-hitter as the visiting Detroit Tigers edged the Cleveland Guardians 1-0 on Saturday night. Torkelson went deep in the second inning against Logan Allen (5-7), sending his 20th homer of the year onto the shelf in right field. American League-leading Detroit has won five of its last seven games and is 12 1/2 ahead of second-place Minnesota in the AL Central. Mize (9-2) scattered four hits over a season-high 102 pitches, one short of his career high. The right-hander walked two and struck out four while not allowing a runner to reach third base. Brant Hurter pitched a 1-2-3 eighth and Tommy Kahnle allowed a two-out walk to Daniel Schneemann in the ninth before striking out Kyle Manzardo for his ninth save. The Guardians dropped their ninth in a row, matching their longest losing streak since a nine-gamer in 2021. Cleveland has been outscored 41-13 during the skid, being shut out five times and held to less than three runs in seven of the games. Torkelson had both Tigers hits against four Guardians pitchers, coming within five feet of another homer in the fourth after sending a ball high off the wall in left for a long single. Allen worked six innings, giving up one run on two hits. The left-hander struck out five and walked two but lost his third straight start -- all at home, where the Guardians were booed throughout the evening. Tigers All-Star second baseman Gleyber Torres exited the game with a bruised neck after an inning-ending collision with the elbow of Cleveland's Brayan Rocchio in the first. Torres was running toward second on a grounder hit by teammate Riley Greene when Rocchio received an off-target throw from second baseman Angel Martinez. Rocchio caught the ball, but his elbow struck Torres on the face as he slid short of the bag. He remained prone on the dirt for several minutes before leaving the field. --Field Level Media

Cleveland Guardians manager scolds assistant for pulling prank while watching team lose eighth game in a row
The pressure of his team's disastrous run seems to finally be getting the better of Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt. TV cameras caught an extremely tense exchange with his associate manager Craig Albernaz on Friday. During Cleveland's 2-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers, which extended their losing streak to eight games, Albernaz tried to lighten the mood in the dugout by tossing sunflower seeds at Vogt. But rather than laugh it off, Vogt seemed furious. He looked down, muttered something to Albernaz and shook his head without ever making eye contact with his colleague. It looked as though Albernaz believed Vogt was joking initially. But when it quickly became apparent that he wasn't, Albernaz's facial expression quickly changed and he directed his gaze back towards the game. It is no surprise tensions in the camp are high, given the fact the Guardians were battling the Tigers for top spot in the AL Central not long ago. They are now 13.5 games back in the division. Fortunately, the Guardians have another chance to end their terrible run of form when they play the Tigers again at Progressive Field on Saturday. To compound their misery, pitcher Luis Ortiz was placed on leave this week due to an MLB betting investigation. The investigation is related to in-game prop bets on two pitches thrown by Ortiz that received higher activity than usual during his starts at Seattle on June 15 and his recent outing against St. Louis on June 27. The gambling activity on the pitches was flagged by a betting-integrity firm and forwarded to MLB.
