Pune: Chandannagar police on Wednesday detained three men from Rajegaon in Beed district and rescued a 30-year-old sugarcane farm worker.
Two of the three men allegedly abducted the farm worker around 8am on June 30.
When the worker did not return home late that night, his wife (25) contacted all her relatives to enquire about her husband.
No one knew where her husband was. Further inquiry revealed that two men abducted him and took him to Rajegaon in Beed district.
Senior inspector Seema Dhakane of Chandannagar police told TOI, "The victim is a sugarcane farm worker. He took an advance payment of Rs2 lakh last year from a labour contractor, who provides farm workers in Solapur and other districts."

"Last year, before Diwali, the victim worked at a farm for 15 days and left without informing anyone. He did not return the money," Dhakane said. "The labour contractor and others were searching for the worker to recover their money. They came to Pune and halted at Chandannagar. Coincidently, the victim just came in front of them and they took him into a car to Beed to recover money," she said.
"Our team studied the CCTV footage of the spot and identified the registration number of the vehicle. It led us to Rajegaon," she said.

Before father shot tennis player, a bitter 15 days, threat of shooting & a mind poisoned

Gurgaon: The investigation into the murder of a 25-year-old former international tennis player, allegedly by her father, has revealed a sudden deterioration in their relationship. The apparent reason was a disagreement over the academy she ran near their house, but the roots clearly run deeper, with the father telling interrogators he was troubled by questions about her daughter's "character" that some of his associates had raised. Deepak Yadav, who shot Radhika at their Sector 57 house on Thursday morning, killing her on the spot, had allegedly been insisting for two weeks on her closing the tennis academy, even offering to compensate her for the financial losses. She refused. Three days before the shooting, there was another bust-up during which Deepak threatened to shoot himself or her if she did not do as he said, police officials said. She refused again. You Can Also Check: Gurgaon AQI | Weather in Gurgaon | Bank Holidays in Gurgaon | Public Holidays in Gurgaon What has become increasingly clear is the chasm – between the father who claims to have spent Rs 2 crore on grooming his daughter as a tennis player, even accompanying her for training and tournaments, and the father so poisoned by "taunts" he claims to have faced because of Radhika's academy, his own ego and insecurities, and suspicions about her that grew in his mind that he would turn the gun on the same daughter. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Illinois: Gov Will Cover Your Cost To Install Solar If You Live In These Zips SunValue Learn More Undo Vinod Kumar, SHO of Sector 56 police station and investigating officer in the case, told TOI on Friday Deepak (49) appeared to be eccentric and temperamental. "He has psychological issues. He claims to have been subjected to taunts from associates in Wazirabad village near his house for allowing his daughter to run an academy and using her money. He tends to nurse grudges. He would believe anyone and fight with family members. There was no other motive for her murder but his desire to discontinue the academy," Kumar said. Sources said Deepak visited relatives at Kasan in Manesar 15 days ago. On his return, his spat with Radhika blew up. A source involved in the investigation said Radhika's mother Manju, who is indisposed, had told police Deepak doubted everyone. "She told us that after they got married, he had objected to her interactions with a close male relative, after which she did not speak to him for a long time. However, Deepak supported Radhika's dream of playing tennis wholeheartedly," the source said. The supportive father that those close to the family and Radhika's tennis circle knew Deepak as was also by her side when Radhika acted in a music video, which was released last year. During the shoot in 2023, both Deepak and Manju were present at the location, police sources said, ruling out any connection between the video and the murder. Police will, however, seek access to her deleted Instagram account for further leads into the probe. Radhika is believed to have deleted the account around a month ago. Raj Kumar, a maternal cousin of Deepak, expressed disbelief about the shooting and its apparent trigger – differences over Radhika's academy. "He had supported her career for years and invested a lot in it," said Raj Kumar, who was among relatives who gathered at the house on Friday to meet Radhika's mother and other family members. Dharam Singh, another relative, said, "He loved his daughter a lot. When we met at family gatherings, he always said that his daughter would be a tennis star one day. I am shocked that he killed her after doing so much for her." The autopsy report revealed Radhika was shot not three but four times by Deepak. According to the report, all the shots were fired from behind, striking her upper torso, specifically the chest area. "Entry wounds indicated deep penetration, causing extensive internal damage. Bullets passed through her lungs and pierced her heart, leading to rapid and massive internal bleeding. Medical examiners concluded she died within minutes of being shot due to catastrophic and irreversible damage to vital organs," the report said. In his statement, Deepak claimed to have shot Radhika three times. A source involved in the probe said it indicated the killer's state of mind and likely a rage so intense he was not even sure how many shots he had fired at her. After the autopsy, Radhika's body was handed over to the family and cremated on Friday evening. Deepak was produced before a local court, which granted police a day's remand. Police are likely to take Deepak to Kasan on Saturday. According to the FIR, Deepak told police Radhika had won several trophies in her tennis career but had recently suffered a shoulder injury, preventing her from playing and leading her to start the academy. "When I visited Wazirabad village to buy milk, people taunted me for enjoying my daughter's earnings and questioned her character. I asked my daughter to shut her academy, but she refused. I felt hurt and insulted and kept thinking about it for days. In fury, I took out my revolver and shot her three times in the back while she was preparing food, killing her," the FIR, quoting Deepak, says. It adds that while Deepak's son Dheeraj was at work, Manju was resting in a room at the time of the shooting. Deepak's brother Kuldeep, who lives on the ground floor of House No. G-156, Sushant Lok-II, Sector 57, along with his wife, son and daughter, was the one who filed the police complaint. He reported hearing a bang around 10.30am and found Radhika unconscious in the kitchen and Deepak's revolver in the living room. They rushed her to Asia Maringo Hospital in Sector 56, where doctors declared her dead. "My brother killed his daughter," the FIR states, quoting Kuldeep. The forensics team found five bullet shells at the scene and a live cartridge in the gun.

Wife waited all night on flooded rd, man found dead in sewer next day

Gurgaon: On the night of July 9, knee-deep in rainwater that had flooded the city and derailed traffic, Shailendra's pregnant wife waited for him outside their house to return. She'd last spoken to him at 8.19pm, when he told her he was dropping off a passenger and would be home soon. Around 9pm, she called again. He didn't answer. "I made 200 calls after that. He usually returns by 10pm," 21-year-old Sumanlata, who is expecting another child, said. They waited. By 3am, anxiety turned into fear, and Babulal approached police to report Shailendra missing. It was only the next morning, around 7am, when some delivery executives passing by found Shailendra's body inside an open sewer in Sector 47. Trying to navigate the waterlogged street next to Sispal Vihar on Wednesday night, the 27-year-old's autorickshaw ran into the open manhole, where the vehicle overturned and he fell inside. Bystanders took Shailendra to Park Hospital, but it was too late by then. Shailendra, his wife said, came to Gurgaon from his hometown in UP's Kannauj five years ago. Here, he'd settled with his family in Sector 9 and earned a stable income. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like So sánh mức trượt giá: Hợp đồng tương lai (CFD) Bitcoin vs Ethereum IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo "I have lost everything in this city. I will have to move back to my hometown. What will I do here alone," Sumanlata said on Friday. Just a few kilometres away, in another part of the city, a 25-year-old graphic designer was electrocuted the same night. Akshat Jain was on his way back home in Sector 49 from a gym when he waded into a flooded road in Ghasola village. Trying to balance his bike, the graphic designer accidentally touched a live wire dangling into the water and died on the spot. A witness, another biker who was behind Jain, said he felt a "strange tingling" on his feet. "I was close to the divider. Just as I felt the tingling, the rider in front of me collapsed and started shaking violently. I was barely an arm's distance from him. Instinctively, I moved my bike away. People started gathering, but no one could muster the courage to touch him. Even I froze," the biker said. In both incidents, the families registered complaints for death by negligence. Asked about progress in the investigation, a police officer told TOI that the concerned departments have been issued show-cause notices. "Further probe is underway," he added.

Mys marriage halls must verify age of bride and groom before allowing bookings

Mysuru: In its attempt to tighten the screw on incidents of child marriage, the district administration of Mysuru has now made it mandatory for wedding venues to verify the age of the prospective newlyweds before confirming bookings. Decorators and owners of presses involved in the printing of wedding invitation cards have been instructed to collect certificates in support of the age of would-be brides and grooms compulsorily. Managements of churches, mosques, temples, and other prayer halls where marriage ceremonies take place have also been told to ensure no incidents of child marriage are allowed on their premises or in the vicinity. Authorities in Mysuru have succeeded in preventing 224 attempted incidents of child marriage in 2024-25, with the offenders in another 60 cases brought to book in what happens to be the home district of chief minister Siddaramaiah. Mysuru DC Lakshmikanth G Reddy has issued orders to curb the practice, stating that the district administration will cancel the licence of violators, impose a penalty of Rs 1 lakh, and book them under the Child Marriage Prevention Act, 2006. Among the 284 cases registered in 2024-25, the highest number of child marriages were reported from the talukas of K R Nagar, H D Kote, Periyapatna, and Saragur. Interestingly, 18 minor girls voluntarily alerted the authorities about their impending marriages after they obtained the child helpline number from the district office. Apart from these measures, the district administration has also directed both district-level and taluka-level officials, the district children protection committee, and other agencies involved in children's welfare to regularly conduct review meetings, workshops, seminars, and other awareness drives to eradicate child marriage. Round-the-clock children's helpline number 1098/112 has also been equipped to handle distress calls from children and initiate swift countermeasures. Speaking to TOI, N T Yogesh, the district children protection officer said the department is distributing handbills in villages and through its anganawadi centres, highlighting the ill-effects of child marriage. Officials are keeping a hawk eye on such activities that usually see a spike around festive occasions.
