Monmouthshire Council nature recovery plans approved
The plans aim to reverse biodiversity decline, build ecosystem resilience, and encourage sustainable land use across the county.
Cllr Catrin Maby, cabinet member for climate change and the environment, said: "The process we followed to develop these strategies highlighted the importance of collective action in addressing the climate emergency.
"The council will now begin implementing the strategies, developing detailed action plans, and collaborating with partners such as the Gwent Green Grid Partnership, Living Levels Partnership, and Wye Valley National Landscape."
The NRAP adapts national and regional objectives into practical local actions for communities and nature sites.
The GI Strategy outlines the council's approach to improving biodiversity, ecosystem resilience, and health and wellbeing through green infrastructure.
Both strategies were shaped by extensive public consultation, including a campaign launched at the Usk Show in autumn 2024.
Monmouthshire County Council is also celebrating Wales Nature Week from July 5 to July 13 with events countywide.
The events are listed on the council website.

Armed Forces Day at Caldicot Castle and Country Park
More than 7,000 people gathered at Caldicot Castle and Country Park on Saturday, June 28, for Wales' National Armed Forces Day in honour of servicemen and women, past and present. Councillor Peter Strong, chair and armed forces champion at Monmouthshire County Council, said: "What a wonderful day at Caldicot Castle and Country Park. "Seeing so many people in attendance to show their support for our Armed Forces community highlights the high esteem that people have for serving personnel, veterans, reservists, cadets, and their families." The event featured a Spitfire flypast, a cadet and veterans parade, and a full programme of musical performances. It was also where the Armed Forces Covenant was re-signed by the council. Councillor Mary Ann Brocklesby, leader of Monmouthshire County Council, said: "It was a privilege to re-sign the Covenant at the Armed Forces Day event."

LOOK: Photos from the Caldicot Castle Armed Forces Day 2025
The free event, hosted by Monmouthshire County Council, saw a large turnout on June 28, 2025. Visitors were treated to a thrilling performance by the renowned RAF Falcons parachute display team. The Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial Flight also conducted a fly-past. In addition to the aerial displays, local cadets took part in a large parade. Military bands played to the crowds and an official ceremony with exhibitions and demonstrations took place. Representatives from the Armed Forces and Blue Light Services, including Gwent Police and the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, were also present. The event, supported by organisations including Caldicot Town Council and the Welsh Government, aimed to honour the Armed Forces community while providing an educational and entertaining day out.
