Buzzy New Thai Restaurant Lands in Heart of Hong Kong: Review

A new Thai hotspot has emerged at the edge of Central and Sheung Wan, providing an alternative to Samsen with its simple, yet creative menu and laid-back atmosphere.
The venue is the sister restaurant to Trattoria Felino, the Italian spot in Wan Chai that established itself as one of the city's hardest places to book since its debut in 2023. Mama Tiger Noodles, located at the quiet Kau U Fong Street, is helmed by chef Thanit Changchai, the former head of boat noodle chain ThongSmith.

Isao Takahata Exhibition In Tokyo Is Both Poignant And Fascinating

The legendary Isao Takahata finally has a comprehensive exhibition of his work in anime, and it is both poignant as it is fascinating. Takahata was one of the co-founders of Studio Ghibli, along with Hayao Miyazaki, with whom he often collaborated. While Takahata sadly died in 2018, his work is very much with us, as this exhibition shows. Much of Ghibli's early output was cemented through Takahata's involvement and steady hand. He was a producer on both Nausicaä and Laputa, and his expertise is also very much present in the pre-Ghibli but still amazing Future Boy Conan. Being a very talented director and screenwriter in his own right, Takahata would also mark out his own career in anime. For many, though, it's his 1988 film, Grave of the Fireflies, that many really know him for. Dealing with the horrific reality of children attempting to survive the Second World War in Japan, it's a truly harrowing tale. Isao Takahata is a legendary figure in anime. So, this exhibition has an enormous amount of ground to cover, which it does with respectful thoroughness. From how Takahata started out in anime, to his work on early famous anime movies and popular TV shows, you really get to see how diligent and capable Takahata really was at managing these productions. FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder From Heidi to Anne of Green Gables, Takahata cemented himself as a genuinely wholesome and thoughtful anime director. I also feel that, along with Yoshiyuki Tomino, Takahata's contribution to Future Boy Conan is what makes it so remarkable. So, if you're in Tokyo and want to pay your respects to Takahata's impressive body of work, this exhibition comes very much recommended. The Isao Takahata Exhibition is now open to the public at the Azabudai Hills Gallery in Tokyo. Tickets start at 2,000 yen (or around $14 at the current exchange rate) and it will run until September 15. Fans bid teary farewell to four giant pandas at a zoo in Japan before their return to China

SHIRAHAMA, Japan (AP) — Thousands of fans bid a teary farewell Friday to a family of four giant pandas at a zoo in Japan's coastal town of Shirahama as the animals made their last public appearance before their return to China. Around 3,000 visitors flocked to the Adventure World theme park to get a last glimpse of the beloved animals. Many rushed straight to the panda exhibit zone, calling out the names of their favorites. Although the 24-year-old mother Rauhin and her three daughters — Yuihin, Saihin and Fuhin — were all born and raised at the park, they remain on loan from China and must now be returned. Once they return to China, Xiao Xiao and Lei Lei at Tokyo's Ueno Zoo will be the only pandas left in Japan. More than 1,000 people, many wearing panda-themed attire, queued outside the entrance of the theme park hours before it opened while some camped outside the night before. Some people wiped off tears while viewing throwback images of the pandas when they were cubs. Yoshihiko Fukuzumi recalls the arrival of the first two pandas at the park 30 years ago and has watch their family grow. Since retiring three years ago, he and his wife have visited them nearly everyweek. 'To us, they are like our grandchildren." Giant pandas are native to southwestern China and serve as an unofficial national mascot. Beijing lends them to other countries as a sign of goodwill but maintains ownership over them and any cubs they produce. Born in 2000, Rauhin had seven other cubs with Eimei, a male panda sent from China in 1994. Eimei returned home two years ago and has since died. Despite strained political ties between Japan and China, giant pandas are hugely popular in Japan. 'We feel comforted just by looking at pandas,' said zoo director Koji Imazu. Imazu said the departure of the four pandas marks the end of the zoo's 30-year joint project with China. He thanked Chinese specialists for sharing their expertise with the Japanese staff and said the zoo will be ready for a new arrival at any time. 'Of course we all miss them, but I hope you could send them off with a cheerful wave and wish them well in China,' Imazu said. In Beijing, China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said giant pandas are 'friendly ambassadors" conveying the goodwill of the Chinese people. Guo said that China and Japan have collaborated on panda conservation and research since 2000, and that China is ready to further strengthen international cooperation, including with Japan. Rauhin and her daughters will be flown to China on Saturday where they will join other pandas at a facility in Sichuan province near their original habitat. There, the three young ones will find partners. 'I still can't believe they're all leaving,' said Junko Ikeda, a Fuhin fan from neighboring Nara prefecture who spent Thursday night in her camper van for the send-off. "I hope she finds a partner, becomes a mother and lives a happy life.'

Akira: Taika Waititi's Live-Action Movie Gets Disappointing Update

Taika Waititi's live-action movie has received a disappointing update courtesy of a new report from THR. According to a new report from THR, the Akira live-action movie at Warner Bros. Discovery is officially not happening. The movie studio has reportedly let go of the movie rights, reverting them back to Kodansha, the manga publisher that originally released Katsuhiro Otomo's story in 1982. THR's report mentions that producers and other talent have already begun 'lining up' to try and attach themselves to the property for future pitches. As for Waititi's long-in-development movie, this means the project is likely fully over with. Akira's movie development has been a long and extremely complicated one. Warner Bros. picked up the rights to the incredibly popular manga in 2002, and originally had Stephen Norrington (Blade) attached as a director. That began two decades of what THR describes as development hell, with writers and directors like Garry Whitta, Mark Fergus, Hawk Otsby, Steve Kloves, and more all attached at one point or another. In 2017, Waititi was announced to be writing and directing a movie based on the manga. This project even received a 2021 release date and was in the process of casting, according to THR. However, Waititi became too busy with other projects, and never recommitted to the project. Originally released in 1982, Akira tells the story of a post-apocalyptic and futuristic 'Neo-Tokyo,' and centers on Shotaro Kaneda, a gang leader, the militant revolutionary Kei, and more. The manga received an animated film in 1988, which is often heralded as one of the greatest films ever made and something that helped make anime as a whole a pop culture staple, although it does deviate heavily from the source material.
