Top-of-the-table showdown as Kuwait Club faces Burgan
Today's fixtures feature two postponed matches, which will continue until next Saturday. Burgan faces Kuwait Club at 9:00 pm, followed by Al-Arabi clashing with Kazma at 10:30 pm.
Burgan currently leads the league standings with 17 points, followed closely by Kuwait Club with 16 points. Al-Salmiya and Al-Arabi each have 14 points, while Kazma has 13. Al-Qurain, Al-Sulaibikhat, and Al-Qadsiya each have 12 points. Al-Nasr follows with 10 points, followed by Khaitan and Al-Fahaheel with 8 points. Yarmouk holds 2 points, Al-Tadamon has 1 point, and Al-Sahel remains at the bottom with no points.
The handball league resumed after an 85-day hiatus, during which the national team participated in the World Cup and finished in 27th place. Additionally, Kuwait participated in the 41st Gulf Cup Winners' Cup, securing second place behind Qatar's Al-Arabi.
Al-Arabi aims to climb to third place, while Kazma shares the same ambition. The most anticipated match of the day is between league leader Burgan and second-placed KuwaitClub, a key battle that could shake up the standings.
Kuwait Club, led by national coach Haitham Al-Rashidi, enters the match well-prepared after its Gulf Championship campaign and an external training camp in Qatar. The team's victory over Al-Sahel adds to its momentum as it looks ahead to two relatively easier postponed matches against Yarmouk and Khaitan.
Meanwhile, Burgan, under the guidance of national coach Hussein Habib, is determined to maintain its lead. Having played 10 matches, Burgan has secured eight wins, one draw, and one loss, marking its longest stint at the top of the standings.

Yarmouk rebuilds with new foreign signings
KUWAIT CITY, July 3: Yarmouk reinforced its squad with the signings of Malian players Moriba Dialle and Reuben Akwa, as part of its ongoing preparations for the Zain First Division League, which kicks off on September 14. Following a difficult season that saw Yarmouk finish 10th and last in the Premier League standings, the club is focused on rebuilding with strong talent to secure a swift return to the top flight. The club recently secured the services of former Al-Salmiya player Othman Al-Dosari and has now added further international experience with the acquisitions of Dialle and Akwa. The 29-year-old Dialle, who plays as a defender, brings valuable experience from his time with ES Sétif in Algeria, where he spent three seasons. He also previously featured for Stade Malien, one of Mali's top clubs. Akwa, born in 1996, is a versatile midfielder known for his attacking style. He played a key role for Duhok SC in Iraq last season, helping the club win the Gulf Champions League title after defeating Al-Qadsiya with a 2-1 away win (following a 1-1 draw in the first leg). His diverse experience includes stints with Dunajska Streda (Slovakia), Hartberg and Ried (Austria), Lokomotiva (Croatia), and Teuta Durres (Albania). Under the guidance of Dhaher Al-Adwani, who took charge last December following the departure of Serbian manager Goran Matkovic, Yarmouk is actively strengthening key positions. The goal is clear: to build a competitive side capable of delivering strong results and earning promotion back to the Premier League. As part of the restructuring, Yarmouk opted not to renew the contracts of its five foreign players: Mario Pietro (Italy) Ayoub Lakhdar and Habib Dahmani (Morocco) Kayali Kone (Ivory Coast) Reza Dost (Iran) The club's recruitment strategy reflects a determined push to rise again in Kuwaiti football. Al-Sharifi replaces injured Falah in Kuwait U-23 squad
KUWAIT CITY, July 3: Kuwait Olympic team coach, Croatian Dario Pesic, has called up Al-Qadsiya player Mohammed Al-Sharifi to replace Mohsen Falah, who sustained an injury during recent training sessions. The team continued its daily preparations at the auxiliary field of Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium, in anticipation of the AFC U-23 Championship qualifiers, scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia in January 2026. The team is set to hold its final training session in Kuwait next Sunday before departing for a training camp in Cairo the following day. The camp will feature three friendly matches, including two confirmed fixtures against Egypt on July 17 and 20. Discussions are ongoing to finalize a third match. Kuwait has been drawn into Group B for the AFC U-23 qualifiers alongside Japan, Afghanistan, and Myanmar, with Myanmar designated as the host nation for the group matches from September 1 to 9. According to the tournament format, the top team from each of the ten qualifying groups, along with the five best second-placed teams, will advance to the finals. They will join host nation Saudi Arabia to complete a 16-team lineup, which will be split into four groups for the final tournament. Following the Cairo camp, the Blues will continue their training to maintain momentum and fine-tune their readiness. The team is scheduled to arrive in Myanmar one week before the qualifiers begin, to acclimate to the local weather conditions. Team manager Al-Ateeqi expressed confidence in the squad, emphasizing the players' understanding of the responsibility they carry. "Our ambition is clear — to qualify for the final tournament. I believe in the capabilities of our players and trust they will rise to the occasion," he said. Meanwhile, Kuwait's youth and junior national teams have also begun early preparations, launching training sessions at Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium's auxiliary field earlier this week. The Kuwait Football Association's Technical Committee stressed the importance of starting training early to ensure full readiness ahead of upcoming Gulf, Arab, regional, and continental competitions.
