KDN FC need RM7 million for new M-League season
KDN FC president Rozi Muhamad said the amount is based on the advice and guidelines set by the Malaysian Football League (MFL), following the financial management challenges faced by the team last season.
He added that a restructuring process has been carried out involving officials and players to strengthen the team while a new management team has been established, consisting of individuals based on their vast experience in various fields, to ensure the club is better prepared for the upcoming season.
Rozi also announced that KDN FC has forged strategic collaborations with several parties, including sponsors and the state government, to ensure the club remain competitive.
'The club is actively addressing the licensing requirements as stipulated by the MFL and the First Instance Body (FIB), with 90 per cent of the process now completed,' he told reporters after the KDN FC Appreciation Night Dinner with sponsors and strategic partners here yesterday.
In addition, corporate figure Datuk Mohd Irwan Rizal Ali Napiah has also been appointed as the chief executive officer of KDN FC.

No plans to review tax relief for insurance policies
THERE is no intention to review the tax relief amounts for personal and life insurance policies, even as the government is continuously improving the income tax reliefs eligible for individual taxpayers through a targeted approach and special reliefs, says Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. 'Through Budgets 2023, 2024 and 2025, a targeted approach has been implemented by increasing the tax relief amounts for medical treatment expenses, child care allowances, persons with disabilities, and education and medical insurance. 'Besides increasing the eligible tax relief amounts, the government, through Budget 2025, has also expanded the scope of existing tax reliefs, such as extending care and treatment for parents to include grandparents and broadening the scope of health screenings to include the purchase of self-examination health equipment and fees for disease detection tests,' he said in a written parliamentary reply. Earlier, Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (BN-Ayer Hitam) had asked the Finance Ministry whether it will review the reliefs associated with personal and life insurances that remained at RM9,000 and RM3,000, respectively, for the past 15 years. Dr Wee, who is also MCA president, said the tax relief amount did not reflect the effects of inflation and the current cost of living. Anwar also said the government introduced special reliefs for specific purposes under Budget 2025. This included relief on interest payments for housing loans for the purchase of the first residential home. 'Through this relief, the purchase of a home priced up to RM500,000 qualifies for a tax relief of up to RM7,000, while a tax relief of up to RM5,000 can be claimed for the purchase of a residential home priced between RM500,001 and RM750,000,' he added. Anwar also said other improvements to tax reliefs for individuals include reducing the tax rate by 2 percentage points for the taxable income range between RM35,001 and RM100,000 starting from the assessment year 2023. 'This tax rate reduction can provide an additional disposable income of up to RM1,300 per year for about 2.4 million taxpayers, including the middle-income group. 'In addition, the government is committed to improving tax administration and services to enhance efficiency and service levels for taxpayers,' he said. Anwar also said that any future reviews or revisions to income tax rates or individual tax reliefs need to be conducted carefully to avoid jeopardising the country's fiscal position, adding that any changes in tax policy must also align with international taxation practices and not adversely affect the country's global commitments.

MFL Cup to remain on hold despite growing calls for its return
PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Football League (MFL) have confirmed that the MFL Cup will remain on hold for the upcoming season despite growing calls for the return of the competition as a development platform for young talent. The alarm comes in the wake of Malaysia's early exit from the AFF Under-23 Championship in Indonesia, which reignited concerns over the lack of competitive minutes available for youth players in the Super League - especially with the influx of senior and foreign players. However, MFL interim chief executive officer Shazly Shaik ( pic ) said the suspension of the MFL Cup was a calculated move to push clubs to integrate young players directly into the senior set-up. 'For the time being, there are no plans to bring back the MFL Cup,' said Shazly. 'We shut down the tournament to ensure these young players are given opportunities in the Super League, where the level of competition will accelerate their growth. 'Previously, we were among the leagues with the oldest average age, partly because youth players were restricted to age-group competitions. ''This change gives us a clearer picture of who's ready to step up.' Player registrations for the 2024-2025 season are still ongoing for several clubs, and Shazly said the MFL will monitor how teams utilise their youth talent before determining if any new development initiatives are needed later in the season. Another key update from the MFL is the continued roll-out of Remote VAR (Video Assistant Referee) technology, especially in Borneo. Instead of setting up multiple facilities, a centralised data centre in Kuala Lumpur will handle all VAR operations, including those for matches hosted by teams in East Malaysia. A team of broadcast and VAR specialists will travel to Brunei from Aug 1- 3 to assess signal strength and readiness. Brunei is participating in the Super League this season as a guest team, alongside Sabah and Kuching City, who finished third and fourth respectively last year. Financial concerns remain a hot topic, particularly with Kelantan, who have made headlines over unsettled dues. Shazly confirmed that the MFL are in regular communication with the club's management, but no formal report has been received yet.

Three super league teams must propose alternative venues for Ramadan matches
THREE Super League teams—Kelantan Darul Naim (KDN) FC, DPMM FC, and Imigresen FC—have been instructed to propose alternative venues for their home matches during Ramadan. The Malaysian Football League (MFL) has set a deadline of August 15 for submissions. Acting MFL CEO Mohd Shazli Shaik Mohd explained that the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium (KDN FC) and Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium (DPMM FC) are unavailable during Ramadan. Meanwhile, Imigresen FC's Batu Kawan State Stadium lacks night-match suitability. 'We have informed these three teams to name alternative venues so that we can schedule matches for the month of Ramadan,' said Mohd Shazli after the MFL and Genius Sports partnership announcement at Wisma FAM. He discouraged scheduling away matches for these teams, stressing the importance of maintaining home-and-away fixtures.
