Apple iPhone 16e Prices Cut As Major New Sale Starts
Launched in Feb 2025, the iPhone 16e is Apple's entry-level model and replaced the long-established iPhone SE brand. While the 'e' echoed the branding of the entry-level iPhone, the '16' signified that this was part of the main line of iOS-powered smartphones with the potential of an annual update.
The iPhone 16e Price Rise
It also came with a higher price—$599 in the US and £599 here in the UK—that was some £100 more than the expected £499 price tag and significantly higher than the SE's final price of £429, although the later was with a smaller storage option.
That price is set to return for a short period, thanks to Amazon.
Amazon's iPhone 16e Special Offer
The upcoming Prime Day sales will feature the 128 GB version of the iPhone 16e on sale for £494, representing a discount of more than £100 off the list price in the Apple Store. It may not match the £419 launch price of the iPhone SE in 2022, although that SE price was for the model with 64 GB of storage. The 128 GB storage model was £469, and is the closest comparison to the iPhone 16e.
If you are looking for more storage, the 256 GB model is available for £594 down from $699, and 512 GB for £794 down from £899. As a Prime Day deal, you will need to be an Amazon Prime subscriber to access the sale price, which itself is valid until midnight on Friday, July 11.
iPhone 16e Advantages
The iPhone 16e offers many advantages over the previous iPhone SE. The key difference is the use of the A18 Apple Silicon chipset. This matches the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, and allows the full suite of Apple Intelligence tools to be used. Face ID is also introduced at this price point, alongside a new design with a USB-C port and a larger display.
While Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max in September, a potential iPhone 17e would likely wait until Q1 2026 before going on sale. If you're looking for one of the iPhone e models, this is an offer worth considering.

Apple has acquired Israeli startup TrueMeeting, a firm engaged in developing digital avatar technology for video calls and augmented reality. Proton VPN announces a big summer update – with even more new features on the horizon
Proton VPN has announced a host of new updates for its VPN app. Some features are live now, with others coming later in 2025 and into 2026. The privacy-focused provider is one of the best VPNs out there and has released some significant updates in recent months – including a major UI redesign. You can read about these in our Proton VPN review. Improvements to NetShield, Proton VPN's threat protection offering, are live now. Speed boosts and over 3,000 new servers are also ready to be used. Proton VPN's summer check-in details what else users can look forward to. The start of summer saw a much-needed focus on NetShield. The feature, which also prevents ads and trackers, is now said to block "almost all known phishing domains" and minimizes false positives. Historically, NetShield hasn't been as effective as NordVPN's Threat Protection Pro. We'll see if this is still the case when we get round to testing Proton VPN's updated offering. Proton VPN's VPN Accelerator can now detect changes to your network conditions and configurations. It will automatically reconfigure these settings to ensure you can browse without buffering. Port forwarding is enabled on Windows and Linux VPN apps and Proton VPN has said many Mac users have been asking for it. There's more love for Apple users as Guest Mode is coming to iOS and iPadOS. Amazon strikes AI licensing deal with Hearst and Condé Nast
Digiday is reporting that media conglomerates Hearst and Condé Nast have signed multi-year licensing agreements with Amazon to allow its AI shopping assistant Rufus access to the vast library of content held by the two companies. Between Hearst and Condé Nast, Rufus will have access to Cosmopolitan , GQ , Vogue and The New Yorker , just to name a few. A Hearst spokesperson confirmed to Digiday that the licensing deal with Amazon will allow Rufus broad access to its newspapers and magazines. The publication also received confirmation from Condé Nast. Further details on the arrangements have not been shared. Rufus is a chatbot built to answer shoppers' questions on product recommendations and other shopping-related needs. The AI tool is trained on Amazon's catalog, customer reviews, community Q&As, and "information from across the web." The strong commerce angle found in much of the Hearst and Condé Nast catalog makes the publishers suitable matches for the AI to train on. This follows a slew of licensing deals over the last few years between content publishers and tech giants seeking more content on which to train AI. For Condé Nast, this actually marks the second major AI deal for the media company since it entered into a multi-year partnership with OpenAI last year to display content from its various publications in ChatGPT. Amazon recently struck a licensing arrangement with The New York Times and its adjacent properties, all while the iconic newspaper is embroiled in a lawsuit against Microsoft and OpenAI for copyright infringement. From Disney and Universal suing Midjourney to Reddit signing an AI deal , these latest signings are a continuation of the existential back-and-forth between content creators protecting their intellectual property and AI companies' seemingly endless appetite for more content on which to train their various models.
