A three-time Stanley Cup champion and Olympic gold medallist is joining the Calgary Flames' player development staff.
And Brent Seabrook is excited for the opportunity.
'I am really looking forward to getting started with the group of young, talented players in the Flames organization,' Seabrook said.
'The future of the organization is very bright.'
Seabrook, who played 15 seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks, will work with players from the Flames as well as the AHL's Calgary Wranglers.
The Flames made the announcement on Monday.
And the team is just as excited as Seabrook.
'We are pleased to welcome Brent Seabrook,' said Flames GM Craig Conroy.
'Our young players will benefit from his years of experience in the NHL and his championship pedigree.'
The Flames also announced on Monday that six players have received qualifying offers.
Those players include Morgan Frost, Connor Zary, Sam Morton, Rory Kerins, Yan Kuznetsov and Jeremie Poirier.

Is Oilers' Evan Bouchard worth $10.5 million per season? He thinks so

As Edmonton Oilers fans watched the NHL's free-agency window open Tuesday with the team's roster shedding its skin with major departures at forward, at least they went to bed the previous night knowing the blue line was secured. Article content Evan Bouchard will be a big part of the plans for the two-time reigning Western Conference champions as they look to get over the Stanley Cup hump that's seen them fall short twice in a row to the Florida Panthers in the battle of the last two teams standing. Article content Article content Article content The offensively gifted defenceman signed a four-year deal worth $42 million Monday evening, earning a raise of $6.6 million per year on the $3.9 million he had been making, after earning 67 points (14 goals, 53 assists), while averaging a team-high 23:28 of ice time in the regular season. He followed up by turning it on once again in the playoffs with 23 points (seven goals and 16 points) in 22 games to lead all defencemen in post-season scoring for the second year in a row. Article content But as he sat down to field questions from the media Tuesday morning, his mind wasn't on last year, or what will happen after his new contract ends after 2028-29, but the season right in front of him. Article content Especially with the way unfinished business has felt like it's been piling up over the past two off-seasons. Article content 'Definitely, that's the goal for myself and the organization and everybody else in the locker-room is to win the Stanley Cup,' Bouchard said. 'A lot of teams say that, but I really do think the Oilers and myself, we have the pieces to do that. Article content Article content 'We've shown that in the last couple of years, we're just a fraction off and we just have to figure that out. We have the opportunity to get it done.' Article content Article content As the Oilers have progressed, so too has Bouchard's own game, which he continues to work on developing into as much a two-way style as possible. Though admittedly, the defensive side has plenty of catching up to do before it can come close to the same level as his patented Bouch Bomb shot from the blue line. Article content 'I think, definitely, that's a big thing,' Bouchard said. 'I think over the past season or two, I've really focused on the defensive side of things, especially later on in the season. Come playoff time, that's the most important thing, is to keep the puck out of the net. So, I think my game is going to keep getting better, keep growing on both sides. Article content 'For next season, the big thing for me is consistency. The highs can be high, but the games where you're not feeling it so much, not having to be very low. So, I think consistency is going to be a big thing for me next season.'

Raptors sign first-round pick Collin Murray-Boyles to rookie-scale contract

The Toronto Raptors signed first-round pick Collin Murray-Boyles to a rookie-scale contract, the team announced Tuesday. The six-foot-seven, 239-pound forward was the ninth overall pick in last week's NBA draft coming out of the University of South Carolina. Murray-Boyles averaged 16.8 points and 8.3 rebounds in 32 games en route to earning an All-Southeastern Conference second-team selection as a sophomore. He led the SEC in field-goal percentage (.586), scored 20-plus points in 12 games and had nine double-doubles for the Gamecocks. Toronto also signed guard Chucky Hepburn to a two-way contract Tuesday. Hepburn averaged 16.4 points and 5.8 assists in 34 games as a senior year at the University of Louisville in 2024-25. The six-foot-two, 190-pound Hepburn was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year and earned All-ACC first team and all-defensive team honours. He led the ACC in steals per game with 2.4.
