2025 First Half Box Office Report Card: Hindi Film Industry scores 6 successes, with 3 clean hits in Chhaava, Raid 2 and Sitaare Zameen Par

Pink Villaa day ago
The first half of 2025 has come to an end, and it has been a reasonable year so far for the Hindi Film Industry. The biggest grosser of the year so far is the Vicky Kaushal led Chhaava, which collected Rs 557 crore at the box office in India. The Laxman Uttekar directorial is not just the biggest grosser of the year, but also the second biggest of all time after Stree 2. The period drama surprised one and all with phenomenal run at the box office.
The second success of the year came in the form of Sunny Deol led Jaat, which clocked Rs 86 crore at the Indian box office. The film has scored HIT numbers, but given the rather high costs, it has ended up being an average grosser at the box office. For Sunny Deol, these are very good numbers, acting as a good follow up to his 2023 blockbuster, Gadar 2.
The Akshay Kumar led Kesari 2 ended its run around the Rs 91 crore, securing the Semi-Hit verdict at the box office. The court room drama trended very well after a Rs 7 crore start, with strong appreciation in the urban areas, and broke the norm by being one of the rare 'non-commercial' film to achieve the successful tag. The film also marked a mini-comeback of sorts for Akshay Kumar.
Ajay Devgn delivered a clean hit with Raid 2, as the film collected Rs 165 crore upon its release on May 1. Raid 2 marked the 4th successful film for Ajay Devgn in the post covid era after Drishyam 2, Shaitaan, and Singham Again.
Akshay Kumar delivered another moderate success in 2025 with the comic caper, Housefull 5, which has secured the average tag at the box-office, manging to breakeven for the stakeholders. With lifetime collections a little under the Rs 170 crore mark, Housefull 5 has emerged an average grosser at the box office, emerging the 4th success for AK in post Covid after Sooryavanshi, OMG 2, and Kesari 2.
The quarter ended well with the release of Aamir Khan led Sitaare Zameen Par, which has emerged a clean hit despite a not-so-commercial genre. The film is tracking to hit Rs 160 crore to 175 crore by the end of its run, which with a controlled budget is a hit number. The Aamir Khan starrer started slow at Rs 10 crore, but the business grew from strength-to-strength with a solid trend resulting in the hit tag.
Meanwhile, films like Diplomat and Maa proved to be below average ventures, whereas the likes of Emergency, Sky Force, Deva, Mere Husband Ki Biwi, Crazxy, Superboys of Malegaon, Sikandar, Ground Zero, and The Bhootnii are theatrical failures due to culmination of high costs and poor business.
Here's a look at the verdict chart of 2025
Chhaava: All Time Blockbuster
Raid 2: Hit
Sitaare Zameen Par: Hit
Kesari: Semi Hit
Jaat: Average
Housefull 5: Average
The Diplomat: Below Average
Maa: Below Average (Expected)
There were some box office surprises from Hollywood in 2025 with hits like Final Destination: Bloodlines, Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning and F1 among others. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates.

Box Office: War 2 Telugu states theatrical rights sold for Rs 90 crore, Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR starrer acquired by Naga Vamsi

War 2 is among the most anticipated movies of 2025. The Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR starrer is seen as a front-runner to emerge as the biggest grosser of the year. While the movie is still 5 weeks away from its release, it is making waves for its historic pre-release business. War 2 locks the biggest deal for dubbed films in the Telugu states Pinkvilla learned that Yash Raj Films has inked a landmark deal with Naga Vamsi's Sithara Entertainments for the distribution rights of War 2. Reportedly, the leading South film production and distribution company has acquired the Telugu rights of War 2 to distribute it across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana at a staggering figure of Rs 90 crore minimum guarantee (MG). Interestingly, this is the biggest deal ever for a dubbed movie in the Telugu states in the history of Indian cinema. It includes theatrical distribution rights for all three versions- Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil. War 2 to have a wide release in Telugu states, unlike other dubbed movies Usually, YRF doesn't believe in selling their films outright; however, they are opting for a rare strategy for War 2. The hype around War 2 skyrocketed ever since Jr NTR joined Hrithik Roshan and Kiara Advani. And since then, multiple leading players from the Southern film industries have approached Aditya Chopra to bag its distribution rights. Eventually, the deal got locked with Sithara Entertainment, following multiple weeks of negotiation. The makers believe that the Naga Vamsi company is the right contender to take War 2 to the grassroots of the Telugu heartland. Reportedly, the Ayan Mukerji directorial will not be treated like a regular dubbed movie, but it will be released in mass pockets across APTS like a true-blue local venture. War 2 to have 5 AM premiere shows across the Telugu states Jr NTR, who is playing Agent Vikram in War 2, is among the biggest stars of Telugu cinema. With Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR facing off against each other, the interest among exhibitors is at peak. The makers are planning to capitalise on the hype and Tarak's superstardom by organising a massive 5 AM premiere show of War 2 across the twin states. For the unversed, War 2 marks the entry of Jr NTR to the YRF Spy Universe, which already has bigwigs like Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, John Abraham, Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif, and Kiara Advani. Slated to hit the screens on August 14, War 2 is the sixth film in the spy universe, following Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), War (2019), Pathaan (2023), and Tiger 3 (2023). The high-stakes deal between YRF and Sithara Entertainments signifies how a Pan-India movie should be marketed and distributed in the most passionate cinema markets. All eyes are now on the reception of War 2. It will be interesting to see whether the much-awaited movie can live up to the expectations or not. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates.

After BIG court ruling against Mohammed Shami, Hasin Jahan video in white sari goes VIRAL

Mohammed Shami and Hasin Jahan. (Source: Instagram) The Calcutta High Court made a major ruling in the favour of Hasin Jahan as it directed Team India and Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Mohammed Shami to pay Rs 4 lakh per month to his estranged wife and his daughter Aaiyra. The High Court raised the maintenance amount from Rs 80000 per month to Rs 4 lakh with their ruling earlier this week. After this big court ruling, a video of former model and IPL cheerleader Hasin Jahan, where she is seen dancing in a white sari has gone viral on Instagram. Hasin, who got married to Mohammed Shami in 2014 and separated in 2018, had posted this video a week back in which she is seen dancing to the song 'Aa Kahin door chale jaayein…' by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik. Watch Hasin Jahan's viral video dance video in a white sari HERE… Meanwhile, ex-wife of Mohammed Shami said that the Indian pacer's mindset has been ruined by 'fame and arrogance'. 'A person with a wrong mindset, who has crime in his mind, and who pushes his own family, wife and children towards trouble, and who was never anything and suddenly a lot happens, these people get arrogance and attitude. They develop such an attitude that they themselves do not know which path they are standing on, what they are doing and why they are doing it. Right now, he (Shami) is completely consumed by pride. The day that pride fades, he will remember his wife, his daughter, and all his wrongdoings. As of now, because of that arrogance, he has made no effort to contact me or our daughter. In fact, the last time he met our daughter was only because of Hon'ble Justice Tirthankar Ghosh's fear,' Hasin Jahan told IANS news agency. Hasin Jahan had approached High Court The former model and actress had approached the Calcutta High Court when then District Court ordered Mohammed Shami to pay Rs 80000 per month back in 2023. 'In my considered opinion, a sum of Rs 1,50,000 per month to the petitioner no.1 (wife) and Rs 2,50,000 to her daughter would be just fair and reasonable to ensure financial stability for both the petitioners, till disposal of the main application,' the order passed by Justice Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee on Tuesday stated. 'However as regards petitioner's child the husband /opposite party No 2 will always be at liberty to voluntarily assist her with educational and/or other reasonable expenses, over and above the aforesaid amount,' the order added. Hasin Jahan had filed an FIR against Mohammed Shami in 2018 Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Shami's ex-wife Hasin Jahan had filed a FIR against the cricketer back in 2018 for domestic violence. She had alleged 'enormous physical and mental torture' under Section 12 of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violation (PWDV) Act, 2005 and 'sustained indifference and neglect' of her minor daughter. Besides domestic violence, she also accused Shami of dowry harassment and match-fixing while alleging that Shami had stopped shouldering financial responsibility for running her family expenses. Shami was bought for Rs 10 crore by Kavya Maran's Sunrisers Hyderabad at the IPL 2025 mega auction last year. He claimed six wickets in 9 matches in the IPL 2025 season.
