Neighbours thought they moved — but foul smell leads to discovery of woman and child's bodies in Penang flat
According to The Straits Times, the discovery was made after a neighbour reported a foul smell coming from the unit and alerted the authorities at around 4.41pm.
A team from the Fire and Rescue Department and the police was dispatched to the scene.
'Preliminary checks found two bodies — a woman and a child — inside the unit.
'Their remains were already decomposing,' a source was quoted as saying.
The woman and child are believed to have been dead for some time.
According to a woman claiming to be her younger sister, who wished to be known as Nor, the 40-year-old woman had been living in the flat with her two-year-old child after divorcing her husband. She was said to be unemployed.
'The last time I saw my sister was at the end of May,' Nor reportedly told Harian Metro on Monday night.
Neighbours living on the same floor said they had not heard any noise from the unit for weeks and assumed the woman had moved out.
'She told us before that she planned to move, and I even saw her carrying things, like she was preparing to leave,' one neighbour said.
'She mentioned the flat was going to be auctioned off and that she intended to relocate to Seberang Perai. After that, we didn't see her again.'
The identities of the deceased had not been officially confirmed at the time of writing.
The bodies have been sent to Penang Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

'The suspects targeted customers who used the X app to market their pornographic videos, while Telegram was used as the main messaging platform to arrange prostitution services,' Utusan Malaysia quoted him as saying. He said the videos were sold at prices ranging from RM50 to RM150, while the sexual services were offered for RM450 to RM800 at a four-star hotel. 'It is believed the suspects earned up to RM6,400 a week,' he said. Rusdi said the husband was responsible for producing and promoting the explicit content, while the wife starred in the videos to help boost sales.

Melaka man charged with slapping four-year-old daughter for repeatedly saying ‘bodoh'
KUALA LUMPUR, July 2 — A man pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court in Melaka today to a charge of slapping his four-year-old daughter after she allegedly kept saying the word 'bodoh' (stupid), causing her injury in the incident that took place three months ago. The Star reported that Mohamad Hazmi Mansor, 34, entered the plea after the charge was read to him before Magistrate Uthman Abd. Ghani. According to the charge sheet, he is accused of voluntarily causing hurt by slapping the child on the cheek at around 2pm on April 7, 2025, at a shop in Taman Cheng Utama, Melaka Tengah. The offence is framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum sentence of one year in prison, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction. It is understood the accused, who has been divorced for four years, was allegedly angered when the child repeatedly uttered the word 'bodoh' despite being told to stop. Deputy Public Prosecutor Farah Nabihah Sofian proposed bail be set at RM10,000, citing the fact that the victim is the accused's biological daughter. Defence counsel Amritpal Singh urged the court to impose a lower bail amount, noting that his client had recently lost his job and is financially supporting his parents. The court granted bail at RM2,000 with one surety and fixed August 11 for case mention and document submission.

Man narrowly escapes death in Butterworth shooting

(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : A man in Sungai Nyior, Butterworth, Penang, narrowly escaped death this evening when shots were fired at his four-wheel-drive vehicle by an unidentified assailant. Sinar Harian reported that in the 5.40pm incident, the man in his 40s was on his way to pick up his son from school. The portal quoted a source as saying the man was approached by two other men, who then fired several shots at the window of his vehicle. However, the man did not suffer any injuries. Based on pictures of the incident on social media, at least five shots hit the window of the victim's vehicle. Police have yet to release a statement on the matter.
