Deliveries of the Tesla Model Y are expected to begin in the third quarter of 2025.
Earlier today, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated Tesla's first Experience Centre in India, located at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai, marking a significant milestone for the company's entry into the Indian market.
The minister said, "I welcome Tesla here in Mumbai. Tesla has opened an experience centre here, and it is a statement that Tesla has arrived and it's a statement they Tesla has arrived in the right city and right state."
In April this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephonic conversation with Elon Musk, discussing potential collaborations in technology and innovation. PM Modi had also met Musk earlier in February during his visit to the United States.
With the opening of its first showroom in Mumbai, Tesla aims to test the Indian market and lay the groundwork for its premium electric vehicle offerings in one of the world's fastest-growing automotive sectors.

"Very close to a deal with India...we're in negotiation: US President Trump

Washington DC: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday hinted at reaching a new trade deal with India soon. While adding "maybe", he said that currently the US is in negotiations with India. Trump, while speaking to reporters during a bilateral meeting with Bahrain's Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, emphasised that August 1 will be a significant day, when a lot of money will come into his country. "... We've brought in over $100 billion. The tariffs haven't kicked in significantly, except for automobiles and steel. August 1st is when a very substantial money comes into our country. We've made deals with numerous places. We had one yesterday," Trump said. "We have another one (deal) coming up, maybe with India... We're in negotiation. When I send out a letter, that's a deal... The best deal we can make is to send out a letter, and the letter says that you'll pay 30%, 35%, 25%, 20%... We have some pretty good deals to announce... We're very close to a deal with India where they open it up," Trump added. The US President on Tuesday said the United States is working on a deal that gives it access to the Indian markets. He also announced a new trade deal with Indonesia, after which the latter will face a reduced tariff rate of 19 per cent. Announcing progress on the India part, Trump stated, "We're going to have access into India. And you have to understand, we had no access into any of these countries. Our people couldn't go in. And now we're getting access because of what we're doing with the tariffs." The ongoing bilateral trade talks (BTA) negotiations by India and the United States (US) are progressing as per the decisions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, said the government officials on Tuesday. "Our team is back in the US for carrying out the fifth round of negotiations on the bilateral trade agreement, so that agreement is progressing as per the decisions of our leaders and as per the terms of reference decided between the two countries," the government officials told ANI.

Nifty 50 may touch new record high of 28,957 by December if bull run returns: Report

New Delhi: Indian equity markets may witness a strong upward move in the coming months, with the Nifty 50 index expected to touch a new all-time high of 28,957 by December 2025 if a bull run returns, according to a report released by PL Capital. The Nifty 50 index had previously hit an all-time high of 26,277.35 in September 2024. The report has laid out three scenarios revising its earlier targets for the Nifty 50, depending on market conditions. In the base case, the Nifty is valued at a 2.5 per cent discount to its 15-year average price-to-earnings (PE) ratio of 18.5x, with a projected March 2027 earnings per share (EPS) of Rs 1,451.5. This leads to a 12-month target of 26,889, revised upwards from the earlier estimate of 25,521. In the bull case, the index is valued at a PE of 20x, resulting in a target of 28,957, revised from the earlier estimate of 27,590. In the bear case, Nifty may trade at a 10 per cent discount to its long-period average, with a lower target of 24,821, slightly down from 24,831 earlier. The report said, "We value NIFTY at PE of 20x and arrive at bull case target of 28957 (27590 earlier)". However, it emphasised that a revival in consumption demand will be critical going forward. Factors supporting this include a normal monsoon, multi-year low food inflation, interest rate and CRR cuts, and tax benefits from the FY26 Union Budget. The report also stated that the first quarter of FY26 has shown a mixed trend, with demand remaining stable but no major acceleration. The upcoming festive season and the spatial distribution of monsoon rainfall are expected to play a key role in boosting broad-based demand. Government capital expenditure (Capex) front-loading was also highlighted, with a growth of 61 per cent in April and 39 per cent in May. There has been a notable momentum in order placement and a significant pickup in defence spending. Additionally, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has reduced the repo rate by 100 basis points (bps) and plans to cut the cash reserve ratio (CRR) by another 100 bps gradually. These measures are aimed at improving liquidity in the financial system and stimulating credit growth, which was recorded at 9.5 per cent in the first quarter of FY26.

India's retail inflation headed below 2% RBI tolerance band in July: Nomura

New Delhi: Retail inflation in India, which has been on a declining trend providing further respite to common people, is expected to head below RBI's 2 per cent lower tolerance band, this July, according to Nomura. Continuing its downward trend, retail inflation in India hit a new over six-year low in June, at 2.1 per cent. "Headline inflation moderated below market expectations...," multinational investment and brokerage firm Nomura said in a report this week. A sharp decline in prices was reported in a number of food categories, offsetting the seasonal uptick in vegetable prices. Food and beverages inflation fell in June, with a sequential drop in prices of pulses, cereals, and spices, while higher prices were observed for eggs, meat, and fish, edible oils, and vegetables; the latter in line with seasonal trends. Against this backdrop of moderating retail inflation in India, Nomura recently lowered its 2025-26 headline inflation forecast to 2.8 per cent, from 3.3 per cent, well below the RBI's forecast of 3.7 per cent. "While the hurdle for a rate cut at the next meeting in August appears high, we expect 25 basis point cuts in each of the October and December meetings to a terminal rate of 5.00 per cent," the Nomura report read. "We also expect banking system liquidity to be kept in a surplus for effective monetary policy transmission," it added. Daily data for the first 13 days of July suggest headline inflation is tracking even lower in July, at around 1.5 per cent, Nomura asserted. The inflation rate is within the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) manageable range of 2-6 per cent. Retail inflation last breached the Reserve Bank of India's 6 per cent upper tolerance level in October 2024. Since then, it has been in the 2-6 per cent range, which the RBI considers manageable. Food prices were a concern for Indian policymakers, who wished to sustain retail inflation around 4 per cent. Inflation has been a concern for many countries, including advanced economies, but India has largely managed to steer its inflation trajectory well. The RBI held its benchmark repo rate steady at 6.5 per cent for the eleventh consecutive time, before cutting it first time in about five years in February 2025. Analysts expect inflation to remain under control, allowing the RBI to focus on supporting economic growth. The recent 50 basis points repo cut was quite an indication. The inflation outlook for the year 2025-26 has been recently revised downwards from RBI's earlier forecast of 4 per cent to 3.7 per cent. "We expect credit growth to remain subdued and see downside risks to the RBI's 2025-26 forecasts for GDP growth (6.5 per cent) and inflation (3.7 per cent)," the Nomura report read. Separately, Wholesale inflation (WPI) in India turned negative in June at (-) 0.13 per cent as against 0.39 per cent in May. In April 2023, the wholesale inflation last went into negative territory and continued for seven straight months. Similarly, in the initial days of COVID-19, in July 2020, too, the WPI was reported to be negative.
