Uttarakhand CM Dhami credits PM Modi for boosting research, global ties in energy sector
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], June 28 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday highlighted the state's progress in the energy sector, particularly in natural gas and oil, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaking after the 'All India Oil Sector Meet', Dhami emphasised the importance of coordination between the economy, ecology, and technology to become a global power in this field. The event, attended by experts from across the country, provides a platform for discussing challenges, opportunities, and future directions in the oil and gas sector.
Dhami mentioned that several research projects and partnerships with countries around the world are being conducted in the field of natural gas, showcasing the state's commitment to innovation and collaboration.
Dhami said, 'After Prime Minister Modi became the Prime Minister, several research works and partnerships with countries around the world are being conducted in the field of natural gas and ONGC.'
Lauding PM Modi's leadership for advancing India's presence in the natural gas domain, he added, 'Good work is happening in this sector. The 'All India Oil Sector Meet' has been organised here, with people from across the country participating... By establishing better coordination between economy, ecology, and technology, we will become a global power in this field as well.'
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand has initiated measuring Gross Environmental Product (GEP) to prioritise environmental protection and promote sustainable development. Dhami has inaugurated projects worth Rs 190 crore in Dehradun, including an electric vehicle charging station and an automated parking system, to enhance urban infrastructure and promote eco-friendly initiatives.
The state government is working on various energy projects, including pump storage projects and wind-solar hybrid projects, to boost renewable energy capacity.
Earlier, CM Dhami paid tribute to former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao on the eve of his birth anniversary on Saturday.

Former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao was posthumously conferred with the country's highest civilian honour, Bharat Ratna, by President Droupadi Murmu on March 30, 2024.
Born on June 28, 1921, in Karimnagar, Telangana, as an agriculturist and an advocate, Narasimha Rao entered politics and held several important portfolios. He served as the Minister of Law and Information (1962-64), Law and Endowments (1964-67), Health and Medicine (1967), and Education (1968-71) in the Government of Andhra Pradesh.
Rao, the ninth Prime Minister of India, assumed office in June 1991 and stayed in power till May 1996. He is credited with bringing many economic reforms to the country, particularly for dismantling the License Raj.
Rao took over the post of Home Minister on July 19, 1984, and was re-appointed to this post, with the additional charge of the Ministry of Planning, on November 5, 1984. He was appointed as the Minister of Defence from December 31, 1984, to September 25, 1985. On September 25, 1985, he assumed the role of Minister of Human Resource Development.
He was the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh from 1971 to 1973 and General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee from 1975 to 1976. (ANI)

The central government, on the other hand, also spends huge amount on several welfare schemes such as Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA), Jal Jeevan Mission, PM Kisan, PM Awas Yojana and PM Poshan. The central government has allocated Rs 86,000 crore for MNREGA that too only for this year. What Kind Of Warning Is This? Crisil has warned that increased state spending on welfare programs, particularly those targeting women, children, and marginalised groups, will widen their revenue deficits. This surge in spending, consistent with previous years at 1.4 to1.6 percent of GSDP between FY19 and FY24 will likely curtail states capacity for capital investment. The rise in expenditure is attributed to pre-election initiatives, including income support schemes and free public transportation for women. What Is Needed To Defeat China? To overtake China economically, India has to take concrete and far-sighted steps rather just spending on social welfare schemes. Focus on productive investments India should focus on creation of world-class infrastructure like roads, railways, ports, power, digital connectivity. These developments will reduce logistics costs and boosts industries. Investments in education, healthcare, and skills development is also needed to create a skilled and healthy workforce. India has to work on increasing public and private investment in research and development. This will promote innovation. Notably, China has invested big in this. Development of the manufacturing sector China's robust manufacturing sector significantly contributes to its economic growth. India's economic progress requires bolstering initiatives like 'Make in India' by streamlining manufacturing establishment, offering tax benefits, and enhancing global supply chain integration. Emphasis on exports China has an export-oriented economy. India also needs to expand its export base in high value-added goods and services. Policy stability A stable policy environment is essential to attract investors. Improving the ease of doing business will automatically reduce red tape. Financial discipline Both the states and the Centre must keep the fiscal deficit under control. This will reduce debt and increase revenue.

Only 30% of MahaRERA recovery warrants executed; Rs 527cr still to be recovered
Pune: MahaRERA's progress on recovery warrant has remained slow, with only 31% of cases executed. Despite state govt's directive to dispose of these cases within three months, merely Rs 233 crore has been recovered out of Rs 760 crore due in 1,212 cases across Maharashtra, officials told TOI on Saturday. The slow progress contradicts revenue minister Chandrakant Bawankule's assurance during the state budget session, where he emphasised speedy execution of MahaRERA's recovery warrant orders and clearing the backlog within three months. The recovery warrants are issued under Section 40(1) of the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act (RERA) against developers who neither complete projects nor refund homebuyers. Once issued by MahaRERA, these orders are forwarded to district collectors for action, including property attachment and recovery of dues. The districts of Mumbai Suburban, Pune and Thane continue to report the highest backlog of such pending cases. There should be a clearly defined SOP and phase-wise targets, not just vague timelines," said activist R Prabhu. "It's important that revenue officials are able to give a concrete and time-bound plan for executing these orders," an official noted.
