Receiving positive response from people on State's governance, says A.P. Finance Minister

The Hindu02-07-2025
Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav said that they were receiving positive response while visiting villages and interacting with the locals as part of 'Suparipalanalo Tholi Adugu' initiative. He participated in the programme at Jayapuram village of Kuderu mandal in Uravakonda constituency on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Keshav said that all the MLAs and Ministers have been visiting villages and getting positive feedback from the people. 'People are telling that our government is meeting their expectations and aspirations. They also told that the previous government had created an atmosphere of fear in the villages,' he said.
Mr. Keshav said that while the previous government gave ₹3,000 per month as pension, the NDA government increased it to ₹4,000. Similarly, the previous government gave 'Amma Vodi' to 45 lakh students, while our government is giving Talli Ki Vandanam to 67 lakh students, Mr. Keshav added.
Meanwhile, on his visit to the village, the Minister distributed free pigeon pea seeds to 55 farmers.
In Nandyal district, Roads and Buildings (R&B) Minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy took part in the programme at Gulladurthi in Banganapalle mandal. The Minister said that the NDA government purely focussed on development once the elections were over. He lashed out at the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) for resorting to rowdyism and other atrocities.
Meanwhile, Industries and Commerce Minister T.G. Bharath conducted door-to-door campaign in Budavaripet locality in Kurnool district.

Free electricity for 1.67 crore families: Nitish Kumar's latest big announcement ahead of Bihar election

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday announced that up to 125 units of electricity would be provided free of cost to domestic consumers, benefiting 1.67 crore households in the election-bound state. This comes weeks after the Bihar government announced its decision to nearly triple the social security pension from Rs 400 to Rs 1,100 per month for 1.1 crore beneficiaries. 'We have been providing electricity to everyone at affordable rates from the beginning. Now, we have decided that from August 1, 2025, i.e., from the July bill onwards, all domestic consumers in the state will not have to pay for up to 125 units of electricity. This will benefit a total of 1.67 crore families in the state,' the CM said in a post on X. 'We have also decided that over the next three years, we will install solar power plants on the rooftops of these domestic consumers, or nearby public spaces, with their consent. For extremely poor families under the Kutiir Jyoti Yojana, the state government will bear the entire cost of installing solar power plants, and the government will also provide appropriate support to the rest. This means that domestic consumers will not have to pay for up to 125 units of electricity, and the state will also have an estimated 10,000 megawatts of solar energy available within the next three years,' Nitish Kumar's post, which was in Hindi, said. Ever since Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav had announced a few months ago that his alliance would offer 200 units of power for free if it came to power after this year's Assembly election, the NDA government had been working out its plans to offer free electricity. Bihar is set to go to the polls this October-November. RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari took a swipe at the CM over the free electricity announcement, calling it a 'copycat' move. 'It is not for nothing that our leader calls Nitish Kumar a copycat CM. It was Tejashwi ji who had first come up with ideas of raising social security pension and offering free power. It is time the NDA came up with some original ideas… Eventually, people will take a call on the NDA, which looks desperate to stay in power by offering sundry doles,' he said. All eyes on Srikalahasti Devasthanam chairman post

Tirupati: The appointment of the chairman for the Srikalahasti Devasthanam Trust Board, which has been lying vacant since March 2024, has emerged as a flashpoint of political competition within the ruling NDA alliance, as key leaders intensify efforts to secure control over the influential temple body. Despite assuming office in June 2024, the NDA coalition has left the temple post unfilled for over a year, even as several nominated positions across the state were swiftly occupied. With mounting pressure from alliance partners and local party units, sources say the government is now poised to finalise the appointment, possibly in the next couple of days. TDP leader Rangineni Chenchaiah Naidu of Yerpedu mandal has emerged as the frontrunner, backed firmly by Srikalahasti MLA Bojjala Sudhir Reddy. A former Market Committee chairman and longstanding TDP loyalist, Chenchaiah is also closely associated with the Bojjala political family. During the YSRCP government, he reportedly faced political harassment, including multiple police cases. While the BJP and Jana Sena initially sought to stake a claim, their prospects appear to have waned. BJP state secretary Kola Anand, who once held the same post under the Congress government led by Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, is said to be lobbying for the position either for himself or a close relative. However, the BJP's case reportedly lacks momentum in the current equation. Jana Sena's bid effectively collapsed following the arrest of former constituency in-charge K Vinutha and her husband in a murder case. Although Vinutha had proposed a nominee from her family earlier, her expulsion from the party closed all avenues in this regard. Intra-party competition within TDP has also surfaced. Senior leaders Reddyvari Gurava Reddy and Dasharadhachari have directly conveyed their interest to the party high command. Former MLA S C V Naidu has reportedly been lobbying for the candidature of S Praveen, son of ex-legislator Satravada Muniramaiah. Amid competing claims, the NDA leadership is believed to have conducted an IVRS-based public and cadre opinion survey in the Srikalahasti constituency to assess local sentiment and narrow down options. The feedback from this exercise is expected to be a key factor in the final decision and it is widely speculated that the party high command will tilt in favour of MLA's recommendation paving the way for Chenchaiah Naidu. Obviously, it was under his watch, the temple is said to have witnessed greater administrative order after a period of instability in recent years. The political weight of the post is underscored by the significance of the temple itself. As one of the six Category-C temples in the State, Srikalahasti sees a daily footfall of thousands and generates over Rs 1 crore in daily revenues. The chairman wields considerable influence over appointments, contracts, and temple development works, making the role a powerful position in both religious and political terms.

Coalition will win TN polls, AIADMK to form govt, says EPS

Tamil Nadu's principal opposition party, the AIADMK, and its ally, the BJP, continue to contradict each other on the formation of the government led by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), in the event of the coalition winning the 2026 assembly elections in the state. Coalition will win TN polls, AIADMK to form govt, says EPS While Union home minister Amit Shah has previously said that the NDA led by the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu will form a coalition government, the AIADMK's general secretary and leader of opposition, Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) on Wednesday reiterated his stand against it. 'Our alliance will win but the AIADMK will form the government independently,' EPS said in response to Shah's comments, adding, 'It is the AIADMK that leads this alliance. So it is my decision. BJP has also clarified that I will be chief minister. What more do you need?' EPS added that Shah meant that the alliance will form the government but that did not mean it will be a coalition government. Earlier, on July 12, EPS had said that the AIADMK would secure a majority on its own. EPS is currently on a state-wide tour ahead of next year's elections and is campaigning alongside BJP leaders. Shah had told a Tamil daily in June that the NDA will form a coalition government in Tamil Nadu after the 2026 assembly elections, sparking a political controversy and push back from the AIADMK. Senior AIADMK leaders had said that Tamil Nadu voters would reject a coalition government, citing the example of the1980 assembly elections in TN – when the DMK and the Congress proposed a coalition government and were rejected by the people, who proceeded to vote the AIADMK in as the single largest party. Both the DMK and the AIADMK, have historically resisted coalition governments in Tamil Nadu, even though they have been part of coalition governments at the national level. In the 2006 assembly elections, when no party had an absolute majority, then-DMK chief M Karunanidhi formed a minority government with outside support from parties such as the Congress and Left parties. The AIADMK and BJP came together for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. AIADMK walked out of the NDA in 2023, accusing then-BJP state chief K Annamalai of insulting its leaders. After a bitter separation, the two parties came together on April 11, when Shah announced in Chennai that they would fight the 2026 elections together and form a coalition government. The two parties fought the 2024 Lok Sabha elections separately. Both were handed a sound defeat by the ruling DMK, which swept the election as part of the INDIA bloc, winning all 39 parliamentary seats. The AIADMK registered a 20.4% vote share in one of its worst performances while BJP, which was contesting in a larger number of seats, registered one of its best performances in TN with a 11.4% vote share. 'No attempts to create a rift in the alliance will succeed. This is a stable alliance,' EPS said on Wednesday. He also said that the DMK was showing double standards, having joined hands with BJP in the past but criticising the AIADMK for forming an alliance. Responding to reporters' questions on EPS's comments on Wednesday, BJP state president Nainar Nagendran also added that there was no rift. 'He (EPS) said that our alliance will form the government. That will happen. There is nothing more to talk about it, is there?' Nainar said.
