Maoist camp busted in Odisha's Nuapada, explosives seized
Nuapada SP Gundala Reddy Raghavendra said on Tuesday the camp was located near the Chhattisgarh-Odisha border and appeared to have been recently abandoned by the Maoist cadres. 'Basing on reliable intelligence inputs, we carried out search in the area and recovered several explosive materials like one tiffin improvised explosive device (IED), 20 gelatin sticks, an electric detonator, connecting wires, a torchlight, polythene sheets and other camp-related materials,' he added.
The SP further pointed out that the seizure of the tiffin IED and other explosives suggests that the Maoist group was likely planning violent activities targeting security personnel or civilians. 'The timely operation by the DVF has averted any such potential threat. Security forces have intensified combing and area domination operations in and around the region to trace the movement of Naxal elements and ensure the safety of the local population,' he said.
The joint operations are being carried out regularly in the border areas in coordination with the Special Operations Group (SOG) and CRPF to keep the region secure, the SP informed.
On May 15, security forces had uncovered a Maoist camp within the protected forest near Gatibeda in the Sunabeda wildlife sanctuary in Komna area.

He alleged that senior officers of the ATS tortured him physically and mentally during his illegal detention in Khandala, where he claims he was treated 'worse than a prisoner of war.' He also alleged that he was pressured to name prominent leaders from right-wing organisations like the RSS and VHP, including now-Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath. Purohit claimed that false evidence, including RDX, was planted to implicate him. According to his court statement, witnesses were coerced, threatened at gunpoint, and tortured into giving statements dictated by the ATS to align with a political agenda. He accused investigating officers of having orchestrated extra-judicial killings of other suspects and fabricating evidence to fit a pre-decided narrative. He further argued that his work in military intelligence which included reports on fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's alleged links to Maoist groups and an intelligence brief on Zakir Naik's funding activities may have made him a target. Purohit was reinstated in the Army pending trial and continued to serve. 'Even after coming out on bail, my conviction never changed,' he said on Thursday, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to keep serving the nation. Four arrested; booty worth Rs 20.4 lakh recovered
Tirupati: Puthur police arrested a 4-member gang including two from Tamil Nadu involved in nine house breaking cases and recovered from them silver and gold ornaments worth Rs 20.4 lakh. The arrested were identified as Mani (39), Suresh (35), Kumar (29) and Manikanta (25). Two more including Prabhu and Manigandan are still at large. Kumar and Manikanta from Tirupati came into contact with Mani and Suresh who are from Tamil Nadu while they were in jail and formed into a gang after they were released from jail. The four were involved in series of house-breaking cases in Puttur and Chandragiri constituencies. The gang members first identify the locked houses and later during nights break open the houses to enter and take away valuable gold and silver ornaments. Following the series of thefts, special teams were formed to nab the culprits involved in nine cases in Puttur and Chandragiri constituencies. The gang members also stole 2 motorcycles which they used for their conveyance. SP Harshavardhan Raju urged the people to be more cautious about thieves who are breaking locked houses and looting during nights. SP appreciated the team members who were involved in the operation including Puttur DSP Ravi Kumar, CI Raverndra, SIs Obaiah, Naresh, Venkatesh and district crime team PCs Damu, Nagaraju, Ramesh, Mohan, Rajasekhar, Ravi Prakash, Mohan and Munirathnam.
