Piers Morgan urges Trump to demand Gaza ceasefire from Netanyahu

Al Arabiya11 hours ago

British journalist and media personality Piers Morgan called on US President Donald Trump to urge Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end Israel's 'terrible' war in Gaza.
'President (Donald Trump), now is the time for you to tell (Benjamin Netanyahu) to end this terrible war in Gaza, and stop the incessant daily slaughter of civilians,' he wrote on X on Sunday.
'Only you can do this, and as your friend, who knows you hate war, I urge you to,' his post continued.
President @realDonaldTrump, now is the time for you to tell @netanyahu to end this terrible war in Gaza, and stop the incessant daily slaughter of civilians. Only you can do this, and as your friend, who knows you hate war, I urge you to.
— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) June 29, 2025
Morgan has repeatedly been a part of the online debate on the Israel-Hamas war through his show called 'Piers Morgan Uncensored.'
Several clips of guests speaking on the war in Gaza during his daily news show have gone viral on social media, most notable being that of Egyptian comedian and television host Bassem Youssef.
When the Israeli-Palestinian conflict escalated in the aftermath of the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack, Morgan firmly supported the Israeli government's actions in Gaza which followed a brutal bombing campaign that flattened the Gaza Strip and killed thousands. He repeatedly stated that 'Israel has a right to defend itself.'
However, Morgan's stance has recently changed.
While speaking on his show with British American broadcaster and writer Mehdi Hasan, he said that he 'resists no more' in criticizing Israel's actions in Gaza.
'I have resisted going as far as you have done in your criticism of the Israeli government; I resist no more,' he said while speaking to Hasan.
'I think we have reached a common ground of what we view has been happening through this period of (Israeli) blockade which frankly is just starvation of the people (in Gaza) including so many innocent young women and children.'
Morgan's call to the US President comes as Israel's war on Gaza continues in full force, with at least 56,500 people killed in Israeli strikes, mostly civilians, according to the Gaza health ministry figures, also considered reliable by the United Nations.
Israel launched its campaign in Gaza in response to Hamas' attack, which resulted in the deaths of 1,219 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on Israeli official figures.

Palestine's Red Crescent chief tells UK's Prince William of humanitarian crisis in Gaza

LONDON: Younis Al-Khatib, the president of the Palestine Red Crescent Society, held talks with the UK's Prince William during an official visit to Kensington Palace in London on Monday. William, the Prince of Wales, met Al-Khatib and other representatives of his organization, along with members of the British Red Cross, to discuss the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and explore ways in which international humanitarian efforts might be enhanced. The prince's guests described the worsening conditions in Gaza, the increasingly urgent humanitarian needs in the territory, the challenges faced by aid workers and the need to protect medical teams, the Palestine News Agency reported. They also reviewed the efforts being made to help those affected by ongoing Israeli attacks. Al-Khatib said that more than 1,600 Palestine Red Crescent Society employees and volunteers continue to work under extremely hazardous conditions in Gaza to provide emergency medical services and distribute relief supplies. Since the war in Gaza began in late 2023, he added, 28 Red Crescent personnel have been killed amid the Israeli attacks or while performing their duties. The meeting was part of ongoing coordinated efforts by the Red Crescent to highlight the escalating crisis in Gaza, where more than 55,000 Palestinians have been killed during the ongoing conflict, most of them women and children.

DeSantis Signs a Slimmed-Down Florida Budget Into Law After Vetoing Millions

Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the state's new budget of about $115 billion into law Monday, capping the end of a lengthy and combative legislative season that was largely defined by GOP infighting despite the party's iron grip on Tallahassee. The signing came right at the buzzer, DeSantis said, just one day before the budget goes into effect. It took lawmakers 105 days to finalize the spending plan during what was supposed to be a 60-day session. The budget comes in at about $4 billion less than the state's current adjusted budget and is nearly $600 million less than the Legislature's proposed budget after DeSantis used his line-item veto power to cut spending projects. 'I think what you see in the budget is an example of a very fiscally responsible state,' DeSantis said. 'We're meeting the needs of the state of Florida that I think most people want us to be focusing on. We're not, you know, frittering it away.' The new budget and a related tax cut package include a two percent raise for state workers and a 10 percent to 15 percent pay hike for state law enforcement, $1.3 billion a year in tax cuts for families and businesses, and $4 billion to fund scholarships to private and religious schools. Democrats supported the budget, but some criticized the spending on vouchers and tax cuts, arguing for more funding for public schools and programs that support low-income families. The second-term governor, who cannot run for reelection in 2026, held the bill signing event in The Villages, one of the world's largest retirement communities and a place long known as a conservative stronghold. DeSantis used the event to tout a slate of familiar talking points, railing against a self-described democratic socialist running for New York City mayor while touting his own crackdown on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and his push to eliminate property taxes in the state–a change that voters would have to approve. The adoption of a tighter state budget comes as officials are grappling with the loss of federal coronavirus funding and as economists fret over former President Donald Trump's trade wars and a sweeping proposal to cut federal taxes and spending. Florida's legislative leaders have largely downplayed concerns about how Trump's aggressive and unpredictable economic policies could impact the state's coffers, but lawmakers are taking steps to set aside billions of dollars in reserves.

British FM in Turkey to discuss Middle East, bolster trade ties

Britain's top diplomat David Lammy held top-level talks in Ankara Monday that touched on developments in the Middle East and stronger bilateral trade ties on his first visit to Turkey. It was the first official visit by the British foreign secretary who took office a year ago, and held talks with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Speaking after the talks, Fidan said the pair discussed the 12-day Iran-Israel war that ended nearly a week ago, and the importance of shoring up the ceasefire. 'One of our biggest current strategic goals is for the agreement reached between Iran and Israel to continue, for the ceasefire not to be violated and for a permanent peace to return,' he said. He also thanked Lammy for Britain's move to lift sanctions on Syria in late April and noted that Lammy 'said he would go to Syria soon.' 'This is truly an important area of cooperation for us. Stability and security in Syria is an issue that will serve both the region and all of us globally. We will continue to work together on this issue.' Turkish officials did not say what Lammy discussed in talks with Erdogan. The visit came as the two side sought to 'strengthen our bilateral relationship with a free trade agreement ... (that) will be building on £28 billion worth of trade,' Lammy said after meeting Fidan. The talks also focused on deepening defense ties and joint work on regional security, Lammy's office said. 'Security and defense collaboration with Turkey is imperative to UK security interests. This includes joint work on the prospective export of Eurofighter Typhoon to Turkey,' it said, without giving further details. Turkey has been pushing to modernize its air force by purchasing 40 Eurofighter Typhoons which are built by a four-nation consortium grouping Germany, Britain, Spain and Italy. Although London is leading the talks, any of the four nations can veto a sale with Berlin initially slow to approve the sale due to differences over Turkey's stance on the Gaza war.
