ISKANDAR PUTERI – The death of a female teacher, whose decomposing body was discovered at her home in Bandar Selesa Jaya on June 13, is believed to have no criminal elements or links to illegal money-lending syndicates.
Iskandar Puteri district police chief Assistant Commissioner M Kumarasan, stated that the deceased, Lo Kwan Fong, 39, had previously borrowed RM20,000 from loan sharks but had settled the debt.
According to him, initial investigations revealed no incidents of paint splashing or threats directed at the victim.
"The deceased had filed a police report, which was investigated under Section 5(2) of the Moneylenders Act 1951.
"However, after settling her debt, no further police reports were made.
"Her neighbours reported that no loan sharks came to splash paint on her house. The deceased also did not lodge any police reports after her debts were cleared," he said.
He made these remarks during a press conference at the Iskandar Puteri District Police Headquarters on Wednesday.
According to Kumarasan, the body of Kwan Fong has yet to be claimed by her family.
He clarified that police checks with the National Registration Department (JPN) confirmed that the deceased was an only child and that both her parents had passed away.
"The police will consult the hospital again. After two weeks, the body will be handed over to Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) to appoint a private funeral company.
"We were informed that the deceased has an aunt in Singapore, but so far, no information regarding this has been obtained.
"According to neighbours, the deceased was a good teacher but not socially active in the community.
"When found by the police, the victim's body was seated in the bathroom of her locked house,' he said.
He also said that some parents of the deceased's students expressed willingness to assist with the funeral arrangements.
On June 16, media reported that a female teacher was found dead in her home after neighbors noticed a foul smell from the house and filed a report at the Nusa Bestari Police Station at 8pm.
Investigations revealed that the woman, who lived alone, was believed to have been dead for about a month.
The woman was an only child and her parents had passed away several years ago.
An autopsy conducted by a forensic specialist from HSA concluded that the cause of death could not be determined due to advanced decomposition.

PBS Deputy Chief denies bribery allegations, mulls legal action against Malaysiakini

Published on: Monday, June 30, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jun 30, 2025 Text Size: KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Deputy President Datuk Sri Panglima Jahid Jahim has denied allegations published by Malaysiakini accusing him of receiving RM150,000 in bribes linked to a mining scandal. Describing the report as baseless, Jahid clarified that his ministry is not involved in mining license approvals and no such licenses have been issued in his Tamparuli constituency. He criticised the media outlet for allegedly creating a false corruption narrative without due process, echoing similar concerns raised by STAR President Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan. Jahid said the tactic mirrors past attempts to destabilise the state government ahead of elections, and confirmed he is seeking legal advice and reserves the right to take action against Malaysiakini and its authors. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Mining bribery case: Sabah reps vow to continue serving constituents while clearing their names

KOTA KINABALU: Two elected Sabah representatives facing corruption charges want their day in court to clear their names through the legal process after what they termed "intense humiliation" in the public eye. Sindumin assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob and his Tanjung Batu colleague Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy said they would continue serving in their constituencies while proving their innocence and restoring their reputations through the legal system. "As the saying goes, a man is innocent until proven guilty," Dr Yusof told the media after his court appearance on Monday (June 30). "Therefore, we do not want this to disrupt (our work), and we remain focused on our duties as elected representatives to serve our constituencies and fulfil our responsibilities." 'We are confident that the process will be transparent and fair,' he said. Andi Muhammad Suryady, standing beside Dr Yusof, added: 'We will clear our names, and God willing, all will go well." They both stressed that serving the people remained their priority during the case. Asked about his position as state Assistant Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister, Andi Muhammad Suryady declined to comment. 'Let's just wait for the instruction,' he said, without specifying from whom the instruction would come. Dr Yusof, 69, and Andi Muhammad Suryady, 44, pleaded not guilty when charged separately under Section 16(a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 for accepting bribes at the Special Corruption Court here. If convicted, they face up to 20 years' jail and a fine of not less than five times the amount or value of the bribe. They had allegedly received a total of RM350,000 from businessman Datuk Albert Tei in 2023 in relation to mineral prospecting licences. Tei was also charged separately under Section 16(b)(A) of the same Act for offering bribes. Pre-trial case management for all three was fixed for Aug 5.
