Philippart de Foy makes Amo switch to Freemason Lodge

Rhyl Journal02-07-2025
The Belgian, who already trains in the town, will move to one of the most historic stables in the country, which Joorabchian recently purchased upon the retirement of Sir Michael Stoute.
The news comes at the same time as the completion of an extensive refurbishment and will see Freire return to his previous role as Amo's private trainer.
'First, I'd like to welcome Kevin Philippart de Foy as our new trainer at Freemason Lodge,' said Joorabchian in a statement posted on Amo's X account.
'Kevin is a fantastic horseman who understands our goals and shares our ambition. Having known and worked with him for several years, it makes this transition even smoother. We know his character fits and our ideas align perfectly.
'We believe he's the right person to take the operation to the next level, and we're excited about what's ahead with him leading the team at this historic yard.
'At the same time, I want to say a big thank you to Raphael for stepping up and doing such a brilliant job getting Freemason up and running. His work over the past few months has been crucial, and he's laid a solid foundation for the future.'
He added: 'Raphael has been a big part of Amo Racing's journey so far, and he continues to be an integral part of our team moving forward.'
Philippart de Foy said: 'I am deeply honoured to have been entrusted with the responsibility of taking over at Freemason Lodge and training such an exciting string of horses for Amo Racing.
'This is a major milestone in my career, and I'm incredibly grateful to Kia and the team for the opportunity.
'Amo Racing's investment and ambition in the sport are truly inspiring, and I look forward to playing my part in what I hope will be a very successful journey together.'

Russell Martin wants to build Rangers side round Raskin and Rothwell as Findlay Curtis touted for starring role

Belgian ace Raskin has suitors across the continent but Ian Durrant hopes he remains at Ibrox under the new boss - while he has also backed teen ace Curtis to shine. Ian Durrant hopes Rangers can fend off interest in star man Nico Raskin and allow Russell Martin to build a team around the Belgium ace and Joe Rothwell. ‌ Raskin was a standout in the latter part of last season and his tenacious performances saw the midfielder force his way into Rudi Garcia's Red Devils side, winning four caps since March. ‌ Record Sport revealed how Wolves have been tracking the 24-year-old for 18 months while city rivals Aston Villa and La Liga big guns Real Betis have also been linked. ‌ Ibrox chiefs are eager to tie Raskin down on a new deal with just two years left on his current contract. And while Durrant knows every player has his price, he hopes Martin gets the benefit of his services for at least another season beside new signing Rothwell. The 9-in-a-row hero said: 'Of course, the manager will outline that. He wants his best players here. But sometimes money talks. I hope it doesn't, but that's the nature of it he beast. 'He'll want to keep him because you see he's wanting to get Raskin and Joe Rothwell together. The more they play, the better they'll get.' ‌ Meanwhile Durrant reckons Rangers need to start producing more top team stars of their own as he backed Findlay Curtis to be the flag bearer for a new generation of academy starlets. The 19-year-old swept home a dream opening goal in the Champions League qualifier against Panathinaikos at Ibrox on Tuesday night - his first senior goal in just his sixth top team game, Durrant remembers the moment Jock Wallace handed him his own ticket to the big time as an 18-year-old rookie against Morton. ‌ And while football has changed massively in the four decades since, he insists the required mindset is still the exact same as Curtis looks to become a regular under Martin in the Old Firm goldfish bowl. He said: 'You can't just kind of go, okay (I've achieved something). Findlay will be flying just now in terms of getting a goal in the Champions League qualifier. But it will be a rocky road. Now it's a question of how he goes about it. 'That's when your manager and coaches have got to see that. Just give him enough to feed, but if he performs like that, he'll be a starter. ‌ 'The manager's been delighted with him in pre-season. That was the one thing he said to me. 'There's a couple of other ones like Joshua Gentles who was out on oak to Alloa last season and was on the bench the other night. 'They'll knows how to manage it. There's tough games coming up. The young players, they're up, they're down. The manager will know that. It's hard work all the time. ‌ 'If you don't put the hard work in, you'll not get it. You can't just relax and say 'OK, I've made it after one game.' 'My debut, Morton away, Cappielow, Coisty got a hat-trick. I think what helped me then was the club was redeveloping at the stadium. ‌ 'So myself, Derek Ferguson, Robert Fleck, Hugh Burns were given the opportunity because there wasn't a lot of money to go and spend on players. 'We never really had the academy, we were more apprentices. We were given the opportunity. I didn't think for a minute I'd be a Jock Wallace player as he liked players who were six-foot-plus and could head the ball further than they could kick it. 'He came across on the Friday, we had a practice match and he just gave me two complimentary tickets. ‌ 'He just said, 'right, you're playing tomorrow.' There was no time to think about it. 'That was it. Just get a good night's sleep. Cheers gaffer. And you just go and play. 'I'd struck up a wee relationship in training with Davie Cooper at the time and obviously Coisty. ‌ 'When it's thrown upon you, you've got a lot of time to think about it and you maybe dwell on things. 'The manager was brilliant at the time. Big Jock just said, right, you're playing tomorrow night. I was 18. 'There wasn't an age barrier then. ‌ 'It's a different beat now. Phones and all that. I was lucky enough when I made my debut there were no mobile phones so you could get away with it a wee bit. 'He'll know that. They are consummate professionals now in terms of diet and everything. Everything gets monitored. You'll know how to cope with it. 'It helped I had big players to feed off. You're in a tunnel. I'm standing next to Graeme Souness. ‌ 'I'm playing with one of the finest Scottish midfielders. I'm playing with England captain (Terry Butcher), Chris Woods, Ray Wilkins, Trevor Francis. 'I lived the dream playing with Davie Cooper. I was in awe of Davie Cooper. 'I wasn't going to knock that back. ‌ 'The youth system has always been important. If we're going to criticise, I don't think we've produced enough over the years due to circumstances. Maybe the fact that now you're having to chase Celtic, there's a reluctance to play kids. 'Just now, I think the new manager's come in with a breath of fresh air. When I met them the other day at Auchenhowie he said if they're good enough, no matter the age, if they're good enough they'll get a game. 'Young Finlay Curtis has come in and done well. 'Every club, they always like to see their own coming through. There's a few there. 'The way the managers speak, there's not just Finlay, but there's a few. 'I'm really impressed with them pre-season. If it comes, I think they'll get their opportunity.'

Lazard's profit tops estimates on record advisory revenue from dealmaking

July 24 (Reuters) - Investment bank Lazard (LAZ.N), opens new tab surpassed second-quarter profit estimates on Thursday, as a rebound in dealmaking helped power record revenue in its advisory business, sending its shares up 1.5%. Dealmaking activity bounced back sharply in May and June, after grinding to a halt in April as uncertainty over U.S. tariffs weighed on corporate confidence. Lazard's financial advisory revenue jumped 21% to $497 million in the quarter on robust activity in Europe. The business generated record revenue in France and Germany in the first half. "We are super busy," CEO Peter Orszag told journalists on a conference call. "We also see an increasingly constructive environment for dealmaking going forward." Orszag said on a post-earnings call Lazard saw a bit more of an uptick in European activity in the first half that may get balanced as the year progresses and U.S. activity expands. Lazard expects that private equity will play an increasingly active role in M&A, Orszag said, as pressure from investors to return cash continues to mount. The largest U.S. banks last week struck an optimistic tone about the outlook for the rest of the year after their profits beat expectations. Investment banking fees rose 13% at Citigroup (C.N), opens new tab, 7% at JPMorgan (JPM.N), opens new tab, 26% at Goldman Sachs (GS.N), opens new tab, and 9% at Wells Fargo (WFC.N), opens new tab. Lazard had advised Belgian healthcare REITs Aedifica ( opens new tab and Cofinimmo ( opens new tab on their $13.8 billion merger during the second quarter. In July, the company advised Italy's Ferrero on its $3.1 billion deal for Froot Loops maker WK Kellogg (KLG.N), opens new tab. Lazard has hired 14 managing directors in 2025 after setting an earlier target to add 10 to 15 per year, as part of its goal to double revenue by 2030. On an adjusted basis, it earned 52 cents per share in the quarter, beating expectations of 40 cents, according to estimates compiled by LSEG. Adjusted revenue jumped 12% to $770 million, topping estimates of $683.4 million. In asset management, Lazard registered net inflows of $677 million in the quarter, after grappling with outflows since the second quarter of 2023. "Asset management achieved positive net flows in the quarter and record gross inflows for the first half of the year, demonstrating progress towards our goal for this year to serve as an inflection point for the business," Orszag said. Analysts said the inflows could be an early signal of a turnaround for the business. The real highlight of this quarter was in asset management, said Wolfe Research analyst Steven Chubak. Orszag told journalists there are inorganic growth opportunities on the asset management side, but Lazard has not yet found the "right match". Asset management provides a durable source of revenue and helps diversify revenue from investment banking businesses that are driven by economic cycles. Revenue in the asset management business rose 2% to $292 million, while assets under management rose 2% to $248 billion, as of June 30.

Celtic have three surging transfer priorities as Michel Ange Balikwisha makes intentions clear

Brendan Rodgers wants quality signings in the door before next month's Champions League play-off Celtic are refusing to give up on their long-running pursuit of Michel Ange Balikwisha. ‌ The Hoops have identified the Royal Antwerp winger as one of their top targets this summer as Brendan Rodgers desperately seeks to add more firepower to his frontline. ‌ Celts are down to the bare bones in terms of wide options following Nicolas Kuhn's £17million exit to Como and Jota sidelined until 2026. ‌ Balikwisha, 24, has been on the radar for a while and the Parkhead club were ready to move for him in January before he suffered his last injury. The lightning-quick Belgian is out of contract next summer and Celtic hope to land him for a cut-price deal. Cash-strapped Royal Antwerp are open to selling their star man rather than risk losing him for nothing at the end of this season. ‌ But sporting director Marc Overmars is reluctant to budge on the £5m price tag, with Celts keen to meet somewhere in between. The player's representative Jibril Rekkab claimed that there hasn't been contact between both clubs but Record Sport understands discussions have taken place. ‌ It's believed Antwerp know that Balikwisha wants to move to Scotland but are playing hardball as they look to get the best fee they can as his contract runs down. Meanwhile, there were reports that Go Ahead Eagles had turned down Celtic's £1.5m bid for talented winger Jakob Breum. However, Danish sources have dismissed that and claimed the Hoops' interest hasn't been renewed. ‌ As well as a new winger, the Scottish champions are also in the market for a main striker, while another midfielder remains a top priority.
