Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford make same vow as fight announced
Both Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez have made a confident vow after their super-fight was made official.
Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh confirmed the blockbuster Riyadh Season showdown between the two pound-for-pound stars - which will take place in Las Vegas on Saturday, September 13. Alalshikh will team up with UFC president Dana White and Sela to promote the event - which promises to be one of the biggest fights of the year.
Popular streaming service Netflix will broadcast the fight live globally to its 300+ million subscribers at no additional cost. With a little over three months to go until the super-middleweight dust-up, Alvarez and Crawford have both expressed their excitement about the upcoming contest.
Following confirmation of the news, Alvarez - who beat William Scull last month - said: 'I'm super happy to be making history again and this time on a Riyadh Season Card that will be broadcast on Netflix. On September 13, I'm ready to show once again that I am the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.'
Similarly, Crawford has also vowed to put on a career-defining display and secure an emphatic victory on fight night. 'My perfect record speaks for itself," Crawford said. "I am the best fighter in the world and no matter the opponent or weight class, I have always come out on top. On September 13, my hand will be raised once again as the world watches greatness.'
With preparations already well underway, Alalshikh has vowed to deliver 'something truly incredible' for the boxing faithful come fight night. 'On September 13, Canelo and Crawford, two legends of boxing, will finally compete against each other in the fight of the century," he said. "Alongside Dana White and Sela, we will deliver something truly incredible in Las Vegas for fans around the world to enjoy through Netflix.'
Recently, Alalshikh made a sudden U-turn about the event suggesting it would instead promoted as a Riyadh Season event, with White appearing to be left out in the cold. However, immediately after UFC 316 in New Jersey last weekend, White insisted everything is still running as planned with Alalshikh.
And, on Tuesday afternoon, following confirmation that White WILL still be involved, the UFC president - who recently launched the new TKO boxing league, said: 'Turki wants to make the biggest fights that the fans want to see in boxing and this is right up my alley. Are you kidding me that the first boxing fight I'm going to get to promote is Canelo vs. Crawford? It's literally a once in a lifetime fight. Live on Saturday, September 13, streaming globally on Netflix, two of the GREATEST boxers in the sport will meet in a historic fight from Las Vegas.'
Ahead of the mouthwatering event, Alvarez and Crawford will stage a three-city international press tour, kicking off in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Friday, June 20 before heading to the United States for stops in New York at Fanatics Fest on Sunday, June 22 and in Las Vegas on Friday, June 27. 'Saul' has been a dominant force since losing to Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2013. He has recently scored wins over Scull, Edgar Berlanga, Jaime Munguia, Jermell Charlo, and John Ryder. Meanwhile, Crawford, has not fought since defeating Israil Madrimov last August. The 37-year-old will be moving up two weight classes to challenge Alvarez.

Boxing fans issue instant response to Tyson Fury comeback opponent
Fury has announced that he will be making a sensational return to the ring to face Usyk in a trilogy bout - but boxing fans have been left fuming with the news Tyson Fury has stirred up a storm among boxing fans after seemingly confirming trilogy showdown with Oleksandr Usyk. The 'Gypsy King' has been toying with the idea of a comeback, and on Wednesday evening, almost half a year since he declared his retirement, the 36-year-old confirmed at another return to boxing. Saudi boxing supremo, Turki Alalshikh, took to X - the platform formerly known as Twitter - to announce: "The 'Gypsy King' will be back!!! I talked with him, and I have his word to have him in Riyadh Season in have a rabbit to hunt!" Fury then shared this message on his own page, teasing, "Let's see what 2026 brings," accompanied by a string of dollar sign emojis and laughing faces. Fury has mockingly referred to Usyk as 'rabbit' before their previous encounters. The Morecambe brawler now claims that the trilogy fight is set for April 18, 2026, at Wembley Stadium. On Thursday morning, Fury posted on Instagram a promotional poster featuring himself and Usyk, captioned: "April 18, 2026 Wembley Stadium. The trilogy! UK. contact @spencerbrownmrgoldstar for tickets." Following the official announcement of the trilogy bout on Instagram, supporters were swift to voice their opinions, reports All Out Fighting. "Woohoo... The fight no one wants to see," one fan commented. Another added: "Don't really see the point in this trilogy. Fury could knock Usyk out first round and Usyk would still have the better record both in and out of the trilogy." A third responded: "Trilogies should only happen if there are questions that need to be answered from the first two fights. All the questions have been answered," whilst another remarked: "Just fight AJ ffs. No one wants to watch you lose again to Usyk." A fifth posted: "What's the point? Fought twice, well beaten twice." A sixth replied: "The fight nobody asked for," while another commented: "No way, we don't need this fight please." Fury initially lost to Usyk on points last May, before enduring another decision defeat back in December. The Brit's trilogy with the Ukrainian depends on the result of this month's heavyweight undisputed clash. Should 'Triple D' emerge victorious - Usyk may opt to trigger the immediate rematch which could scupper Fury's chances of a comeback. Earlier this week, the 36-year-old disclosed that the only bout that would inspire him to return is a trilogy fight with Usyk. "If I was going to come back I'd come back for Usyk," he said. "In England. That's the one I want immediately, that would be the fight I want next. In England for sure."

Lorraine Kelly fumes as 7/7 London bombings survivor shares NHS blunder
Lorraine Kelly interviewed Thelma Stober, survivor of the 7/7 London bombings, during the latest instalment of her ITV show ITV's Lorraine featured Thelma Stober, a survivor of the 7/7 London bombings, on Thursday (3 July) for a deeply moving interview. Thelma appeared alongside presenter Lorraine Kelly to discuss Netflix's latest docuseries, Attack on London: Hunting the 7/7 Bombers, sharing candidly about her personal ordeal and the lasting effects of the atrocities. Thelma was travelling on the Aldgate tube during the morning of 7 July 2005, when terror struck London. Four individual suicide attackers detonated explosives across the capital, with three bombs exploding at underground stations whilst another was set off on a bus, claiming 52 lives and wounding more than 770 people. "I was told subsequently by the police following investigation that I was actually standing next to the bomber," Thelma disclosed, explaining that whilst asked whether she recalls that precise moment, she doesn't, as she was engrossed in reading a book. She continued: "I was aware of people around me, but not aware at all." Thelma remembered attempting to send a text message upon reaching Liverpool Street, but she heard sudden sounds and witnessed flashes before regaining consciousness on the railway track, reports the Express. Throughout the interview, Thelma discussed how communities united in response, with Lorraine highlighting how the attacks had transformed London as a metropolis. The presenter remarked: "It was so interesting, actually very heartening, Thelma, in the days, weeks and months after this, people really came together. London gets criticised for being a city where nobody talks to one another and keeps people at a distance, but I really noticed that. "I remember that vividly, the way that people were making eye contact. There was a care there for one another." Thelma then shared her experience with her prosthetic limb, explaining how after an NHS error, public donations helped her acquire the correct prosthetic. "Absolutely. I was given a limb that did not match my skin tone by the NHS," she told Lorraine. "It was the generosity of the public that money was collected by what is now the London Emergencies Trust, who came to my rescue - because although I'm a fighter, I did not have the energy at the time to fight the NHS - to give me money which was used to purchase a limb which matched my skin tone." Lorraine responded with shock, saying: "Oh, for goodness' sake! I've spoken to people who have come back, soldiers coming back from Afghanistan, and they've had the same thing happen back then. "Things have changed, thanks to the likes of yourself. But, as if things aren't bad enough, you should not have to deal with that. That's ridiculous!" Daily Record has contacted the NHS for a comment. In a poignant declaration, Thelma pledged her unwavering determination, asserting: "We will fight against terrorism, we will never be defeated." She continued with heartfelt resolve: "And, for the lives of the 52 people, who, in a reckless, senseless attack, lost their lives, I will never give up. We will never give up." Catch Lorraine on weekdays at 9am on ITV1.
