PAS man mulls legal action after fallout from FB post
PETALING JAYA: A PAS division leader who suggested that Malaysia will have its first Chinese prime minister by 2058 is considering legal action against a political leader.
Sungai Buloh PAS division chief Zaharudin Muhammad, who is also the son-in-law to PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, claims that DAP deputy secretary-general Steven Sim as well as a news portal "spun" his now-deleted Facebook posting with the initial remarks.

'I never intended to criticise the appointment of Datuk Johnny Lim Eng Seng as the Army's first Chinese Lieutenant General.
'Sim and the website have spun my original posting, which included a photo of Lim for illustrative purposes,' he said in a new Facebook posting Thursday (June 26).
He went on to say that DAP has been pushing its "Malaysian Malaysia" concept, which includes the possibility of a non-Malay prime minister.
'They know that I am strongly against that and based on this prejudice, they immediately interpreted my post according to their prejudice,' Zaharudin said.
He added that he deleted his original posting after a barrage of negative comments from cybertroopers – not because he was afraid of the legal implications.

'I will speak to my lawyers about taking action against the website, which spun my original post, and I will also discuss... possible legal action against Sim,' he said.
In his original post, the PAS man suggested that Malaysia would have its first Chinese prime minister by 2058 following the appointment of Lim as Lieutenant General.
Sim, who is also Human Resources Minister, then said he was upset by Zaharudin's remarks, as Lim's appointment was being disputed merely because he was Chinese.
Lim, a Melaka-born officer, has served in the military for 41 years and said he joined in 1984 to help in the effort against insurgents.

DAP hopes Tengku Maimun, Abang Iskandar will be given tenure extension
KUALA LUMPUR: DAP hopes the government will extend the tenures of Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat and Court of Appeal President Tan Sri Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim. In a statement today, the party's Central Working Committee (CWC) said this was in accordance with the Federal Constitution, adding that both judges had performed their duties impeccably and with utmost integrity. While acknowledging that such extensions were not a matter of right, the committee said, past senior judges were given similar extensions upon reaching mandatory retirement age and saw no reason why the same shouldn't apply to the current chief justice and Court of Appeal president. "The CWC recently held a discussion regarding several matters of national importance. It must be stressed that the DAP's support of the extensions of the said judges is not, in any way, an attempt to politicise the matter. "This is as a result of a genuine recognition of their contributions to the development and reform of the Judiciary, which is one of the key priorities of the Madani government," it said today. Given their contributions and performances, CWC said, it was in the view that extending the tenures of both top judges would enhance the government's commitment to strengthening the judiciary and improving its administration. The committee also said merit should remain a central consideration in both judicial appointments and the extension of service. "We further note that there will be many vacancies left in the Federal Court due to the recent and impending retirements of judges. "This makes it all the more important to retain the current chief justice and president of the Court of Appeal to ensure a smooth transition of new appointees to the Federal Court in due course," it said. Tengku Maimun's term is set to end today, while Abang Iskandar is set to retire tomorrow.

MCMC investigates individual over racist social media post in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has taken action against an individual for uploading racially offensive content on social media. The commission confirmed that a statement was recorded and a mobile phone along with a SIM card were seized to assist in the investigation. The offensive post is believed to be linked to the recent appointment of a new Lieutenant General in the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF). Authorities stated that the content contained racial remarks that could provoke unrest and threaten national unity. 'Following this incident, the individual was called in to give his statement and assist in the investigation,' MCMC said in a statement. The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries a penalty of up to RM500,000 in fines, two years' imprisonment, or both if convicted. MCMC also reminded the public to avoid sharing or spreading content that touches on sensitive issues related to religion, race, or royal institutions (3Rs). The commission emphasized that such material could divide society and disrupt national harmony. 'MCMC remains committed to ensuring the country's cyberspace remains safe, secure, and respected, in line with efforts to strengthen national unity and harmony among Malaysia's multiracial society,' the statement added. Earlier reports highlighted the historic promotion of Datuk Johnny Lim Eng Seng as the first Chinese senior officer to attain the rank of Lieutenant General in the MAF.

PAS Youth division nominates VP Amar for party's No 2 post

(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : The youth wing of a PAS division in Kelantan has nominated party vice-president Amar Abdullah as a candidate for the deputy president's post when the party holds its elections in September. Pengkalan Chepa PAS Youth information chief Sazwan Sakri said Amar, the former Kelantan deputy menteri besar, had extensive experience and has showcased strong leadership at divisional, state and central level. Sazwan said Amar has also played a major role in guiding the next generation of PAS leaders in the Islamic party's struggle, Utusan Malaysia reported. 'The nomination is not aimed at sparking a tussle for party posts, but to recognise the big role he has played. It also reflects the maturity of Pengkalan Chepa PAS Youth in courteously expressing support (for Amar),' he was quoted as saying. In February, a PAS source told FMT that the party is likely to hold a contest for its top two posts at its elections this year, for the first time in a decade. PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man have not been challenged for the posts since the 2015 party polls. Speculation about Hadi stepping down due to health reasons has been making the rounds. At the same time, there are rumours that Tuan Ibrahim, who is Pahang opposition leader, also intends to make way for new leadership, although there have been calls from the pro-ulama faction for him to defend his post and seek re-election as PAS deputy president.
