Louisville detective shares final wishes before passing from cancer battle
On Tuesday, June 10, the Louisville Metro Police Foundation announced the death of Detective Michelle Rusch after over a decade of serving the Louisville community through the Crimes Against Children Unit.

'The loss of Detective Rusch is deeply felt throughout our department. She was not only a respected colleague but also a cherished friend. Her absence leaves a void that cannot be filled,' the Louisville Metro Police Department said.
She was recently recognized by the Children's Advocacy Centers of Kentucky and Attorney General Russell Coleman as a Legendary Partner of 2025. The foundation said this was 'a powerful reminder of the lives she touched and the difference she made.'
Rusch's husband, Kent, also serves as a detective for the department.
'Together, Michelle and Kent are the embodiment of service, two heroes who gave so much to protect others, all while raising three wonderful children,' the foundation wrote.
In her final days, the foundation said that Rusch affirmed she only had two wishes.

'That she be remembered for all the good work she had done with the LMPD and that her family would be taken care of,' the Louisville Metro Police Foundation wrote. 'We are asking for your help to make her wishes come true, to honor her legacy, and to support the family she loved so much.'

Arrieta's suspension, announced Saturday, will be served Aug 2-16. The stewards in their ruling described Arrieta's actions as "extremely careless." Conner and his mount Stanza were improving position while leaving the far turn in the Race 7 when they were shut off by Arrieta aboard Montador, according to the Equibase chart. Stanza clipped heels, stumbled, and fell, injuring Conner. Montador went on to win the race but was disqualified and placed last. The New Kent, Va. track canceled the remainder of the July 24 card. Conner suffered a broken nose and a fractured C1 vertebra, the first vertebra under the skull. He is in intensive care at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center. Police take action against anti-social behaviour
Police in east Kent have imposed another weekend public dispersal order to prevent anti-social behaviour. The order gives officers the power to move on anyone over the age of 10 if they are causing a nuisance, and arrest them if they refuse. It covers Whitstable and Herne Bay and is in effect from 25 to 27 July. It is the latest in a series of operations by the force which, it said, has seen 30 people moved on in a previous weekend. It said 29 of those were people between the ages of 11 and 18, who were moved on during the evening of 18 July. A 14-year-old boy was moved on after reports of damage to a shelter in Marine Parade, Whitstable. The latest order covers the coast between Seasalter Beach and Saxon Shore Way. Ch Insp Paul Stoner said: "We are determined that nobody should be subjected to the actions of others which makes them feel harassed, alarmed or distressed. "Officers have been challenging those who carry out nuisance behaviour and anyone who is under 18 can also expect their parents to be contacted about their actions." Nothing has been done to tackle violence against women – son of murdered artist
The son of an artist who was murdered in a random attack as she walked her dog has said 'nothing has actually been done' to tackle violence against women. Claire Knights, 54, from Upstreet near Canterbury, was walking back from a beach near Minnis Bay in Kent when she was ambushed, sexually assaulted, and beaten to death by a stranger on August 23 2023. Harrison Lawrence Van-Pooss, 21, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 25-and-a-half years in February – but on Friday, judges sitting at the Court of Appeal increased his minimum term to 31 years, having found his original sentence 'unduly lenient'. The court heard Van-Pooss had been dismissed from his job the day before Ms Knights' murder for upskirting a woman at the pub where he worked, and is believed to have camped out overnight on the beach at Minnis Bay waiting for a lone woman to attack, The Times further reported. Ms Knights' son, Elliott Knights-Sloane, now 26, found his mother's body hidden in a dyke two days after she was reported missing. He told The Times: 'No son should have to find their mum in such a situation. 'I felt crushed that her life was taken away in such horrific circumstances. 'She was an incredible mum, a role model for me. She was just coming back from the beach.' Mr Knights-Sloane further told The Times he 'really struggled' with the lack of public outcry surrounding his mother's murder, adding: 'Why aren't people more incensed that someone can be walking their dog and that this can happen to them?' Reflecting on how the issue of violence against women and girls appears to have dropped down the agenda, he said: 'Nothing has actually been done to change anything. 'There's nothing that makes any women safer, or solves anything, other than telling them, 'You shouldn't be out on your own. Don't walk the dog. Look at what you're wearing.'' Also speaking to The Times, criminologist David Wilson warned that 'overkill' – when an assailant uses disproportionate force to control and overpower a victim, potentially resulting in death – is on the rise. 'Now, it's relatively common,' he said. 'What has changed is the mainstreaming of misogyny. 'A lot of young men are influenced by incel culture, the toxic manosphere, the sense of entitlement that women should be available to them, that they should take what is naturally theirs — to overpower and have sex with them.'
