Police: Man crashes, carjacks vehicle, leads Kentucky troopers on chase
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (FOX 56) — An Illinois man was arrested Sunday after allegedly being chased by Kentucky State Police. According to a news release, Kentucky State Police were responding to a collision with a possible injury on Interstate 65 near mile marker 30. He was allegedly involved in a wreck and later carjacked a black Subaru Forester to drive from the scene, according to the release. Kentucky State Police said Smith was later seen north on US 31 West, but he allegedly ignored the stop and continued until he stopped on the northbound on-ramp to Interstate 65 in Park City. Smith was charged with: Speeding (20 MPH over the speed limit) Reckless driving First-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle) Leaving the scene of an accident—failure to render aid or assistance Carjacking (attempt) TBUT (over $10,000 but less than $1,000,000) Two counts of first-degree criminal mischief Resisting arrest DUI Fourth-degree assault He was lodged at the Warren County Regional Jail. LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Gov. Andy Beshear has opened the state's Emergency Operations Center ahead of 'No Kings' protests on Saturday. Seeing protests ramp up across the country, Beshear said they will be monitoring situations as information comes in and coordinating resources for any area that might need it. 'If you're going out to protest on Saturday, that is your right. Again, make sure it stays peaceful, and I would recommend everyone wrap it up before dark. Kentucky Kroger closes aisle after possible rodent infestation
LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — A possible rodent infestation is being investigated at a Louisville Kroger store. WDRB reported that the Louisville Health Department is investigating the Goss Avenue Kroger after evidence of a rodent infestation was found in three aisles, including bread and pasta products. LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Thousands of 'No Kings' rallies are expected to take place this weekend. More than 20 are planned in the Bluegrass, including Lexington. The protest will take place on Saturday at 12 at Lexington's Robert F. Kennedy Stephens Federal Courthouse Plaza. Kentuckians rally to support World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
FRANKFORT, Ky. (FOX 56) — State leaders and advocates for the older population are taking a stand against adult maltreatment in Kentucky, which includes Kentuckians in the older population. World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is June 15, and advocates packed the Capitol Rotunda on Friday to get the momentum going for this initiative. Chris Clements came to plant flags to represent some of his family members. 'I planted a flag in honor of my father, Keith Clements, and also one for my mother-in-law, who are two very important older adults in our family,' Clements said. Clements is with the Louisville-based organization Blueprint 502. Specifically, he's involved in Project Warm, where he works with older adults. We want to let them know that we are thinking of them, appreciate them, and we love them so much,' Clements said. Another big topic of discussion was health care and meals, which Governor Andy Beshear said he supports, even signing a proclamation making June Elder Abuse and Exploitation Awareness Month. 'Our seniors deserve respect, and they deserve our care. Together, we can ensure that every senior has the resources and the opportunity to live a long, full, and happy life,' Beshear said. Even the younger generation is joining in, with students from Bath County High School like junior Wrangler Helton also taking it on himself to serve those older.
