Harimau Malaya's Late Withdrawal Cause Distruptions To CAFA Nations Cup 2025
As CAFA are aware the reason from the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) that the tournament does not fully fall within the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) window (Sept 1-9) which caused the restrictions of players availability, it said the final registration of players can actually be submitted on a match-by-match basis.
'As per the tournament regulations, the final registration of players - selected from a preliminary list of 35 - can be submitted on a match-by-match basis.

'This allows for maximum flexibility, including the possibility of key players joining the team for subsequent matches,' it said in a statement today.
CAFA also said that previously Malaysia's participation had been confirmed well in advance, with full awareness of the tournament dates as well as schedule and those dates had never been changed from the beginning.
Earlier today, FAM in a statement announced that the decision was made following the change in match dates falling outside the FIFA international window, posing challenges in terms of logistics, player availability and overall squad preparation.
Despite Malaysia's withdrawal, CAFA remained committed to delivering a high-quality and competitive tournament for the people of Central Asia and beyond.
'We thank all participating nations for their continued support and cooperation,' it said.
World number 125 Malaysia are supposed to play in Group B with the hosts, Tajikistan, reigning champion Iran and Afghanistan.

Confusion over Kelantan team's rebranding draws FIFA's attention
PETALING JAYA: The rebranding confusion involving several Kelantan football teams has attracted the attention of the world football governing body FIFA. It had issued a show-cause letter to Kelantan Red Warrior (KRW), who were set to compete in the Semi-Pro League A1. The letter requests clarification about KRW's identity and how it differs from earlier Kelantan-based teams, especially Kelantan FC, which was previously owned by entrepreneur Norizman Tukiman and still has unresolved debts. Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) general secretary Datuk Noor Azman Rahman confirmed on Sunday (July 27) that they had received a letter from FIFA and handed it over to KRW on Friday. "Yes, we received a letter from FIFA regarding Kelantan KRW and have forwarded it to them for further action. "I can't disclose further details, but the issue is not related to player claims. It is linked to a previous club, Kelantan FC. "FIFA have identified certain concerns, which may be connected to the former team," said Azman. The deadline for KRW to respond to FIFA's letter was on Monday (July 28). KRW was established in December last year by Nik Hafiz Naim Nik Hassan, who was previously a co-owner of Kelantan FC alongside Zamsaham. It was understood that the similarity in logo, team identity and even jersey design between KRW and the defunct Kelantan FC was among the reasons FIFA requested clarification. Kelantan FC were effectively dissolved last year after being relegated from the 2023 Super League. The team were also barred from competing in last season's A1 Semi-Pro League due to heavy debts. Former team president Tan Sri Annuar Musa later revived Kelantan's presence in the Super League by introducing a new identity under the name Kelantan The Real Warriors.

FAM protests upside down Jalur Gemilang incident in Jakarta
THE Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has lodged an official protest with the Asian Football Federation (AFF) and Asian Football Confederation (AFC) following the disrespectful display of the Jalur Gemilang by Indonesian fans. The incident occurred during the ASEAN Under-23 Cup match in Jakarta earlier this week. FAM secretary-general Datuk Noor Azman Rahman confirmed the protest was submitted two days ago. 'We have sent a protest to the AFF and a copy to the AFC. This matter has caused discomfort for supporters and Malaysians,' he said. The viral images showed the Malaysian flag held upside down and defaced by Indonesian supporters at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium. Noor Azman added that FAM is awaiting an official response from both AFF and AFC regarding potential disciplinary action against those involved or the tournament organisers. In related news, FAM confirmed that Bukit Jalil National Stadium will host Harimau Malaya's upcoming international friendlies against Singapore and Palestine in September. These matches will serve as crucial preparation ahead of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers in October. - Bernama

Save the Malayan Tiger campaign raises RM2.1 million since 2021
SHAH ALAM: The 'Save the Malayan Tiger' campaign has collected RM2.1 million in donations since its launch in 2021, according to acting Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani. He credited the success to strategic partnerships, including the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), which contributed RM200,000 through match ticket sales. 'I would like to thank FAM for their support,' he said during the national-level Global Tiger Day celebration. The event was attended by Peninsular Malaysia Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) director-general Datuk Abdul Kadir Abu Hashim and FAM president Datuk Mohd Joehari Mohd Ayub. Johari, also Minister of Plantation and Commodities, highlighted the Cabinet's approval in 2021 of a 10-year conservation plan for the Malayan tiger. The strategy focuses on halting population decline, improving governance, and ensuring long-term survival. Perhilitan's monitoring, supported by NGOs, indicates a rising tiger population, signaling progress in conservation efforts. Malaysia is also seeking 'Conservation Assured Tiger Standards' accreditation for Taman Negara and Endau Rompin National Park. Additionally, Perhilitan aims to secure ASEAN Heritage Park status for the Tengku Hassanal Wildlife Reserve. - Bernama
