SIPITANG: A single mother who lost her home in a fire just a day before Aidiladha celebrations in 2024 received a new one under the Program Perumahan Rakyat Sejahtera (PPRS). Baidah Amit from Kampung Lumut was among the recipients of the PPRS housing assistance, which aims to provide safe and comfortable shelter for those affected by unforeseen disasters.
Advertisement Sipitang Umno Division Chief Abd Rahman Mat Noh said the housing assistance application successfully enabled the victim to own a PPRS home after losing her previous residence to fire last year. The programme is part of rural poverty eradication initiatives that provide new construction or home repair assistance to the poor and hardcore poor to ensure they have safe and comfortable housing. 'With this housing assistance, they can now shelter comfortably without worrying about strong winds, rain or heat,' said Abd Rahman. He hopes the victim would overcome her trauma and find joy in the government's concern by providing housing to those affected by uninvited disasters.
Advertisement Abd Rahman acknowledged that while the new house may not be identical to the one destroyed by fire, the recipients should be grateful for the PPRS home contributed by the government. He said anyone can apply for PPRS housing but must follow established procedures, assuring the public that there is no favouritism or discrimination in distributing government aid. 'We are grateful for their patience in waiting for the PPRS house, but what matters is that they received the home, which brings them joy over the government's assistance,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Shahelmey stresses grassroots role in Sabah Maju Jaya plan success

Published on: Monday, June 30, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jun 30, 2025 Text Size: 'This is to ensure that any problems can be brought forward for resolution, and it highlights the importance of two-way engagement between the people and responsible authorities on the ground,' Shahelmey said. PUTATAN: The people have been urged to continue serving as the 'eyes and ears' of the State Government in realising the goals of governance and ensuring socio-economic balance across Sabah. Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya said a holistic partnership between grassroots communities and the government was vital, particularly in the ongoing implementation of the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) development plan. 'Whatever issues arise in your respective areas, I encourage the community to stay in close communication with agencies such as UPPM, JPKK, JKDM and others. 'This is to ensure that any problems can be brought forward for resolution, and it highlights the importance of two-way engagement between the people and responsible authorities on the ground,' he said. Shahelmey, who is also the Tanjung Keramat Assemblyman, was speaking at the launch of the Semangat Madani Tanjung Keramat programme held at Dewan Serbaguna Muhibbah in Taman Jumbo, here, Saturday. Earlier, the community-focused programme saw the participation of over 100 residents from various age groups who took part in a range of activities. Among the highlights were a neighbourhood gotong-royong (communal clean-up) and a colouring competition for children in the area. Commenting on the event, Shahelmey said the active involvement of the local community reflected growing awareness of the importance of maintaining cleanliness and safety in their surroundings. 'With initiatives like this, participants not only strengthen community bonds but also build greater awareness about keeping the environment clean, safe and harmonious. 'This aligns well with the State Government's call for unity among all levels of society in order to foster more resilient and competitive communities in the future,' he added. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Kota Kinabalu: An experienced hiker said it is not surprising to read about climbers suffering injuries while tackling Mount Kinabalu as they probably take Malaysia's highest peak for granted.
