US farm agency fires 70 foreign researchers after national security review
The US Department of Agriculture said it has fired 70 foreign contract researchers after a national security review intended to secure the US food supply from adversaries including China, Russia, North Korea and Iran. Brazil police search ex-president Bolsonaro's home, political headquarters
Brazil's federal police searched former president Jair Bolsonaro's house and political headquarters on Friday, adding to the legal pressure that US President Donald Trump has tried to end by threatening a steep tariff on Brazilian goods. Bolsonaro's press office reported the searches but gave no further details. Police in a statement said they had issued search warrants ordered by the country's Supreme Court, but did not name Bolsonaro, who governed Latin America's largest country from 2019 to 2022. Lawmakers from Bolsonaro's right-wing Liberal Party said the former president had been ordered to wear an ankle monitor, stop using social media and cease communications with diplomats.
