Ryan McGill, Chris Taylor among big departures as New Jersey Devils rebuild coaching staff
The New Jersey Devils made a series of coaching announcements this week as they began to rebuild the roster after last season, when the team posted a 42-33-7 mark and went to the playoffs. The Devils have confirmed Ryan McGill and Chris Taylor, their assistant coaches, will not have contract extensions. Their exits are a dramatic change of direction as the Devils aim to enhance their performance and cash in on a playoff return that followed a disappointing 2023-24 campaign.
Along with those changes, the organization also released long-time head video coach Jerry Dineen, who was a mainstay in the organization for years. And David Cunniff, assistant coach for the Devils' AHL affiliate Utica Comets, won't be returning after the Comets' 31-33-6-2 season relegated them to the bottom of the North Division.
The Devils emphasized that efforts to find replacements have already begun as part of their bigger plan to get the team's roster leaner by the start of next season in the NHL. From a solid foundation of quality assets like
Jack Hughes
and Nico Hischier, there is great expectation in Newark, and perhaps this refashioning of the coaching staff will prove to be the ace that pushes the team deeper into the realm of playoff contention.

IND vs ENG 5th Test Live Updates Day 2: Tall task ahead for Karun, Washington as India look for total close to 300

India vs England 5th Test Live Updates Day 2: IND vs ENG:nThe fast-and-furious fifth Test match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at the Oval had a choppy start, as typically soggy weather in London meant only 64 overs were bowled. Plenty of action even on a shortened first day, however: England were able to take 6 wickets, not letting any Indian batter get truly More India didn't do too badly either, all things considered, putting on 204 runs with players such as Sai Sudharsan impressing in a solid defensive showing. However, the issue for India was the inability for any of their batters to convert their starts into bigger scores, as Sudharsan was dismissed on 38, and Shubman Gill ran himself out while batting on 21. Only one batter truly shone on day 1, and it was a long time coming for this man: Karun Nair, for the first time in 9 years, registered a 50+ score in Test cricket, only for the second time following his famous 303* in 2016. Karun Nair has an ability to go big, but lapses of focus and poor shots after getting set have been his undoing on this tour. As far as India are concerned, Karun will need to be safe and ensures he bats really deep, with the team already six wickets down and last to their final partnership. The good thing for India is that they have a truly sensational number eight to accompany Karun. Washington Sundar, fresh off his maiden century in Test cricket, will occupy the crease early on a day that will truly test his technique. A lot will be riding on their shoulders on another day that will be overcast and tricky to bat on with not much batting to follow. However, a focus for India will also be on their bowling: will Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep and company be tighter and more threatening with the ball than their English counterparts? They have a surface that will suit their strengths, but to capitalise on that is a completely different matter altogether.

Injury blow for ENG! Woakes may miss remainder of fifth Test at The Oval

England have suffered a major setback in the final Test against India at The Oval, with all-rounder Chris Woakes facing the prospect of missing the remainder of the match due to a suspected shoulder injury. After enjoying a strong start with the ball on Day 1 of the final Test of the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, reducing the visitors to 204 for 6 by stumps, England may now have to play the rest of the match effectively with only 10 players. Although the England team management has yet to issue an official update on Woakes's condition, his teammate Gus Atkinson told reporters during the post-day press conference that the injury 'looks bad' and that Woakes is unlikely to take the field again during the match. How Woakes got injured The incident occurred late on Day 1 when Woakes sprinted from mid-off to stop a boundary-bound drive from Karun Nair. On the damp Oval outfield, Woakes slipped and landed awkwardly on his left shoulder. He was seen grimacing in pain and clutching his arm, and received immediate medical attention on the field. Later, he was seen with his arm inside his sweater, using it as an improvised sling, before leaving the ground and not returning for the rest of the day. Gus Atkinson reacts to Woakes's injury Gus Atkinson, who returned to the side for this Test after a long gap, expressed concern for Woakes after play. 'I don't know too much about it, but it doesn't look great. It's the last game of the series, and it's a shame when anyone gets injured. We're all hoping it's not too serious, and whatever it is, he'll have everyone's full support,' Atkinson said. He added that, as one of the fresher bowlers in the side, he is ready to shoulder additional responsibility if required, but acknowledged the magnitude of Woakes's absence for the team.
