The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, also known as the Hawks, has arrested a 27-year-old Limpopo man for fraud after he allegedly acquired a top-of-the-range Ford Raptor fraudulently.
The 27-year-old man who cannot be identified until he appears in court was nabbed by the Hawks' serious commercial crime investigation unit and the Sekhukhune tracing team at Groblersdal in Limpopo.
'It is alleged that during April 2023, the accused applied for motor vehicle finance at WesBank to purchase a Ford Ranger Raptor valued at over R1.3 million.
'The accused allegedly attached the bank statement and the employer's payslip as requested,' said Warrant Officer Lethunya Mmuroa, spokesperson for the Hawks in Limpopo.
'The application was processed and approved.'
The dealership then contacted the 27-year-old man and notified him that his application had been successful.

'He went to the dealership in Polokwane to collect the car, accompanied by two men who are also suspects,' said Mmuroa.
As days went by, the 27-year-old man failed to make the monthly installments for the vehicle. The bank tried to contact him without success.
'WesBank conducted a forensic audit and noticed that the accused used fraudulent documents during his application. The matter was reported to the Hawks' serious commercial crime investigation in Polokwane for assistance,' said Mmuroa.
Investigations were conducted by the Hawks, which led to the arrest of the first accused person in the matter in January 2024.
'Further investigations revealed that the arrested suspect, aged 27, assisted the accused to defraud and collect the vehicle from the dealership,' said Mmuroa.
'The suspect is expected to appear before the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court, sitting in Polokwane, on 28 July 2025.'
Meanwhile, provincial head of the Hawks in Limpopo, Major General Gopz Govender has welcomed the arrest of the suspect.
A Limpopo woman, Thandaza Lubisi was arrested for allegedly using fake documents to get her Hyundai Atos financed by a car dealership in Tzaneen.

In 2023, IOL reported that a Limpopo woman, aged 22, was sentenced to pay R10 000 or spend two years in jail after she used fraudulent documents to buy a Hyundai Atos.
At the time, Hawks in Limpopo, Lieutenant-Colonel Matimba Maluleke said the Hyundai Atos valued at over R340 000 was financed by Wesbank in 2022.
'Miranda Thandaza Lubisi was sentenced for fraud by the Polokwane Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on 12 May, 2023,' Matimba said.
'On 16 September, 2022, the accused visited a vehicle dealership in Tzaneen and showed interest in a Hyundai Atos valued at R346 122. The accused was assisted by the salesperson at the dealership to apply for vehicle finance that was later approved by Wesbank.'
Maluleke said the vehicle was delivered to Lubisi.
'After a few months, the bank was audited and it was discovered that the accused used fraudulent documents to apply for vehicle finance. The case of fraud was opened at Tzaneen police station and transferred to the Hawks' serious commercial crime investigation unit for further handling,' he said.
A thorough investigation was conducted, and consequently, the accused was arrested and charged with fraud.
After a few court appearances, she was granted bail until she was convicted and sentenced to pay R10 000 or two years' imprisonment,' Maluleke said.
'She was further sentenced to five years imprisonment which is suspended for five years on condition that she does not commit similar offences during the suspension period.'

"Of late, several major clandestine drug labs have been discovered, with many arrests, and amongst them, Mexican citizens. The busts in the Durban harbour, with the recent revelations of Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi, shed some light on why we do not see many arrests of kingpins. 'South Africa, with its porous borders, became a haven for these cartels to operate, and porous borders do not only refer to understaffed and ill-equipped ports of entry, but also to compromised state-embedded actors.' 'We believe that the current shake-up within the law-and-order environment may lead to many more arrests and also the exposure of the state-embedded actors that facilitated and gained from this illicit trade,' he added. Panyaza Lesufi reshuffles department heads after damning audit report
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has taken tough action taken against departmental heads following the release of a damning forensic report revealing that at least R1.8 billion in budget underspending and missed service delivery targets in the province. On Sunday, Lesufi addressed the media on the outcomes of the recently concluded a set of forensic investigation reports, which have been finalised by the Provincial Forensic Audit Unit. This latest release follows an earlier briefing held on 24 June 2025, where the Premier made public the outcomes of 47 forensic reports. "On the 17th of July, I responded to matters from our ethical council that responded to members or heads of departments who could not finish or conclude their lifestyle audits. I also indicated on the 17th of July that there were departments that underspent seriously. The total underspending at the time was R1.8 billion. It has now gone to R1.3 billion after the authorisation of some of the transactions that we requested be carried over. To me, this was a serious underspending by heads of departments. Some departments have missed their departmental performance targets, and we took serious exception," he said. Lesufi said some of the reasons are due to service delivery challenges, and as a result, he has acted to ensure that this does not continue. "With the serious challenges of service delivery, we cannot afford departments that are missing their targets. We also found some audit outcomes, which indicated that some departments are not performing ideally. Within that context, I have decided to reshuffle and reset heads of departments and remove other heads of departments from their responsibilities. From the 1st of August," he stated. Responding to Lesufi, the DA Provincial Chief Whip in the Gauteng Legislature, Mike Moriarty stated: "Our experience is that this Premier has the habit of creating positive spin to cover failure. For example, he refers to having previously issued 47 such reports, and now he is following this up with others. "The fact is, we have examined those previous reports, and indeed, they only relate to 37 cases and not the 47 that he claims. Moreover, these reports are heavily redacted and convey no information as regards people implicated therein and give no details regarding the disciplinary and criminal consequences that should have arisen in this case." Lesufi said the affected changes and reshuffle to HODs and other personnel, include e-government, infrastructure, education, treasury, COGTA, transport, human settlements, agriculture, environmental development, education, health, among others. "I am pleased that I have appointed a new HOD for the Department of Economic Development, Mr Matlatjo Moholwa, who brings a wealth of experience into public service. He has served as part of economic research and chief economist in the City of Johannesburg and the lead economist for the Land Bank, and Deputy Director General in Mpumalanga and the Gauteng Department of Economic Development. With the challenges that we are going to have with the US in terms of the tariffs, and the need for us to reposition the economy of Gauteng, we needed a chief economist to lead us in this department," he stated.
