Tim Cook Kicks Off WWDC 2025 by Honouring Swift Student Winners and Innovators Past
In a heartfelt post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Cook shared a video clip of his interaction with the students, captioning it: 'Love starting #WWDC25 with our Swift Student Challenge winners!' The Swift Student Challenge recognizes talented young coders from around the world. In 2025, 50 Distinguished Winners have been invited to Apple Park for an exclusive three-day immersive experience.
The conference will not only celebrate student innovation but also spotlight Apple's upcoming software updates. Viewers around the globe can tune into the keynote via apple.com, the Apple TV app, and YouTube, with replays available on demand. More than 1,000 developers and students are also gathering in person at Apple Park to mark the event's opening.
Following the keynote, Apple will host its Platforms State of the Union at 1 PM PDT (June 9). This session, aimed at developers, will delve deeper into the new tools and capabilities across Apple's software platforms. The presentation will stream on the Apple Developer app, Apple's website, and YouTube.
What's Coming in WWDC 2025?
This year's WWDC is expected to feature significant software updates, including:
iOS 19
iPadOS 19
macOS 16
watchOS 12
tvOS 19
visionOS 3
Reports suggest a visual redesign is on the cards, with frosted glass effects, layered translucency, and softer color schemes, drawing inspiration from the interface of Apple Vision Pro.
Tech enthusiasts are also looking forward to updates in Apple Intelligence. With AI dominating the tech landscape, Apple is under increasing pressure to demonstrate meaningful enhancements in its ecosystem that go beyond last year's promises. Throughout the week, developers will benefit from over 100 technical sessions, group labs, and one-on-one consultations with Apple engineers.
A Tribute to a Visionary
While looking forward to the future, Tim Cook also took a moment to honour the past. The Apple CEO shared a moving tribute to Bill Atkinson, one of the original designers who shaped the iconic Macintosh graphical user interface. Atkinson passed away last week, and his contributions continue to influence the computing world today.
Cook wrote: 'We are deeply saddened by the passing of Bill Atkinson. He was a true visionary whose creativity, heart, and groundbreaking work on the Mac will forever inspire us. Our thoughts are with his loved ones.'
As the WWDC 2025 begins, the blend of honouring legacy, nurturing young talent, and launching the next generation of software underscores Apple's enduring mission: to innovate while staying rooted in its core values.

Video of Trump promoting Bitcoin at a NATO summit is a crypto scam
Crypto scammers are running deepfake videos of U.S. President Donald Trump as YouTube Live videos, in what seems to be an attempt to steal investors' Bitcoin. Multiple 'live' YouTube videos featured Mr. Trump at what seemed to be a NATO press event. There, he was seen urging viewers to scan a QR code on the screen and send their Bitcoin to the specified location in order to get back double the amount. The background of the video looked just like that of the NATO's summit in the Netherlands on June 25. However, media outlets did not report on the U.S. President promoting any Bitcoin giveaways at the time. The videos were also not shared by any official White House channels. In some such videos, Mr. Trump incorrectly refers to himself as the 45th U.S. President. The provided links also change across some videos. Throughout the morphed video, which had a QR code and instructions saying 'Scan QR or regret' inserted into the visuals, Mr. Trump repeatedly urged viewers to send their Bitcoin without hesitation and get more money back as soon as they could. He also gave a speech praising America's progress with Bitcoin, digital money, and energy. While some of the YouTube Live videos had been suspended when checked later, many duplicate versions of the video were still live and running, with some recording thousands of viewers or followers. Mr. Trump's voice and style of speaking in the videos were highly believable, and at first glance it did not look as if his lips were being artificially synced to match the venture he was promoting. Crypto security experts have long decried the persistent trend of celebrity deepfakes being uploaded as YouTube Live videos in order to fool crypto investors. Blockchain analytics platform Elliptic also recently released its report observing that AI tools such as chatbots and deepfake software made it easier to launch crypto crimes and scams. Mr. Trump had positioned himself as a crypto-friendly president in the run-up to the 2024 presidential election, which helped boost his popularity with fintech entrepreneurs and more conservative crypto traders. He has also been linked to the World Liberty Financial project as well as a Trump meme coin, often confusing his followers and fans who are not always sure which Trump-related crypto ventures are legitimate.

iPhone 17 Pro Max leaked renders show what Apple's big logo shift may look like
Last week, reports emerged suggesting that Apple could change the position of the Apple logo on the new iPhone 17 Pro models, wherein the company might position the logo a little lower than where it is now. Now, tipster MajinBu Official on X has shared a few renders of how this may potentially shape up, especially when coupled with a transparent case that has MagSafe. iPhone 17 Pro models could reportedly get a new back design, along with a logo shift.(Majin Bu On X) iPhone 17 Pro Max Logo: What The Alleged Renders Reveal The renders shared by Majin Bu show the alleged iPhone 17 Pro models with a transparent-style MagSafe case. They do look quite odd because the Apple logo, instead of sitting in the centre of the MagSafe magnet ring, which looks symmetrical and in proportion (like it is now with the iPhone 16 Pro), is now slid lower and sits awkwardly with the magnets. However, this should be taken with a pinch of salt, and of course, if this does end up happening, it will only affect the transparent-style cases and any silicone or third-party cases that block the view of the phone's back. Has Apple Changed The Position Of The Logo Before? Yes, the Apple logo used to be situated higher up, in the top half of the phone. This was prior to the iPhone 11 series, but with the iPhone 11, Apple moved the logo down to the centre of the back. So, yes, the company has switched the logo position previously, and now that Apple is expected to debut a fresher design with the iPhone 17 series, this would not be out of the ordinary, as per reports. Having said that, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max may reportedly feature aluminium instead of titanium, along with a slightly different look and feel on the back, with the camera housing extended towards the right side of the phone, and thus is why Apple might also be looking to reposition the logo.
