Aston Martin Returns to Le Mans With a Car That Is Turning Heads
In returning Aston Martin to the top class of the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time since 2012, Ian James, the team principal, said it invoked mixed feelings.
'It's a little bit of trepidation, a little bit of angst, an immense amount of pride and being proud,' he said in an interview in May.
James runs the Heart of Racing team, or THOR, which will have two Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR-LMHs in the Hypercar class at Le Mans.
Aston Martin has won the GT class five times since 2014 with its Vantage. It has not taken the overall victory since Carroll Shelby and Roy Salvadori did it in the DBR1 in 1959.
James views this year as a developmental season.
'My goals this year are just to have continual improvement,' he said. 'As long as we continue to do that, and we've seen it in America in I.M.S.A. and W.E.C., we are inching closer and closer,' he said, referring to the International Motor Sports Association and the F.I.A. World Endurance Championship.
'I would say performance so far has exceeded my expectations,' he said. 'As long as we keep going in the same direction, then I'll be very happy at the end of the year as we move past the back of the grid, to tickling the middle of it, and I think that will happen.'

Great-grandson fights to honour Southampton football hero
A great-grandson is fighting to see a Saints legend recognised in football history. Ted Drake, the Southampton-born striker who became an Arsenal legend, has narrowly missed out on entry to the National Football Museum's Hall of Fame in Manchester. He will automatically be considered again during the next round of nominations in October. During his time at Arsenal, Drake set several records, including scoring seven goals in a single top-flight match on December 14, 1935. Advertisement He remains Arsenal's fastest player to reach 100 goals, achieving the milestone in just 108 games. He also holds the record for most goals in a single season for the club, with 44. After injury ended his playing career, Drake moved into management and led Chelsea to their first league title in 1955. He became the first person to win the English top flight as both a player and a manager. Liam has dedicated much of this year to preserving his great-grandfather's legacy. In February, he worked with Arsenal to install a memorial plaque at Highbury, where Drake's ashes have rested since 1995. He hopes that Drake, currently Arsenal's fifth-highest all-time goalscorer with 139 goals, will be recognised in the next round of Hall of Fame nominations.

M4 closures to cause headaches for drivers in Wales this week
There's disruption ahead for drivers travelling on the M4 from this weekend as resurfacing work are carried out. People who use the road in Cardiff will be affected by the disruption – which will continue into next mooth. The works will take place at M4 westbound from junction 30 Cardiff Gate to junction 32 Coryton. The road will be closed, with diversions in place, from 8pm until 6am. The works began on June 24 and will continue until July 15. Elsewhere, between junctions 37 and 38 near Pyle, major roadworks are to be carried out to ensure the safety and long-term resilience of the motorway. The works will take place for six months and began on Monday, June 9. The work involves refurbishment to five bridges on this stretch of the M4. It is being described as "essential to maintain safety and prevent deterioration of the road." The motorway is remaining open with two running lanes in both directions for the duration of the works. Closures are limited to overnight. Temporary speed limits are being implemented to ensure driver and worker safety. In England, there's going to be carriageway and lane closures for resurfacing work at M4 eastbound junction 13 to 12 from June 30 until July 1. The works will be carried out between 9pm and 6am. And there's going to be an exit slip road closure at M4 eastbound junction 10 from June 30 until July 1. The works will be carried out from 11pm until 6am. 'Perfect transition' - Lambert backs Lallana to 'become an excellent coach'
LEGEND Rickie Lambert has backed Adam Lallana to become "an excellent coach" after his permanent appointment to Southampton's coaching staff. Lallana, 37, has joined Will Still's backroom team as first-team coach following his playing retirement at the end of the 2024/25 season. Lambert, who dubbed his former England teammate Lallana "the best player I've played with", thinks the ex-midfielder is making the "perfect transition". Speaking on BBC Radio Solent, Lambert recalled a meeting dictated by Lallana, which saw Saints turn around their poor Premier League form. Asked what leadership skills stood out most in his time with Lallana, Lambert explained: 'The determination not to lose and the courage to speak out when needed. It went on for two hours, but it was the best thing that ever happened to us. 'We went out of that meeting with clarity, which we all needed, and then we started to pick up points.
