CAIRO – 24 June 2025: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed regret to the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and to the brotherly Qatari people for the damages caused by the attack that targeted Al-Udeid Air Base.
In a Tuesday phone call, Pezeshkian noted that the State of Qatar and its people were not the intended targets of this operation, and that the attack does not constitute a threat, according to Qatari news agency (QNA).
He affirmed that Qatar remains a neighboring, Muslim, and sisterly country and said that he hopes for bilateral relations to always be based on the principles of respect for national sovereignty and good neighborliness.
Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani reaffirmed Qatar's strong condemnation of the attack by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, deeming it a blatant violation of Qatar's sovereignty and airspace, as well as a breach of international law and the United Nations Charter.
Emir of Qatar also said that this violation is completely inconsistent with the principles of good neighborliness and the close relations between the two countries, especially that Qatar has always advocated for dialogue with Iran and has made significant diplomatic efforts in this regard.
The Emir stressed the urgent need to immediately halt military operations and to seriously return to the negotiation table and to dialogue in order to overcome this crisis and safeguard the region's security and its peoples' safety.
On Monday, Iranian Armed Forces announced that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeted Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar with a devastating and powerful missile attack as part of Operation 'Basharat al-Fatah' [the Herald of the Victory], in retaliation to the US attacks on three Iranian uranium enrichment facilities on Sunday.
In a statement, the Iranian IRGC said that its forces bombed the US Al Udeid base in Qatar, the largest strategic asset of the US military in the West Asia region.
According to The New York Times, Iran informed Qatar in advance of the attacks in order to minimize casualties
However, the Qatari Ministry of Defense announced that Qatari air defenses successfully intercepted a missile attack targeting Al-Udeid Air Base, noting that the incident did not result in any deaths or injuries.
Spokesman of Qatari Foreign Ministry Majed Al Ansary stated that Qatar strongly condemned the attack as considered it a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the State of Qatar, its airspace, international law, and the United Nations Charter.

Iran Reopens Part of Airspace to International Flights

Israa Farhan Iran has reopened a portion of its airspace to international flights, marking a cautious step toward normalization amid a fragile ceasefire with Israel. The decision, announced on Saturday, comes five days after the ceasefire took effect and follows weeks of heightened military tensions. According to Majid Ikhwan, spokesperson for Iran's Ministry of Transportation, the country has reopened its central and western air corridors exclusively for foreign airlines operating international routes. The announcement was made via the state-run IRNA news agency. Flight activity had already resumed gradually on Wednesday but was initially restricted to Iran's eastern regions. However, operations over key areas, including the capital Tehran, remain suspended. Both of Tehran's major airports continue to be closed, and no timeline has been given for the full restoration of air traffic across the country. Iran had shut down its airspace on June 13 after an Israeli military strike targeted sites within Iranian territory, escalating tensions in the region. The temporary closure had disrupted numerous international flight paths, prompting several global airlines to reroute their services to avoid Iranian airspace. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean

Iran extends access to airspace for overflights after ceasefire - Region

Iran has expanded access to its airspace for international overflights following a ceasefire with Israel, though flight restrictions remain in place across much of the country, an official said Saturday. "In addition to the eastern half of the country's airspace being available for domestic, international and overflight operations, the airspace over the central and western parts of the country has now also been opened only for international overflights," Majid Akhavan, spokesman for the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, said in a statement carried by the IRNA state news agency. Flights to and from airports in the north, south and west of the country, including Tehran's Mehrabad and Imam Khomeini international airports, remained suspended, according to Akhavan. "All fellow citizens are requested not to go to airports located in the northern, southern and western regions of the country," he said, urging travellers to follow updates through official sources only. The move comes after Iran reopened its eastern airspace on Wednesday, following a ceasefire that ended 12 days of fighting with Israel. Iran had closed its skies entirely on June 13 after Israel launched a wave of airstrikes, prompting Iranian missile retaliation. Airports now operating include Mashhad in eastern Iran -- which Israel claimed to have targeted during the conflict -- as well as Chabahar in the southeast. Flights in other regions remain suspended until further notice. Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:
