Arsenal facing transfer hijack from surprise Premier League rivals: report

Arsenal are by now no strangers to battling Premier League rivals for their top targets during this transfer window.

The Gunners have already been widely reported to be locked in battle with Manchester United over Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres, and similar is true regarding Benjamin Sesko.
But in pursuing a La Liga target, they now have an unexpected competitor from English shores.

Arsenal have had to begin considering replacements in the centre of defence after it was revealed by French outlet L'Equipe that Real Madrid are in talks to sign William Saliba – ranked at no.2 in FourFourTwo's list of the best centre-backs in the world right now.
The north London side have identified their target, but it now looks like they're going to have company in the race to seal the deal.

But a fresh report from the same outlet now claims that Bournemouth are also in the frame.
Due to the hierarchy of Premier League football, the Gunners may not often worry about the presence of the Cherries, but the south-coast club's wallet is bulging this summer, following their sale of Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid and deals progressing for Illya Zabarnyi and Milos Kerkez to PSG and Liverpool respectively.
Mosquera's contract is due to expire next summer, so the two English clubs have a strong negotiating position, but a bidding war could yet drive the price up.

In FourFourTwo's opinion, Arsenal have plenty to worry about in losing this transfer to Bournemouth.

While the Gunners boast a respected Spanish coach in Mikel Arteta, so too do the Cherries in Andoni Iraola, so they have no advantage there.
And while Saliba has been linked with moves away, that hasn't actually happened yet, whereas Bournemouth have lost Huijsen and appear to be on the cusp of losing Ilya Zabarnyi to Paris Saint-Germain, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano – so Mosquera's path to first-team minutes could be much clearer at the Vitality Stadium.
Mosquera is valued at €30m, according to Transfermarkt.

If they were to bring in Isak, then that would close off Liverpool as an option too. Awkward issue for Xabi Alonso If Rodrygo does stay, it leaves Alonso with a tricky issue to handle early on. Thus far Alonso has used two systems primarily, a 3-5-2 and a 4-3-3 in general terms. The former has no natural fit for Rodrygo, compared to Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappe and Gonzalo Garcia, while the latter would likely require Rodrygo to be a defensively active right winger, a task he has struggled to perform thus far. The Basque manager has made it clear that Rodrygo is not a central part of his plans, and he may have to repair relations with the Brazilian.

The Blues returned to the UEFA Champions League after a two-year drought after finishing fourth in the Premier League table, whilst they also ended a four-year trophy drought after beating Real Betis in the UEFA Conference League Final. And what's more, they have confirmed their status as the champions of the world after defeating Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the FIFA Club World Cup Final. Whilst they had previously found themselves under tight financial scrutiny, they look set to extricate themselves from this predicament due to the forthcoming sale of Noni Madueke to Arsenal. This, as well as other imminent departures, will give them the leeway to pursue new signings before being forced into any sales. Moreover, after earning £84.5 million in prize money from the tournament, Chelsea have even more firepower to splurge big and acquire their top targets. Chelsea must thin out the squad while also locating areas to improve All things considered, it looks set to be a case of thinning out the squad and prioritizing quality over quantity for Enzo Maresca as he approaches his second season at the helm. Since making his debut in February 2023, Hato has emerged as a vital cog for Ajax as well as an increasingly important member of the Netherlands, and he looks set to become the latest Ajax player to make the move to the Premier League. After becoming the third-youngest player to debut for Ajax in the Eredivisie, Hato was awarded the Abdelhak Nouri Trophy as the most talented player from Ajax's youth academy and quickly became one of the first names on the team sheet thanks to his elegance in possession as well as his confidence and fearlessness off the ball. At just 17 years of age, Hato played nearly every single minute of the 2023/24 season and even wore the captain's armband for Ajax and became one of their vice-captains. He continued his development in the 2024/25 season under Francesco Farioli, excelling in central defense whilst also providing cover at left back, and whilst he was unable to prevent Ajax from improbably bottling a chance to win the league title, he did enough to be named the Eredivisie Talent of the Year. Capable of breaking the lines with well-weighted passes and exploiting high presses with his elegant dribbling in tight spaces, Hato is a ball-playing defender in every sense of the word, and he's more than capable of adjusting to Maresca's style of play. It's these stellar abilities which have seen him draw interest from various Premier League sides like Liverpool and Arsenal, and it's why Chelsea must act quickly in order to secure his signing. Hato wouldn't just be a backup option at left back, but a player who could provide some much-needed depth at the centre back position. With French defenders Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Disasi struggling to convince, Chelsea need more guarantees to compete with their English core of Tosin Adarabioyo, Levi Colwill and Trevoh Chalobah, and despite his tender age, Hato is just that: someone who can offer reliably impressive performances. Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham undergoes shoulder injury and set to miss early part of season
Associated Press MADRID (AP) — Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham underwent shoulder surgery Wednesday and is expected to miss the start of the La Liga season. The club said in a brief statement that the England international needed surgery 'to address recurrent dislocation of his left shoulder.' The procedure was 'successful,' it added. 'Bellingham will now undergo a period of rehabilitation, prior to returning to training and starting his recovery," the club's statement said. Madrid did not say for how long Bellingham will be sidelined, but Spanish media reported he could be out two to three months.
