Cristhian Mosquera transfer update as Valencia star speaks out after Arsenal bid
Arsenal's opening bid for Cristhian Mosquera was rejected but the Gunners aren't giving up on the Valencia defender, who's entered the final year of his current deal Valencia captain Jose Gaya has issued an update on the future of team-mate Cristhian Mosquera after he was the subject of an undisclosed bid from Arsenal. Mosquera, 21, has emerged as a target for the Gunners, who want to strengthen their defensive options in the summer transfer window. Arsenal saw their opening offer rejected, with Valencia playing hardball over his future. That's despite the Spaniard only having 12 months left of his existing contract. The Gunners won't give up on Mosquera, who recently helped Spain reach the quarter-finals of the under-21 European Championship. Reports claim that Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Bayer Leverkusen, Atletico Madrid and RB Leipzig also rate the right-footed centre-back highly. Mosquera isn't the only in-demand Valencia youngster. There's also interest in Javi Guerra and Cesar Tarrega, but Gaya hopes that the trio will stay put. Speaking to Spanish radio station A Punt, the Valencia star explained: "I would be delighted if all three could stay because I think they can give a lot this new season and bring a lot of joy to the fans. "As of today, unless there's any breaking news, I think all three of them are still with us, and I hope it continues like this, and they continue to grow as players." Valencia's focus is on tying Mosquera down to a new deal, as they don't intend to sell him or his two team-mates this summer. A problem for the La Liga side, though, is that the 21-year-old has already agreed personal terms with Arsenal, who value his ability to play as both a right-back and centre-back. How much should Arsenal pay for Cristhian Mosquera? Let us know your valuation in the comments section. Earlier this month, Mosquera's agent, Sergio Barila, confirmed that his client was 'very happy' at Valencia, who've finally secured funding to complete a new stadium after years of setbacks. Barila also revealed that talks over a contract extension were ongoing. Since joining Valencia aged 12, big things have been expected of Mosquera. Academy coach Miguel-Angel Angulo hailed: "He is characterised by a physical condition and good technical qualities, powerful in the air, and mature for his age." Mosquera helped Spain win gold at Paris Olympic Games in 2024 before playing 41 times for Valencia last season. He played the full 90 minutes as his country lost to England under-21s in the last eight of the Euros. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Arsenal get swift response to bid to leave Mikel Arteta's plan in tatters
Arsenal are chasing a host of players as boss Mikel Arteta plots a dramatic rebuild of his squad but the Gunners have stumbled into trouble in their negotiations over one targe Arsenal have seen their opening bid for Valencia star Christhian Mosquera turned down by the Spanish side. The Gunners have identified Mosquera as a potential summer addition, with Mikel Arteta keen to add to his defensive ranks. It was thought that the centre-back would have been a relatively affordable signing, with Arsenal lodging an opening €19 million (£16.2m) bid to their Spanish colleagues. And Valencia instantly replied. According to Eldesmarque, the La Liga giants dismissed the Gunners' offer out of hand. They are determined to keep Mosquera at the club, with boss Carlos Corberan keen to build a new-look side around the 21-year-old. Mosquera's current deal at the Mestalla expires next summer but Valencia have an option to extend that by a year. Spanish chiefs are keen to up his release clause to around €35m (£29.9m), albeit his representatives want that to be lower at €25m (£21.3m). Fresh talks between Arsenal and Valencia are planned, with a bid of around €30m (£25.6m) potentially enough to convince the Spanish side to sell. Arteta's side have an alternative in the form of Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi but he is expected to fetch far more this summer amid interest from Liverpool. Any central defensive addition will have to compete with William Saliba, Gabriel, Ben White and Jakub Kiwior at the Emirates - albeit the latter is among the candidates to leave before the start of next season. Speaking last season, Arteta sent a message to Arsenal chiefs that his squad needed work if the Gunners were to reduce the gap to Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table. He said: 'Obviously we need players because the squad is really short, and on top of that we are losing four or five players that are going to end contracts, and their loans are finished. 'So, we need to be sharp. Again, very disciplined in what we want to do, and make sure that we are strong in the next season.' Arsenal's business is unlikely to stop at centre-back. They are on the verge of sealing deals for Martin Zubimendi and Kepa Arrizabalaga from Real Sociedad and Chelsea respectively. They are also closing in on the signing of Brentford midfielder and captain Christian Norgaard as a replacement for Thomas Partey. A winger and a striker also remain on Arsenal's shortlist. Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres are the outstanding candidates for a new forward, albeit talks over both appear to have ground to a halt over recent weeks. Cristhian Mosquera could reject Arsenal and stay at Valencia on one condition
Cristhian Mosquera will consider rejecting interest from Arsenal to stay at Valencia if he is offered the right contract, according to reports in Spain. The Gunners have identified the Spain Under-21 international as their top defensive target, eager to bring him in to provide cover and competition for the first-choice pairing of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes. Arsenal launched an opening offer of €19million this week which was swiftly rejected by Valencia. Mosquera, who turned 21 today, has entered the final 12 months of his contract at the Mestalla with Los Che eager to tie him down to a long-term deal. Valencia are still to present the defender with a formal offer, however. Cadena Ser report Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Mosquera's representatives were recently invited to the club's offices where they were 'informed of the club's intentions' without any deal being presented. A formal contract offer has been postponed until the arrival of Valencia's new chief executive Ron Gourlay, who will officially begin his duties next week. Mosquera has grown into a vital member of Carlos Corberan's first-team and while Arsenal are expected to return with a second bid, reports elsewhere suggest he will consider remaining in Spain. Las Provincias claims Mosquera may choose to stay at the club if he is offered a new deal that is in line with his prominent role in the team. Mosquera's agent Sergio Barila sat down with Valencia officials earlier this month, reportedly the first time the two parties had met 'in months' to discuss a new deal. In comments made before Arsenal's interest in his client came to light, Barila said: 'We came to speak with the club and in a few days we will speak again and both parties will analyse the situation. Valencia respond to Arsenal's opening transfer bid for Cristhian Mosquera
Valencia have issued an emphatic response to Arsenal's opening bid for Cristhian Mosquera. Despite their apparent strength in depth, Mikel Arteta is keen to sign a new centre-half this summer. Arsenal failed in their attempts to recruit Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth with the Spain international having been determined to join Real Madrid. England international Marc Guehi is also on Arsenal's radar, while Ajax's Jorrel Hato has been of long-term interest. Arteta, however, appears to have settled on Mosquera as his No.1 target but the Gunners will have to raise their initial offer of €19 million after it was dismissed out of hand by Valencia, according to Eldesmarque. The Spanish club are determined to retain the services of the 21-year-old who they view as a player they want to build a new-look team around. RB Leipzig, AC Milan and Aston Villa have also been linked with a move for the Spain Under-21 international but Valencia are keen to negotiate a new contract. Mosquera's current deal expires next summer, but Valencia do retain the option to extend for a further 12 months. More Trending Valencia are keen to insert a release clause in any new contract and that currently represents a major sticking point for Mosquera and his representatives. Los Che want the release clause to be set at around €35m but the player's agent is insisting on a figure no higher than €25m, although there could be room for flexibility should Valencia qualify for Europe. Another round of talks are set for July with chief executive Ron Gourlay, formerly of Chelsea, but if a resolution isn't met then Arsenal may well be succesful were they to table a bid in the region of €30m. Who is Cristhian Mosquera? Why Arsenal FC fans should be excited 'as transfer talks begin'

He made his top-flight bow just three days later against Sevilla in a 1-1 draw, becoming the fourth-youngest player to feature for Valencia in La Liga.
